    1:25 "left leg goes up, right leg sweeps through" that's the most important part as it'll set you up to the pike position to throw

    I'm just starting to get my upper body to the point where I can hold handstands and was getting bored and trying to think of what to try next cause. I used to rollerblade so I'm good with spinning and feeling comfortable while inverted and always played with doing backflips and such when I was younger. So glad I found this video. TY for putting in the effort to make this for all us guys looking for some cool sh** to learn.

    @bboyrex20000 this seems like a common problem, like i would try to throw your left arm faster than your left leg can come down, focus on putting your hand down and catching, i feel like this is a mental thing where you get so used to landing on your left leg that i just happens everytime.... focus, throw that left arm fast! so you can break this mental block,, also try throwing off of footwork, or on a pad if regular style is causing you to mess up

    @metalhead0955 hey man i was 17 when I started too!.... and yes flexibility really really helps!....to get really good flexability, get warmed up then stretch, then practice and in the middle of practicing stretch again, and then at the end stretch again....try to hold your stretches for about 10-20 seconds....the one i do in the beginning of my tutorials is my favorite, but think of your whole body and be sure its all stretched out to so you dont get injured!

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @iPianoAzn you can learn airflares if you want!!!! try to start low like from a swipe and hop off of that and land on your feet or some where comfortably, then once you feel comfortable doing that try going from the throw, just start slow you can learn whatever you want! if youre dedicated!

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Dab1sh0p hey are you just beginning? cause if you are the kicking thing for some people like me took a while to get good....just be sure that you kick up with your left(CCW) or right(CW) before you jump....but also pay attention to your other leg,... dont let it just flop down, try to keep it solid.... really focus your whole body when attempting this move.. dont expect to just fly... and quickly put your hand down... sorry for the late reply...keep practicing!!

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @TheBboyshinobi yes it is! it just depends how dedicated you are towards a certain move! in your case the airflare, if you practice airflares, you will eventually get the airflare

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @BboyLnS first you swing then hop ....... but you should get it down to where its really a fluid motion of a swinnnnnnnghop.... not a swing ...pause hop...hope this helps

    People looking in his window are probably like what is this guy doing

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @cicciodev hey man if your doing a low airflare, you can still go into another airflare, just everytime you catch, try to whip another airflare, even if its super crappy, eventually your body will adjust and you will throw two, then three and so on, its mostly a mental thing..... so try and get out of the habbit of going from airflare to windmill, just always think multiple ....multiple!!!

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @TheDwenjang hmm i understand, this is probably very frustrating...your leg probably comes down like its second nature lol....i think it will really help to mentally focus on getting your right hand down before your right leg comes down, i feel like this is 80% a mental problem....when you throw off your left hand quickly throw your right arm down fast, before your leg has a chance to fall down,..... maybe do this on a pad or off of foot work to take the fear factor out!... hope this helps!

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @aznrmeox26 hey man no you dont have to have regular flares at first... i didn't, but i also practiced flares when i was practicing airflares, and i ended up gettting them both at about the same time.....learning flares will help you with strength, but they are both pretty different moves so its not necessary

  • @metalhead0955
    @metalhead0955 13 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hey man first of all great tutorial. good job explaining the steps. i'm 17 and i started getting into breaking about a month ago. i can do the windmill and no i want to start working on flares. I noticed in the beginning as you were stretching that you are capable of the full side splits. I assume this helps tremendously in doing powermoves. Are there any stretches or advice you can give me that will help me achieve the full side splits?

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @alvinl73 hey thanks man!
    yea you can learn any move you want! you dont need one to get another
    the flip hop part, you do all at once, lift comes from your leg swinging up, and your hop comes from your whole body, kindof like handhops, it takes practice!

  • @BboyJosheh
    @BboyJosheh 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Just wanted to give you a big thanks for this tutorial. I am progressing a lot faster.

  • @manofpopsicle
    @manofpopsicle 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Doing any bboy related activity will not only build strength for the move but also act as cardio, which would cause you to lose weight if you practice enough. So I suggest starting with simpler moves if you don't have them yet. Focusing on footwork, simple freezes, and easier powermoves such as windmills, flares, etc. will lose you weight and gain you the strength to do moves like this.
    Just my opinion, hope it helps

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @KidCaito make sure you keep the arm that your throwing off of tight and don't break the shoulder because you will loose power......... as for the sweep motion, try practicing swipes, because the motion is very similar, take it slow, it took me a while to get the sweeping motion down, but it helps a lot... just watch my airflare progression story vid and youll see what im talking about

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @MoDe900 hey man i checked out your airflare progression and you have amazing control, i would say just try and throw your right hand down faster so youll be higher in the air when it comes down and then probably able to crank out a second one, once you get the second one, its just a matter of feel and youll get more....so you dont have to go totally faster, just throw your RIGHT HAND DOWN FASTER! hope this helps!

