He had been trained to act with honor towards pilots who were parachuting from falling planes and equated this as the same. To use his own words: "To me, it was just like they were in a parachute. I saw them and I couldn't shoot them down." Years later, the pilot of the B-17, Charles Brown tracked down the pilot who spared his plane and escorted them to friendly skies. The two became friends until they died within months of each other in 2008.
Stigler himself said of the ye old pub I couldn’t bring myself to shoot them down. doing that would have been no different than shooting a man in a parachute. Some in Canada called him a Nazi some in Germany called him a traitor but to me Stigler was a good man.

You see, people says that Honor is a thing only in games these days when it comes to aviation, calling it stupid. If I would be able to join the air force like a dear friend of mine is doing these days, I would always try and be as fair as possible when in the sky. The thing that unites most pilots Is only one, and that is the passion of flying. Always respect your enemy for that when you engage them.
Great playing & singing! And thanks for including the historic summary during the guitar solo; it truly is a powerful story of the togetherness of humanity, even in the middle of war. We need these reminders that we're all members of one human race, & honor is what gave us all the good that we have today, as part of society. We should think of what struggles other people might be going through, & look upon them with patience & support. We're all in this together! ❤🩹❤
franz stigler may have been on the wrong side of history, but he was on the right side of humanity. minor correction, herr stigler was one kill away from the knights cross of the iron cross, and higher version of the iron cross that could only be awarded to those already awarded the iron cross 2nd and 1st classes.

Stigler had the opportunity to shoot down the crippled bomber but instead, he refused and escorted it over and past German-occupied territory so as to protect it. After an extensive search by Brown, the two pilots met each other 50 years later and developed a friendship that lasted until Stigler's death in March 2008. Brown died only a few months later, in November of the same year. Despite we are all different nations, we're all the same... brothers, sisters, heroes and foes no matter who we are and the story of the Charlie Brown and Franz Stigler incident is a great, touching example of what that can be even in times of war when two sides fight there is a sign of good in one another.

Stigler, the German hero lost out on a Knights cross but upon discovery of his actions could have lost his life. Remenber this when considering German actions is WW2.
Stigler survived the war and emigrated to Canada. In 1990 both Stigler and Brown met for the first time. Both stayed close friends until their death in 2008.
