The court was a meter longer in those days and so the game had more shooting and not so much straight power like today. Shorter players could perform at a higher level because blocking was less effective with the bigger court. Quickness was also more important because of having to cover the larger space.

Brings back so many memories. Smith , Stoklos, Hovland, Dodd and many, many more. Back when Volleyball was REAL and you had to earn your points. I remember playing one (yes 1) game that would last 2 to 3 hours. So much fun to play and watch. Thanks for the video.

They killed everything that made beachvolleyball so amazing by downsizing the court :-(

Watching a video of all these long rallies seem like common place in Beach VBall.

"I never really got the chance to see sinjin in top form like these vids. GREAT stuff. "
These started at 90' I believe. Smith and Stoklos's prime was the mid 80's. Sinjin's defense was absolutely incredible. He's either a mindreader or capable of traveling back in time a half second at will.

Sinjin and Randy were unreal. Karch is the Michael Jordan of Volleyball but Smith\Stoklos were unstopable from 86 to 91-92. Awesome players.

I never really got the chance to see sinjin in top form like these vids. GREAT stuff.
Its clear in one of these that fro and randy didnt get along
I have never seen that "flipper" work like it with with randy in clearwater, and sinjins knuckler... awesome

@willhalt01 The timer was the rally clock they used from the end of 91-98. They started using that so they could show it on live TV. NBC didn't want to air a live sideout final that could also go into a double final, so they made the final just 1 game to 15.

The best part of that video was the last part where you said this was done on the 30 x 30 court and not that wimpy small court they play today. lmao

man love the old school side out until you drop volleyball. and actually bumping on the serve. These games and watching Sinjin dig made me get into volleyball in the first place. Thanks for this vid!

You just watched a video where the ball is set in almost every highlight, and you ask if it is allowed?

i asked kent if Bruk V. still has nightmares about this match. his response was : everyone wants to have their name on the pier. apparently K and K wanted it a little more. I'm not so sure, haven't heard from/of Vandeweghe since. Hope he's not medicated............

Yeah I was there for that one.. absolutely insane. Should have been seen by many more people. I actually saw a better version of that somewhere along time ago. I play with a guy that does a few kicks a weekend.. but not on a hard spike like that.. just incredible. Forever etched in my mind.

So, so good...Keep 'em coming, Lee.... Where were all these TH-cam vids when I was a kid growing up playing ball and constantly hearing that it was a "girl's sport?" Not that there's anything wrong with that...

all they do is hitting the ball on the adversary, of course it does rallys, its like a warm-up...

    • @MAMP
      @MAMP 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I challenge you to go stand on the court for when they "hitting the ball down" and see if you dont shit yourself.

watch this.... and listen to Marlowe................ nothing compares to it. geeter is a nice guy, but is an embarassment compared to marlowe. think of rosenthal's hit at manhattan with marlowe commenatating? Exactly. enogh said.
