i felt the same way when i first heard this album. I hated quas' flow, style etc. but as I continued to listen to this album, I realized that the unseen is a hip hop classic. MADLIB did a phenomenal job producing every track with various types of beat machines (sp 303, sp 1200 etc) . The UNSEEN is a great album, just keep listening and you will become addicted to it. You will bob your head back and forth while you recite the lyrics. easy
this album rivals Madvillainy but I think its far less welcoming and it takes way more listens in order to appreciate the abstract genius this album offers
The only thing i dislike is that in “return of the loop digga” he says something about producers sampling the same sh*t… when he used at least two hit samples in the same album lol. Other than that I love the album, the beats and the way he transitions between his own voice and qausimoto in a single verse. Just don’t like the hypocrisy. Artifacts - wrong side of the tracks (found in The Unseen) AZ - Ho Happy Jackie (found in MHB)
This whole album was conceived while Madlib was on a 7-Day mushroom binge. Songs like this really show what went through his mind while high on shrooms.
I'm pretty sure this beat samples on an old psychedelic cartoon from Czechoslovakia called Fantastic Planet. Clearly this man was indeed on mushrooms when he made this.
Just discovered that the instrumental is from an animated movie called "Fantastic Planet", specificly from the fight scene which can be found on TH-cam. One of the weirdest thing I've stumbled across on the Internet.
I love this song. It came on twice in a row on my iTunes shuffle (7000 songs two of which are come on feet.) Now I'm watching this music video for the first time ever, so great!
Actually its not even pitched. He recorded the different voices in different tempos, and then speeded it up to match the BPM. Thats what crazy about this guy. Plus he did the whole think while on acid.
@popp1nbottlez you know what you are talking about. i feel it too. especially what you say about the tragic and anxiety. this song always hits me straight to the heart!
this song is brilliant because of how dark it is. the lyrics are kind of playful but the beat is just scary and gloomy. I also kind of find it disturbing how calm both lord quas and madlib sound when rapping about how their legs dont work anymore lol.
@Vinsanity15814 I think the point of this song is that, when you're on shrooms sometimes, you can feel as if each organ and extension of your body is a different thing, and it's VERY hard to work all of them at once. Not actually hard to walk, just hard to comprehend how each thing works. It's hard to explain.
I hear some La Bracelet by Alain Goraguer, also used in Big Pun's Boomerang. It might be the Fantastic Planet soundtrack, I have no idea since I haven't seen it yet!
ok i get it now its like him stepping on the bugs and getting hurt is like getting bogged down by insignifigant things and then he like gets eaten in the end it shows that if you let yourself get slowed down then you'll end up insignifigant and ruined by it
Yeah true that, but you couldnt just search it on youtube in the early 2000's. I'd imagine it'd be super hard finding actual copies of the soundtrack; but I also like how we had the rolling drums from the extermination scene. He wouldn't have been able to get that from an actual soundtrack.
exactly! the popping at the first of the song is also from the Fantastic Planet (english name). at first i was like "Hey, that sounds just like in Fantastic Planet, but nah, there's no way it is." then the music started and i was like "NO WAY!" shame there is such a crummy audio over it :/
lord quas, and i do mean LORD quas is the absolute RAWness! I hope there will be further adventures of the quasimadlib INVASIONS! its for those that know and those that don't, so if you don't get it, GOOD! PEACE to my LooP DiggaH Family!
How can ANYBODY debate Libs Shroom experience?!? Despite what you have may read, it affects people in different ways. Me personally, i would NEVER wanna trip THAT long. But sheesh. Bonked OUT.
Well Quas is Madlib (the producer) and he has always hated his deep voice, so he slows down the track and raps to it at that pace, then speeds the track up once it's all recorded. And once he speeds his vocals up, they sound high pitched. Kinda weird lol

Sooo true I was so disappointed at first but over time 🔥💯

It’s just so odd I think it takes some time - it definitely stands out and sort of grabs you though/

Yet I smoke for this like a MF lmao
Quasi always has the most textured beats. He can get out any emotion while keeping the underlying chill feeling. Definitely some music to blaze to.

In the stones throw documentary he says it was a month

It may be, but the original song is "Come on Feet" from Sweet Sweetback's Baadasssss Song, performed by Earth Wind and Fire.
Actually its not even pitched. He recorded the different voices in different tempos, and then speeded it up to match the BPM. Thats what crazy about this guy. Plus he did the whole think while on acid.
