8:50 I can't believe the professor said that manga/anime isn't art! 🙀 Manga is truly a beautiful style of art. Luckily, my art teacher was accepting of manga style art; all teachers/professors should be 😔 Edit: I don't agree with the professors who think manga isn't art, but I'm respectful of their opinion. It's ok to have a different opinion from the professors, but we shouldn't harass, be offensive, or throw hate at them.
@Zayra Maldonado I'll still consider it art, every art teacher should support students. The real reason is because manga or anime isn't accurate and is not an original style.
It is the same when music professors said rap isn't art. And to be honest, Picasso and Van Gogh were often told their style isn't art. Many professors still don't consider Banksy as art. Art professors are nothing but snobby old geysers who refuse to change with the world. I wouldn't put too much stock into their taste. Just learn the technicalities and go out into the real world and do you. leave them to stew in their 1000 year old beliefs. Who cares?
My art teacher from highschool hated anime art. We were given a project to do whatever we wanted in whatever medium we chose. So I decided to do a really pretty colored pencil piece of sailor moon, she gave me a 40 pt deduction because it "wasnt art" It bothered me alot then but I'm comfortable in my art preferences now

@@otakumangastudios3617 I get that and I know the point they were making. I was backing up that point. He was there to help us with the technical aspects and to push us to do better. He had to be out for back surgery and the person who subbed for him was like that professot who thought anime/manga wasn't art. I was smart enough to have turned my folder in before he left, but someone else wasn't. Not entirely sure whatever came of that... Assuming they worked it out since he graduated... But, art is a form of expression and to say one form is more real than any other is elitist bull crap and goes against what art is all about!!! It's about self expression! About turning thoughts into reality! It's an outlet! I am glad that you didn't let that professor get the better of you. I love your art and find it to be very pretty and cute. You are very talented. ♡
I went to an art college in Chicago that was very respectful of manga, considering it's an ENTIRE PROFESSION, I don't see how people can say that it's not "real art" -_-... Anyway, this was such a fun little video, I really enjoyed those crayons too, I need to find a way to get a hold of them!

i really like your art style personally!! i didn't know how to jump into this but i remember in middle school, i got really into watching anime and reading manga. i know my 6th grade library manga section wasn't all that big but i read every single book from there in like half the school year!! and i remember some of my friends telling me "isn't manga and anime for kids?" and i'm not sure if i said this to them or myself but i said/felt like saying, "then why are some mangas that i read or some animes that i watched rated M for mature?" I honestly think people see it (mostly) as some cartoony/cute style that reminds them of kid stuff and assume it's childish. It's like people telling me I'm too old for Disney and animated movies. And I feel like responding, "then why did i ball my eyes out the first time i saw the ending of How To Train Your Dragon 3?" a lot of animated things have plenty of elements and things that can really touch adults. And i understand what it's like for art teachers to say negative things. Like you, I'm a self-taught artist. I took my first art class in college and I KNEW I was bad at drawing. I took Drawing I to learn how to improve my art skills. but it was frustrating having a teacher who didn't really help me improve and just criticize everything i made. i remember when we first used charcoal (WHICH I HATE AND NEVER WANT TO TOUCH A PIECE OF CHARCOAL EVER IN MY LIFE) and we were doing proportions (which i'm bad at and i knew in that class i was bad at it). and there was about 5/10 minutes left in that portion of the class. and our teacher was walking around the room. I knew she was going to tell me to start over but i cold guarantee you i wouldn't even have any time to finish it. and when she came around, she did.. i remember our class of like 20 people, that not even halfway through the semester, we had like 10 people and sometimes there were only like 5 people. so i knew it wasn't just me who hated her. i had someone in my class who had learning disabilities (like me) and i don't think she ever accommodated to them.. but at least almost all of my other art teachers were wayyyyyyyyy nicer.. except my Design I teacher who was weird. HE DIDN'T EVEN KNOW STAN LEE!! our final was to create a mural for something and around when i took the class, Stan Lee had passed away so i wanted to create a mural. and when we had to share what we were doing, he asked the class if anyone knew who he was and LITERALLY everyone raised their hand and talked about how they knew him.. sorry for my long stories.. sometimes i feel like i should share my art stories with a fellow artist!
