    Hey Katerina, really enjoyed your video. Just a little comment. The words Quantitative and Quantum have slightly different meanings and etymology. The adjective quantitative describes: relating to, measuring, or measuring by the quantity of something rather than its quality. The adjective quantum, on the other hand, describes a discrete quantity. The word quantum was used to describe quantum physics because the experiments (Max Planck's - blackbody radiation) that founded this branch of physics showed that electromagnetic energy comes in packets (quanta) and is not continuous by nature.

    Hi Katarina, im currently doing ebe at the uva and im thinking of chosing quantative finance as my msters aswell. Theres only one thing i havent really been able to find out which is what the "normal" junior financial data analyst yearly salary in the netherlands? I suppose around 40/50k right?
    btw thank you for the video its super informative!

      Hi! Thank you for reaching out! Yes, that’s what you can expect. If you are aiming to work at a larger corporation you will likely be offered an external contract for a year at 40k per year taxed at 9% income tax. Once the probation is over the company offers an internal contract with a higher salary and more benefits - more holiday hours, extra education budget, etc. The amount above 40k is taxed at 37%

    Hi Katerina! I'm thinking to persue master in Quantitative Finance at my 40+ after 20 years experience in corporate treasury and banking, I also hold MBA, now I would like to dive in numbers, boost my calc skills and continue career in consulting and analitics. What cons of this idea would you point at?

    Really informative video! thank you for the content. I'm currently preparing by working through a textbook and find myself getting stuck on some exercises. During your studies were there any sites or forum communities that you used when you got stuck on hw problems?

      Hi, I think during my studies I mostly referred to communities at my university and to my course mates if we got stuck on the problems. But I know on YT there is a very good channel that focuses on quant finance problems - QuantPy. He also has a community on Patreon

    i've heard that 70% of the quant jobs are in the US, and the rest 30% are in only big financial centres of the world, is it true.
    how would you compare quant finance jobs to things like CS, Software engineering, mechanical/ electrical engineering jobs, who do you think earn more money and which is the better career?

    • @katerinainfinance
      @katerinainfinance  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      'A quantitative analyst or “quant” is a specialist who applies mathematical and statistical methods to financial and risk management problems.' Hence, every financial institution hires quantitative analysts for risk management, risk model, model validation, etc. There are definitely enough 'quant' jobs in Europe, and I am not familiar with the US market.
      In European institutions, this role is different from software engineering, as the coding skills are needed for building and validating the models, not really a software. Typically, people with a CS or Physics background can reclassify to a quantitative analyst.
      I guess software engineering might earn more because there are many more opportunities for promotion or switching domain, whereas quantitative finance is really for financial institutions. But again, I don't know the US market that well, analysts in Asset Management also earn above 100k in the US and have a lot of promotion opportunities.
      I hope that answers your question :)

      @katerinainfinance  ปีที่แล้ว

      yes, but you should learn basic Python + pandas library. Or focus on programming for statistics (like R or Stata)

      @@katerinainfinance also, seems kind of superficial. A stochastic calculus course should be separated from the numerical analysis course, as if bunched together you won’t understand most of the maths behind what is going on, and it won’t be mathematically rigorous enough
