Exceptionally useful info! I've been struggling with digging up tech specs and comparing nikon binoculars for a while. Probably having the same frustration you had when you decided to make this video. Thanks for helping out a like-minded fellow!
I'm surprised you didn't show weight comparison. Weight is important. I own the Nikon Prostaff P7 10x30 as well as the Zeiss SFL 10x30. If there is an image quality difference, I can't tell. Both are excellent. I paid $160 for the P7 and $1,350 for the SFL. I also own the Nikon Monarch M7 8x42. I highly recommend both of these Nikon binoculars.
What an excellent explanation, thanks for this! Really helps in that buying decision. We now have the Prostaff P7 and very impressed with the clarity and usability.
Thought this would have an agenda as you had affiliate links but this was a high quality video and I appreciate the detail and suggestions with a reasonable outlook.
Nikon binoculars offer great value for your money. One important factor not given in exact numbers is the light transmission. It needs expensive kinds of special glass and an equally good (and expensive) coating that prevents reflection but lets light through. These are factors that have been improved in the last decades, but are nearly impossible to improve further. Therefore your binocular can last a lifetime. Within a range of a manufacturer more expensive is really better. Buy the most expensive you can afford! Otherwise you certainly will want to buy a better one in a few years. You will see more and better with an expensive 8x42 than with a cheap 10x50.
Good video. I actually learnt quite a bit. Years ago, in the 35mm film era, I hankered after a pair of lowish power Binoculars for star gazing and for general use. As I had a Nikon FM and lenses, I wanted Nikon Binoculars too. Looking at the prices (UK) then, I reluctantly bought an East German Pair--7 by 50mm Carl Zeiss Jena at a discount back then. They are very good and solid and come in a leather case. I still wonder what the Nikon 8 by 42mm or 8 by 50 mm ones would have been like though. Thank You.
Thanks for watching! Nice - East German 7x50 CZJs, I imagine they were rugged and reliable. In general I notice binos go on sale very often - definitely makes sense to wait for a discount.
I am confused .. cause i am between p7 8x42 vs 10x42... i am not wearing glasses and i want a nice all around binoculars for hiking and traveling watching some animals etc... What would u recommend?? Thanks in advance
@@lensvana Given almost the same price, which would you choose? Nikon prostaff p7(8×42) or Celestron 71332 natur dx 8×42? I would be very grateful for your answer. Thank you.
@@lensvana going to buy the Carson’s vx 8x42 and will compare it to it . And whatever I don’t like I’ll return back . Sucks cause no store in CA in my area has Nikon on display.

Thanks for the kind words - glad it was helpful! The P7 is probably the one I'd buy if I had to replace my existing pair :)
Effective aperture percentage also plays a part in exit pupil mm.
Thank you so much for your great introduction. I finally go with nikon p7 8X42 for my all time bino.
Thanks for watching! P7 8x42 is a great choice.

Nikon Action? Great underrated video. Sharing with friends.

That's easy, get 10x42 :)
Thank you for an excellent video. Love the tables for an easy comparison!
Thanks for watching!
Great Video! I#m currently searching for a bino beside my camera for wildlife photography. I think i wil go with the P7 8x30 or 10x30
Thanks! Both are great choices
Thank you for the great info and detailed specs comparison!
Thanks! :)
Which is considered a better rating, SUPER or GREAT? Thank you.
SUPER is the best rating, I should've made it more clear :)
Really good introduction
Thanks!
Very nice information about how to analyse exit pupil. Wonderful explanation
Thanks :)
One correction: At 2:54, the narration says "Our irises expand in bright light and contract in dim light". Actually, the reverse of this is true.
Shame they don't make higher end porro prism binos anymore.. They are still the best for astro
Excellent information. Thank you!

@@安愛啊I風 I would take the Nikon P7!
thanks bro thats what I needed
happy to help, thanks for watching
So I wanted to get the 8x42 but after watching your video I got more confused . So which one is better P3, 7s, or P7 .
P7 > 7s > P3. I would skip P3 but realistically any of them will be just fine

@@ede4345 sounds like a plan... good luck!
Would you take a used Monarch M5 over a P7 (for roughly the same price)?
For general use I'd take the M5 used in good condition. For birding / tracking small objects, I'd consider the P7 for the slightly wider FOV
@@lensvana Interesting.
It would actually be the previous generation M5. So I guess current gen P7 stands its ground against prev gen M5.
Hi, would you be interested in testing a binocular?
Hi, I like binoculars :) But I'm not the best person to test them - there are channels dedicated to that, I mostly test out cameras and lenses
Thank you well explained
