    I think Mewtwo hid in Cerulean Cave because it's the safest place in Kanto to hide. It's a deep cave that requires multiple HMs to fully explore, and it's filled with the strongest wild Pokemon in the region, which therefore provides an extra layer of protection, as it deters weak Pokemon trainers from attempting to explore deeper into the cave. The odds of anyone finding it there or even being able to reach it are slim, and so it feels safe there.

    Very solid video, good job. But there are a few problems with this theory:
    1. Mewtwo had to have been created years before Red’s journey. We know this because Mr. Fuji (Dr. Fuji at the time) is strongly implied (if not straight-up confirmed) to be the creator of Mewtwo (or at least the one who headed the project). And then, when he realized how far he went in throwing away his own morales once he found out what a savage creature Mewtwo was, he was filled with guilt and shame, which is why he retired from research and lived out the rest of his days caring for orphaned and abandoned Pokémon to atone for his actions. Based on dialogue from the citizens of Lavender Town, Mr. Fuji has been doing this for years before Red came along.
    2. The DNA of Mew that was used to create Mewtwo did not come from Mt. Moon; it came from Faraway Island. If you visit the location in Emerald, there is an aged signpost that is strongly implied to have been written by Dr. Fuji (expressing his hope that only a kindhearted person with good intentions may ever set foot on the island, further showcasing his regret over his actions). Since Faraway Island is the only known location in canon where a wild Mew could be encountered, and we know that Fuji visited the island at some point, it stands to reason that the DNA of Mew (which came from the Mew that resides there) was obtained by Dr. Fuji on Faraway Island. I’m not saying Team Rocket’s activities in Mt. Moon had absolutely nothing to do with their hunt for Mewtwo (perhaps they wanted the fossils to test the regenerative machine on Cinnabar in case they ever get their hands on Mew’s DNA) but it’s also perfectly possible that it was just a scheme to make money (perhaps to aid in their takeover of Silph Co.).

    Interesting theory, but it seems more likely that Mew was found on Faraway Island rather than in Cerulean Cave, at least when we look at the journals in Pkmn Mansion. Interesting piece about it on Bulbapedia
    Either way, all descriptions we have so far are that Mew was discovered in a jungle, not a cave

    04:32, 05:50 - So, on the one hand - You're asking us to not believe the movie regarding Mewtwo destroying the mansion, though it doesn't contradict any information in the games. And on the other hand - You're asking us to indeed believe the movie regarding Team Rocket having only a Mew fossil instead of a live Mew, though it does contradict information in the games: the diary saying "Mew gave birth".

    • @sheer_1
      @sheer_1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with a lot of what you said but giving birth doesn't have to be meant literally. It can be meant figuratively/metaphorically. They probably meant Mew's genes created something different.

    you might have cracked it! i never realised how unclear the relation between each Team Rocket encounter in Kanto was, but it looks like you've already put it all together
    given the theory, i personally think Giovanni probably takes a little longer than you propose, as they're still looking for Fossils as you arrive in Mt. Moon which i think means they haven't found Mew's DNA yet - also the Dig TM has only just been stolen as you arrive in Cerulean City, so i reckon before returning it the Rocket Grunt teaches it to a Pokémon so that they can finally find it
    after that, Giovanni has all the time between your 2nd and 7th Gym Badges to get his plans into motion as you said pretty much

Mewtwo probably has memories of that cave maybe the mew of the past lived only in caves that would also explain why in X&Y another mewtwo is found in a cave again probably staying in caves because that's all it remembers as home

      I disagree to some level ..... Mewtwo was already created a long time ago. In LGFR wasn't the mansion in ruins? Old and beat up?. If they were dinging in mt. Moon they were probably still trying to find another new fossil to creat a new mew or create another "GMO monster" using the helix and dome fossils.

