Can confirm. Steve is a gentleman. Never got to see him race a world cup, family kids etc . Finally got to a world cup ( val di sol ) in my 50's. The pits was my Comicon , all the young stars milling around doing their jobs. Chatted to a few of them then i wandered by the Santa Cruise pits and saw Steve. I literally couldn't speak. ( Highly unusual for me) He came over and we chatted . He was absolutely sound. My partner slagged me for a week for being such a fan boy 😂
Never met Steve, but use his products and rate them, also didn't realise the link between him and Royal Racing, been using their clothing for a few years now and its really good, long lasting and performs really well.
It’s good to see a Sheffield lad do good and be respected by so many. Not sure if I ever met SP but I grew up around the same time in the same area. Will Longdon was another good rider from Sheffield who was mentioned in the interview and was fast on a bmx. Who remembers the Bolehill Bandits in the 80’s and building the first track?
I love these videos, they really give you a better idea of who these great riders are and their mindsets. Steve really is one of those guys who you can tell is just down to earth, loves his riding, the industry and his fellow riders. Great interview Neil.
When Steve was racing I used to look at old VHS tapes of worldcups from the early 90's and thinking this footage look so old. Steve's footage aged pretty well. Look like it was yesterday to me. Or maybe we're just that old now 😂
ill always make time in the day for Peaty content. Love the legends biography format. Would love to see some stories from some of the old timers we dont hear from much....nathan rennie, Matti Lehikoinen, Kovarik, heck....even Shaun palmer.
Feel so lucky to have got into MTB in a big way in the early 2000’s. Massive Peaty fan, Santa Cruz for life. Great memories from Fort William world cups, still watch the Collective all these years later 🏴
I remember seeing Steve at a NEMBA race when he was on the Mbuk GT team, he's a couple of years older than me and I was in juniors, the guy's an absolute mountain even seeing him from afar.
Peaty products are great I use them all the time foaming cassette and chain cleaner large brake cleaner chain oil all the products are my go to I’ve got a good collection of those beer mats now thanks cheers.
Best part of racing was always hanging out afterwards and practice days having a blast. I lived for it and it made me a stronger person on a mental level to be out there pushing myself and riding with the best riders on the east coast like Aaron Chase and Lars Tribus. Plattekill in the 90s was the beginning of the kind of racing we have now. It used to be run down a fire road
Peaty was my idol growing up remember watching all those sprungs with him and Palmer and dreaming of being pro one day but alas I am too slow 😂 also royal were a great brand loved their early kit actually found a picture of Neil when he raced for royal racing helping me out when I was in juvenile get my bike out the dreaded tractor-trailer skips they used to use! That era was and always will be the best times of MTB for me all about the fun and party but still shredding it!
Waiting on my order of the Peaty's Mk2 tubeless valve and Peaty's sealant. Hope to level up the performance of my cushcore tubeless valve - that keeps losing air on the back wheel & dried out MucOff sealant that needs a fresh top up!!
I bought a bike from Stiff Cycles years ago. A Swobo , A fully rigid single speed coaster brake only for a laugh. Turns out Peaty Warner Hamming had been having skid compositions on it 😂one bike I wished I still had
Got his valves fitted and just tried some of his chain lube and tbh it’s the best I’ve used so far. That sounds so wrong lol. But his products are too notch tbh!!!
There is no way in 1997 that Gary Ellis who was the top GT BMX racer was hanging out with Steve Peat and if I'm wrong I will pay any amount of money for those stories.
What is your favourite Peatys product? Let us know in the comments!
That late 90s era was so special for mountainbiking.

You could do another video like this on Rob Warner.

Rob , Steve and the Athertons were part of a great era for MTB racing and Steve has always come across as being a nice fella.
Pure legend, and such a smart and nice guy. Total respect!

Truly one of a kind and will never have someone like him again in this industry. Thanks peaty for being so sick
My dad built him that Yamaha at Speed McQueen in Doncaster
Looks great! What model is it?
Sr 500
Great episode, would love more of these!
Good to see Steve looking chilled!

What a legend 🤌👌
A True mtb LEGEND ....
Neil great interview mate, really interesting story.
Thanks GMBN for keeping it real and not turning this into a total puff piece for Peaty's 🎉

Simply a legend

LEGEND of the sport, LEGENDARY human being! 🤘❤️🌈🕊️🌍
Steve replied to my comment once on FB and I thought it was awesome
The chainspotting days awesome
That yamaha scrambler is drop dead 🤤

That kid in the Fox Tshirt @ 0:25 looks a bit suss.
The whole world celebrated when Peaty got his rainbow stripes in 2009!

He rode bikes and was never in a band so the term rockstar is completely misleading…..maybe DH legend would be more accurate?
Imagine how good he could have been if he hadn't been pathetically obsessed with beer.
@@teamdoa yep,not knocking him really, just given up beer for the summer at least,to make the most of riding,so feeling a little self righteous.
