i have the same light bar on my 2019 gmc at4 since 2020 and still works to perfection. I didnt remove tailgate and i connected the 4 pin to the outside and turned on a turn signal to get my center. I would say to get the Curt 55384 or MECMO 55384 harness plug n play. My truck has the same gap as yours but doesnt bother me it cant be seen and as long as the corners and the middle are held by the 3m tape it will stay on

So far, the light bar has been great for us as well. We ended up getting the plug and play harness after the video.

Thank you for your harness tip (with specific part numbers). Just exactly the kind of solution i was looking for, and it set me on the right path.
The harnesses you cite have 4 pin outputs; i think a 5 pin solution, like Oyviny 56584 USCAR 7 Pin to 5 Pin Trailer Wiring Harness, makes more sense however, as it includes the backup signal on the fifth pin (i.e. splicing it in isn't required).
It baffles me why the light bar manufacturers don't use a 5 pin connector on their light bars, rather than leave the dangling backup light wire. I understand that 4 pin connectors are more common, but they could provide something like the CURT 57187 4-Way to 5-Way Flat Adapter, or Oyviny OV-4T5-1460, for a universal solution. Very kludgy the way they have it; worst of all possible solutions.
Anyhow, looks like i can just crimp a bullet connector on the dangling white wire, and plug it into the fifth connector on the 5 pin connector (since i won't be unplugging the light bar, except to replace it). I will then wrap the whole connection with cloth tape, or maybe shrinkwrap it.

Does that optional "ballast" have anything to do with newer vehicles trailer sensing systems? My understanding is that light bars make some newer vehicles go berserk, and some light bar manufacturers have countermeasures.

It should only light up when the tail lights light up.