  • @mitchc.2660
    @mitchc.2660 2 ปีที่แล้ว +58

    Except the diary excerpts throughout the Pokemon Mansion clearly say that Mewtwo was born to Mew in the past (in Let's Go's English version, they omit the birthing part). So, I have to immediately disagree with this theory.
    Not to mention that the other Rocket encounters are easily explained by them just trying to swell ranks or get items/pokemon to sell. They are a mafia-esque team. They aren't really going for world domination; they want money, wealth, and power that get them that.
    It's also heavily implied in many games that Mr. Fuji is the one who authored the journal entried about Mewtwo in the Mansion.
    This theory isn't very strong, even after only scratching the surface.

      Yeah the English localzation team does a poor job at translation. Mewtwo was originally Baby mew in game before they perform Cruel experiments upon it.. you know would be a nice headcanon? it wasn't Mewtwo that caused the destruction and Rampage. It is Acually Mewtwo's Mother, Mew....it Took on Mewtwo appearance and Killed everyone in the lab. Another headcanon that Mew brought Mewtwo to the Cerulean cave and that Mew is searching for a Pokemon trainer pure of heart to entrust her Child to.
      Can You imagine the potential Horor and Karmic factor of legendary Pokemon are more then will retaliate when Humans Cross certain Moral lines..
      How Mew was able to locate Mewtwo?. Here's another headcanon.. every time baby mew/Mewtwo suffer it subconsciously send out a a psychic distress signal that akin to baby calling out for it parent to help.. it's possible that Mew do leave Offspring on their own.. it is confirmed that Mew species can't transform into any Pokemon and is also rumored that the dittos failed Mew clones.. both are pink and both shiny forms are blue.. it doesn't help that ditto also appear around the laboratory in the are also connected to the Pokemon go research about mew.

    That's actually a pretty cool perspective on Gen 1! And it actually lines up pretty decently with the Pokemon Adventures Manga take on the Mewtwo creation story and Team Rocket. You can actually see Team Rocket working on the creation process throughout Red's adventure and it's not until the end of the Kanto saga that Mewtwo gets loose and Red captures it.

    It's also possible this is a SECOND Mewtwo.
    Many years ago, the first Mewtwo is made in the lab and destroys it. This mewtwo escapes and goes elsewhere in the world to get far away from the creators it hates (perhaps it's the one in Kalos?).
    In present day, Giovanni seeks out another fossil in Mt Moon, where the first one was found (The first one was probably destroyed by Mewtwo), and succeeds. Whether or not he was involved in the first attempt I'm not sure, but this time he prepares far better by attempting to get a Master ball and ghost types.
    I think this is more likely simply due to the fact that I feel like it'd take far more time to successfully get to the point where cloning it would be possible, unless this is attempt #2 and the first attempt took far longer.
    It's also possible that the first attempt actually failed, possibly causing the creation of ditto, and wasn't attempted again until modern day. The destruction or abandonment of the lab could have been from the failure exploding and damaging the entire building, or just damaging the machinery and forcing them to go elsewhere.

    This reminds me of a theory I had when I first played Gold and Silver as a young man, who had seen Pokemon the First movie and then who played Generation 2 with some expectations that never came up, like the return of Mewtwo.
    When I was young, I was not aware of how unbalanced the Psychic type was, as I just thought they were powerful, particularly because of Mewtwo. And so when the Dark Type was created in Gen 2, I originally thought that we would find out that Team Rockett was responsible for this new type existing in the first place. And similarly, the type chart changing for Ghosts that made it mirror the Dark type offensively, It was my head cannon that Team Rockett's interests with the Ghosts in the Original Game was to create a new Pokemon that would be strong against Mewtwo, so that they could either recapture it, or simply have protection against potential Mewtwo revenge. I also thought this a big reason why Gold and Silver had that strong Kanto connection after you became the Johto Champion...at that level now you are ready to go and find out the secret about Team Rockett and the Dark Type. I even wondered for some time, at least until I got the official guide for Gold and Silver, if there was A Dark Mewtwo related pokemon in the game...something that was meant to be the Gold and Silver equivalent to Mewtwo..but at last that was not to be realized.

      ok so I watched your "125 hidden secrets in pokemon legends arceus" video and I thought about it a lot and I'm pretty sure that you can't be your own ancestor because if we get sent back in time and our ancestor doesn't exist, then we wont exist in the present time. Even if we accept the fact that the ancestor is gone, we cant be our own ancestor because WE wouldn't exist in the present (because a child with different genes will be born instead). It would only make sense if for some reason, our ancestor is not in jubilife village when we arrive there.

