Kool Rock Steady had issues with the D.J. International Label on getting paid. He felt they were stiffin’ him. After fighting and fighting with the Label, he finally asked for his release. He then moved to New York City with his cousin, Afrika Bambaataa, who promised to put him on his label (Tommy Boy Records). However, the deal with Tommy Boy Records went sour because his content was “too aggressive” and because he was dissin’ Chicago “their sister city”… They told him Tommy Boy Records promoted positive hip hop and were not in the beef game. They also noted Chicago was their 2nd largest market-in terms of sales. They weren’t gonna allow any content on their label speaking negative about the city of Chicago or any Chicago artist. Afterwards, he had no choice but to sign with a small indie label called RAZZ Records. Razz Records let him go lose and gave him artistic freedom, and he started dissin’ all chicagoan hip-house artist as planed, claiming they all copied his style and proclaiming himself “The Real King of Hip House” Until he passed away he still kept beef with most chicago DJs/artist, except, Julian Perez and Bad Boy Bill, whom he still considered “good friends” and still kept a close relationship with them.