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @dabbuful hey man you could learn it cw, but then keep in mind that it would be awkward when you try to chain moves together, if you do all of your other powermoves ccw then it might help to learn the airflare ccw too so you can chain moves....even if it takes an extra month or so.... just dont give up cause you will learn it if you just practice! im right handed and i go ccw which is the "left" handed way btw

  • @timothyy7
    @timothyy7 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    i realized that for a beginner to learn airflare, instead of the swoop, i think its better to pump the legs instead to get the idea that height is every power head's best friend, especially for air power moves! i say this because, i am still trying to learn the concept of the air flare but the swoop right now is not helping, but i did notice that someone else pumped their legs(same pump for handhops) and got over successful, so maybe i gotta learn this way.

    This was great man, I really liked that you show how to do that low level step to strengthen the hop.

  • @FocusedLucas

    @GrayFoxOriginal yea i know both airflare and flare, but i learned them separately if thats what your asking

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Dab1sh0p hmm if your going clock wise on the sweep, its ok if your left leg bends a little, but if its falling over too fast, then try to keep your legs synchronized and tight....keep practicing!

    One of the best ways to improve handstand balance and strenght is to do pushups while handstanding.
    I started practising with a wall and I'm now able to do 10-15 pushups while handstanding without any walls.

    thanks man this really helped now my sets are look really good when i do airflares

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  14 ปีที่แล้ว

    @rebelzhk are you going counter clock wise like me? cause then the jumping motion you get from left handed hand hops will most likely help, but you dont need to practice this too much, just enough so you can get that full body jump feel.
    it is best to practice doing the airflare the most if thats the move you want to get down, to get multiple airflares youve got to put it in your head that you can already do multiple airflares, and keep practicing and practicing! ull get them if you dont give up

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @MultiMegaChannel1 This is normal when starting, try to whip your leg up and hop off with your hands, and think to yourself always that you want to touch your hands before your feet! it will take practice but it helps to film yourself and see what your doing wrong!

    Great video! You have a new subscriber! I'm trying to learn Flares, Windmills, Headspins, and Air Flares (not at the same time of course) but I was wondering which I should learn first? I'm a complete beginner to breaking and no almost nothing, I mainly do Popping and Tutting but I want to learn breaking. Which of the moves do you think I should learn first and if any of these moves help learn other moves once you get good at them? Hope to hear from you soon!

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @justincredible9446 yes i know what you mean! haha, when you catch after the first one, tense up and take control, dont let it get away from you! just thinking about taking control will help, but yes doing it a lot is the key....practice practice practice! youll get it!

    Thank you sooo much this helped greatly I now I need to learn the jumping part. Learned this in 1 day

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @swifi28 hey its pretty important, you might be able to walk over and catch with your hand if your strong enough, but the whip will get you better height and momentum to continue....hope this helps and damn sorry for the fricken late reply lol

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @SmallBoyzzz hey man this happens to me too!...really really try to start slow, and work your way up, like think about everything your body needs to do and do it slow enough so that it happens, it doesnt matter if its too slow....then work on speeding it up as it gets put into your muscle memory!

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @2azn4rice hey yea this happens a lot!.... maybe try and throw your arm faster so your lower body has less time to come down...., also consider the "hop" if you're not doing it, but remember to incorporate your whole body so one part of your body doesn't go without the other, which might be happening now....hope this helps!

    A really good tutorial! The other Bboy who call his tutorial "finally a good tutorial" is arrogant.

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @theramenninja I wouldn't say you would have to be able to do a pushup, but for most power moves it is good to be good with your body weight, so if you can't do a push up, try doing pushups from your knees and then eventually you will be able to move to your feet, but just strait up practicing the airflare will build you enough strenght you need. and for being a girl /watch?v=fZ6Gf6QfZcw ...... it should be no problem

  • @TackHosokawa
    @TackHosokawa 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    You won't actually fall on your head even if you fail to catch yourself. Worst that could happen in that case is you land on the top part of your back. It might hurt a little but more than anything it's quite surprising. You can probably get over the fear of that by learning rubberbands, which also requires you to jump onto your hands backwards.

  • @FreeKicksPFC

    this would be awesome to learn, im a bit athletic and think i could be capable of this with some practice. just one of those cool things you gotta learn

  • @FocusedLucas
    @FocusedLucas  13 ปีที่แล้ว

    @Xkmn hey man thanks!
    that pop can be helpful, you might be able to get a better airflare if you try it from the foot work position... give it a try from that, because you can lose a lot of energy after a flare.... but keep practicing if you can do a flare to almost airflare, ... you should get it with practice!

    Hey Pigmie! I've been training Airflares for 4 months now and it's gotten better over the time I've been practicing... However when I whip my legs (CW) My left leg drops almost straight away and my left foot taps/scrapes the floor a split second before my left hand catches lol Is the whip in an Airflare exactly the same as a Flare? (As in like how to start a Flare with the right leg kicking round toward the left leg then the left leg then kicking up towards your face)