    Just a theory I just came up rn, but maybe the reason why they try getting the fossils is the same reason as why they try getting the silph scope: trying to obtain pokemon super effective against mewtwo. Kabutops and Omastar are maybe originally bug type, and maybe they are the strongest bugs around their time.
    Then again, there’s possible contradictions here like how maybe Kabutops and Omastar aren’t able to be ressurected to their original typings and team rocket already know that (they probably still tried given team rocket are financially powerful), and it just happens that there are fossils of other mons when theyre finding mew’s. The Cinnabar Mansion being long abandoned for the labs, but recently being used as a hidden research facility is actually backed up by Blane too. We know he’s a scientist with a love for trivia and pyrotechnics, but given his profession, proximity to the labs and mansion it’s safe to assume he helped with the creation of Mewtwo (and is directly stated/shown as fact in the Adventures manga, though take that as you will since it’s different canons). The most crucial bit of evidence towards his involvement and Mewtwo’s creation being more recent is that his gym’s key is down there, and even if he just threw it down there as part of his gym challenge, he’d still either need to know the layout of the mansion or would inevitably come across Mewtwo’s files and the machines it was created with while looking for a spot (which I think he’d make a big deal about to the public if he wasn’t initially aware of it).

    This video was surprisingly meaningful to me, in a nastalgic way.
    Pokemon Sword was the first Pokemon game I'd played since Gold. It was a lovely experience playing a pretty game and collecting a full dex with community hell while I rocked my new born who was born when the game was released. (Clearly I didn't mind the dex cut, as it made it more accessible, so I got a living dex.)
    The only complaint I had was that so much happened behind the scenes. You didn't get to join Leon on so many battles, you just had to imagine it. It didn't make the story worse, per se, but I first thought it felt different than the Pokemon I knew, which had you right in the heart of the action.
    But this video made me realize that is consistent with Pokemon from the beginning. From the get go you're a young trainer doing gyms, with some side encounters to the big time events of finding the mew fossil, creating Mewtwo, and Mewtwo escaping.
    It's not till later in the story that you suddenly join up with the big story, but not even until post game that you meet the legendary, the big part of the action you missed. You are a side story until you aren't, which makes Sword/Shield consistent with Pokemon from the get go.
    Strangely, that makes me appreciate my Sword experience a bit more.

Honestly, they could have added it as like an extended Kanto National Dex and expansion dlc (maybe x100) for free so they could see how the additions played out as a test for the hardware to then go to Sw/Sh with it's DLC being improved on from there

    My theory on dig is that they stole it so when they recaptured mewtwo after a hard battle, then they could instantly get out without having to fight back through the cave with a seriously injured team.
    The grunts on the bridge. Stopping people from crossing while keeping the cave secret so others don't get to it first. But also that doesn't explain why the guard is in front of the cave blocking entry. Is he on Giovanni's payroll? And happened to stop getting payments once you became champion a few days after beating his boss, and shutting down team rocket??

    The Pokemon Adventures Manga gets very deep into this, some of which was retroactively made cannon in future games, the best example I can think of is Gen 2's lore of Silver (your rival in GS) being Giovanni's son being added into Game lore via HGSS because of it''s popularity. Also Kris, just wears Kotone (Lyra's) Overals witch is the biggest, funniest middle finger Pokemon Offical cannon has ever thrown to date.

