Squirrels are fast when they are in trees...not that much fast on grounds...they get killed mainly when they keep eating some thing...they forget the dangers approaching like all animals...
That squirrel is chunky, but not as chunky as some of the military squirrels I have seen in Wisconsin. The little buggers actively raid the garbage dumpsters and will "liberate" uneaten tornado rolls, fruit, and other expired snacks. Yes, they will stash it amongst military equipment. It is rather funny watching the junior enlisted getting scolded for "leaving food in odd places" when it was the squirrels who were the guilty culprits.
Amazing how she catches the scent and is like "yup it's near by it's near by ... THERE it is!" ... boom catches squirrely in a heartbeat! Fox keepin squirrely population in check. I've noticed less squirrels near me and I'm not right next to the road but near the woods. Now I know why :)
Honestly finding the squirrel scent is very easy, if you've ever fed seeds to birds and had squirrel hogging your birdfeeder, I cleaned my birdfeeder regularly and meticulously and could easily tell the scent of squirrels. it is not unpleasant, it has a musky gamy smell to it while the scent of birds (coming from the droppings) is very acrid, caustic and unpleasant. After you've learned the squirrel smell, you can walk in the woods and tell if there are squirrel arounds especially in late summer you will recognize it. It's a common misjudgement to assume animals have supersmells and that we don't. We are not that far behind. No, you're giving credit in the wrong area to the fox. It's his amazing agility and chase that got him the squirrel. I can creep on squirrel almost as good but chasing it like that that's where that fox shined. Not even the best breed of dog could do this and cats while better than dogs are not a match to the squirrel. But that fox was.

Awesome music. It adds an atmosphere of a mysterious forest, especially at 0:40 when the fox can be seen through the branches while moving deeper into the forest. Anyone know the source? Shazam could not recognize it.
The music made the fox sound like a serial killer or a castlevania boss
RIGHT

That's one less inattentive, secure squirrel in the world. The squirrel species has gained +1 to the paranoid gene.