    I think what we could say is basically confirmed is that Mr. Fuji is actually Dr. Fuji, and he authored the journals, and he clearly created Mewtwo from the DNA of mew. He’s in a state of grieving for the work that he’s done. Clearly team rocket is trying to get him to help Giovanni re-capture Mewtwo. And I totally agree, Tim rocket is out in the mountain area looking for fossils and that’s clearly where they got the fossil from Mewtwo and that’s why Meeteo returns to the cerulean cave. It’s also very sketchy how the lab to bring back fossils to life is on Cinnabar island right next to the abandoned mansion. I’m pretty sure the scientists there worked with Dr. Fuji to help you to, and they went to the mansion so that way they could have a secretive place to conduct their experiments. That’s why they installed all of those locks that you have to activate to get through the mansion.

    So do we start looking through the games then, starting with main legends and mysterious characters?
    Hmm....thinking about how in Emerald Kyogre and Groudon are sealed away in places they reside in (volcano and deep-sea cave), the fact that they are in stasis to the point of losing color, and the markings across their bodies that glow in response to the orbs, is it possible that these two are something of automatons similar to Regigigas. In that regard, Kyogre would have then been responsible for the creation Manaphy ("Prince of the Sea" as Kyogre is King) and Groudon responsible for Heatran (something that resides within the magma of volcanoes).

    A lot of what you said makes a lot of sense. I think they were looking for Mew fossils specifically for the purpose of resurrecting and genetically modifying one, much like the way Genesect is said to be a modified ancient fossil pokemon.
    Is it possible they could have been using the silph scope trying to find Mew ghosts, hoping that wherever Mew ghosts are, Mew fossils will be? Ghosts are supereffective against Psychic types but a lot of Kanto ghosts are also Poison type which kind of nullifies the advantage.
    Regardless, I think Mewtwo went to the Cerulean Cave because it wanted to protect the rest of the Mew fossils that were there from having the same fate. Giovanni himself uses Rhyhorn/Rhydon, two pokemon found in Cerulean Cave...
    Either way, awesome theory as always!!

    I sort of remember the classic GBC games seemed to point more towards Team Rocket as a crime syndicate that's trying to make money where ever they can, and not necessarily aiming for taking over the world. Like the Gambling Corner for example. I think Giovanni pursuing the idea of creating a powerful Pokemon like Mewtwo would more likely be a way to keep himself protected from the authorities or other criminals outside his group. The cartoon takes some creative liberties with what information the games provide, so I can't really rely on them too much for context.
    I'm fairly certain the Pokemon Mansion was abandoned after the creation of Mewtwo, and not prior. The problem I have with the idea of the Mansion being abandoned prior to Mewtwo's creation is that Cinnibar Island is a very small island. Both the Mansion, Lab and Gym are in close proximity. I'd find it difficult to believe nobody would have left the Mansion alone for that long unless something major happened. Not to mention the Burglar Trainers that show up in the Mansion scavenging for loot. Had the Mansion been in disrepair before Mewtwo was created, I'd image the place would've had a lot more stuff salvaged.
    Regarding Silph Co, we know he went there to get the Master Ball, but I think he just discovered the Silph Scope by accident. If folks in Lavender Town were having ghost problems, having a device that hasn't been mass produced that could identify ghosts could be sold at quite a high price I'd imagine.
    As for the interest in digging up fossils, Giovanni is the Ground-Type Gym Leader. Chances are he probably knows how valuable Pokemon Fossils are and the means to profit off of them. Especially since rare Pokemon can be created from Fossils.
    Well, that's my take on the whole thing.

  • @exiaR2x78

    I always took the Mewtwos creation happening before the start of the game and the mansion being abandoned after mewtwos creation. With Mr Fuji being a part in Mewtwos creation. But I guess it would also depend how long the story takes place, is Reds journey over a few years ect.

  • @TomAmit42
    @TomAmit42 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    04:06, 06:27 - I like to think that the date Red starts his journey is Febuarry 27th of whatever year that is, cuz that's the date the games were released. But that would mean that Mewtwo was created 3 weaks before Red starts his journey, as opposed to your suggestion that Mewtwo is created after Red starts his journey.

    I remember back in Pokemon Red there were a couple of diary entries lying around that told about the creation of Mewtwo. They started with them finding and capturing Mew, I can't remember anymore where they found Mew in the games but definitely not Kanto, Mew giving birth to a Pokemon they named Mewtwo and it ended with the mention that Mewtwo is getting too strong and uncontrollable. So Mewtwo actually was born by a living Mew, not coming from a fossil. Also, the end sounded a lot like Mewtwo caused a lot of destruction in the mansion, maybe didn't completely destroy it but at least enough that they had to abandon it - and I was already thinking that Mewtwo was the one who destroyed the mansion ten years before I actually watched the movie.

    A cool theory that could be looked into would be how the franchise ties into each other. For instance in every game, the goal is to become the champion, which happens. But after that you never hear of anything else, like no people in Kanto are talking about the new champion in Hoenn. Or how other important events happen around the world. How Eternatus came back potentially bringing the Darkest Day. While it effects Galar how come it doesn't draw attention in other parts.
    I mean yes it could be theorized and proven that each game is its own universe. Or that Pokemon can't have a game similar to what the anime is doing where you go around to every single region and becoming the new champion there. Meeting familiar trainers and leaders and creating a true one of a kind experience.
    As a dream future game it would be where you start in the new region and then travel to other regions for DLC as x dollars. It accomplishes national dex coverage and a platform for new games to be added to.

  • @silversonic1
    @silversonic1 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Fossils- Rare Pokemon. Money. Also if there was fossilized Mew DNA, maybe hopes of better understanding fossilization and resurrection better to recreate Mewtwo.
    Nugget Bridge- Recruitment drive. Need strong trainers.
    Dig TM- Retreat in case of being overpowered. Also Ground moves can be useful inside.
    The Pokemon Mansion- Secret lab for off the books research. The indident still should be recent, as there are theives actively pilfering the building and it hasn't been torn down.
    Cerulean Cave- Crystals are part of the cave's modern depiction. Crystals are linked with psychic abilities in many media forms. Also with the other strong Pokemon in the cave, it has plenty of help staying hidden.
    Besides, we know about South America being canon until Let's Go.

    I've always been really curious about the Mewtwo in Pokemon XY - don't know how much data there is about it considering XY is probably in a different universe from all the Kanto games so it may just be the main Mewtwo of the XY universe I guess but I have a mini theory that it may have been created by Team Plasma while working on Genesect - there's like a weird thing where the Gen 5 games have a mystery gift of a Deoxys with the OT "Plasma" and Ghestisis found all the creation trio orbs showing them experimenting with all types of legendaries so I think it's possible

    Confirmed then that the person blocking Cerulean Cave is not some representative from the Pokemon League but in fact an agent of Team Rocket, deterring would-be meddling trainers from interfering with the site of the somewhat recently discovered Mew fossil. Of course they're gone after you beat the Elite Four...Mewtwo just barreled through and yeeted the poor fool into the sea.

But who where the people that are buried there and why is there only 11 grave sites. Did the people suffer an attack? Did they have further burial sights? Where are the rest of the people that obviously lived in the area there had to more than only 11.

    I would posit that the Cinnabar Mansion was destroyed maybe a year (plausibly less, but not too close) before, in the creation of Mewtwo. They had created Mewtwo, who then escaped. Thus Mr. Fuji left the endeavor, and Team Rocket continued their plan to clone the most-powerful Pokemon. Maybe find more fossils of Mew.

    I'd always assumed Rocket wanted dig to find fossils looking for the Mew fossil to clone Mew. I also assumed the Silph Scope was not needed by Rocket but just a tool like the flute needed to get to and 'save' Mr Fuji who was held hostage. Then Mewtwo was drawn to that cave because that's where they found the Mew fossil.
