    Thanks so much for this video. I purchased a meter, took a look at the directions, and said I would do it later. Well, later still hasn't come! Now I know what to do, so I'll get the distilled water and do the calibration. I love your videos...my first ferment was your dill pickles and they have been a huge hit with everyone. The sauerkraut just got finished today and it's amazing. Thanks so much for your clear instructions, insights, and encouragement.

    I got the same PH meter and never did get it properly calibrated. This was just excellent. I read the directions several times and never got the message that you showed and explained so well in this video. Thank you most sincerely. I think the company owes you a free meter for doing such an excellent job explaining how to calibrate. The meter is useless if not properly calibrated and their instructions were really lacking. Thank you again. And I waited patiently for this carrot recipe and am so anxious to do it. You are batting a 1000 with me.

      Glad to know it's not just me... I followed this video to the T and got similar results. "Err" I found this video especially informative on the expected malfunctions indicating the unit is bad and should be replaced. I will not be purchasing this super inexpensive model this time around they seem fragile and unreliable. Thanks so much for your time tallant and effort in sharing this fermentation subject with us. It is so essential for correcting the damage done by consuming the foods of the modern western diat. Thank you Adrienna, are a God send.

    Since the glass and knife that you stirred with might cool the liquid down a bit, I would heat the water to a few degrees above 25 (think 27-28 would be a good number) mix the solution, then wait for it to drop to 25 (if needed).

    you can save the buffer solutions in sealed and labeled water bottles or similar containers. as long as they dont evaporate they will remain the same PH and can be used for calibration whenever you need.

    Hello Adrienne and thank you for all the informative video, specifically the ones relating to fermentation. I just received my PH meter and watched your calibration video. You calibrate with three packets, my meter, which is the same as yours only came with the ph 6.86 @ 25 and the 4.01 @ 25. Instructions are also only for the 2. Any idea why? Did you get the extra packets from Amazon? By the way I am in Canada 🇨🇦. Have a great weekend.

    • @CleanFoodLiving
      @CleanFoodLiving  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mine came with 3 so I didn't need to order any. My thought is this - the most important calibration range is the 6.86 and 4.01 .... because in fermentation, you'll probably never see a 9+ PH reading anyway, but you will see the lower range. Point being, I think you'll be just fine with only the two.👍

    What a revelation. Thanks so much for this very useful video. I have had this same PH meter for around 6 months now and have followed the calibration instructions exactly but the instructions don't say to hold the cal button an extra time in the 2nd test or a second time in the 3rd test like you showed. I just re read the instructions again to be sure but it doesn't say it anywhere. I have had ok results using it anyway but have found a need to calibrate a little more often. Now I am going to try and calibrate it your way and see if it works better. Thanks from Sweden!

    Have you already made or will you make videos about lower sodium fermentation?
    My sodium intake is my only nutrient that is outside of the recommendations.
    If I were to cut out or down on fermented foods of various kinds (my main source of sodium) I would get to the limit of 2.3g of sodium per day. But I don't want to do that. So lower sodium fermentation would be extremely helpful.

    Hi, how do we know that the device needs to be calibrated??

  • @cHAOs9
    @cHAOs9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The volume of water needs to be EXACT or the PH will off. Weigh the water to exactly 250 grams added. The temp is important too but just needs to be close enough, it only barely affects PH while water volume affects PH a lot.
    Also leave the meter in each cup for 30 seconds BEFORE holding for 5 seconds. The meter takes time to read PH.
    EDIT: also u probably dont have to calibrate it at all, when new it will probably be accurate to roughly 0.1 PH which is close enough for most purposes. Keep probe from drying out by soaking it in distilled water for hours if needed. And always rinse in distilled water before and especially after use.
    This video was fantastic compared to the other ones i saw which were blatantly wrong about almost everything they said. This one was almost entirely correct, with just a few added steps i posted above.

    I still have some questions. Does the water have to be 25°C to MIX the powder and/or to do the calibration? It does drop in temp as you stir the powder in, so could/should you microwave it to bring it back up to 25°C? Then, since temp appears to be a factor, should anything you're testing with the meter, once it's calibrated, also be a certain temp/25°C? If you save and store the testing waters, should you bring them back to 25°C before recalibrating?

    • @CleanFoodLiving
      @CleanFoodLiving  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A degree difference doesn't really matter. I have found if the medium being tested is really cold, like from the fridge, the ph is a little off. for best accuracy, allow it to come to room temp before testing. Always testing at 25C is not mandatory, just avoid extreme hot and extreme cold.

I think it is too crazy. Also, to keep the sensor moist, I used to use tap water to keep the sensor head moist but the seller said"No" ! Must use a special solution - potassium chloride saturated solution to keep the cotton pad in the cover tap wet. My PH pen is a bit differnent from yours.

I thought the ridges were just a gripping point. I also didn’t know which replacement buffers to buy. Thanks so much. By the way, if I’m not actively fermenting or using my meter a lot, I make it a point to rinse and recap my meter each day when I feed my sourdough starter. That keeps the bulb damp…very important. Great video! Thanks! I have the same meter (also yellow with the very same buffer bags) but something seems to be wrong with it since it is not sensitive to the fast button pushes to set up the calibration level for the next liquid. It just "tries" to assume what is the pH of the solution and only gets the 9.18 right... The 4.01 is assumed as being the 6.86. The 6.86 suggests a calibration of 9.18 again. Those 3 points in the calibration curve make the reading completely wrong. I am trying to figure out if this is some sort of new hardware version that "guesses" the calibration pH without allowing the user to set it up manually. Maybe they wanted to simplify the process that way, which in my case, generated the opposite effect.

It is hard to get the temperature to stabilize to 25 degree celcius, my third one was one degree too high and it took awhile for it to drop maybe 15 minutes. I had already added the buffer powder so I could not add cooler water. I hope the amount of time in between #2 and #3 did not mess up the calibration process. Hi, I just got the inkbird ph meter, and have "0" zero experience with them. I have heard of the probe storage solution being used for storage, and cleaning.. Since the world is full of accidents, I want to keep an eye on my town water, and swimming hole.. When should I use it, or should I? Thank you. Great video

      The packets are required for calibration. You can get more packets on Amazon. A link is provided in the video description for the correct ones.

    Points to bear in mind.
    If you heat the water to 25c. .this temperature will drop below by the time you pour into glass stir,and then test the metre -Does that matter?.I am inclined to heat to 27c to allow for this.The other point is ,if the pen is accurate it should register the same ph as that shown for each buffer solution ,when first placed in the solution,so may not need calibrating.Seems obvious,but I check this first .Of course if the powder or water is not pure.,that will affect the reading accuracy I think.I welcome feedback

    Very well done! What happens if it's not used for a few months and it dries out? will it dry out with the cap on? If it does will re-calibrating it suffice, or is it shot?

      Drying out usually kills it and it can't be resurrected (in my experience)

    My manual says to use deionized water. Can I use distilled water instead?

      I'm sure that is fine.

    hi, has anyone tried this ph meter for sausage/salami making? i only see videos using this type of ph meter on liquid and not on meat.

    If my pool water temperature varies between 18-27C degree would a pH calibration at 25C degree impact the accuracy for the varying pool temperatures?

    I JUST PURCHASED A METER IN OCT. 2023 THE ONE I RECIEVED ONLY HAD THE FIRST 2 PACKETS (RED AND GREEN) NO BLUE, DOES THIS MATTER??

      No, follow the instructions it came with. It will be similar to this video minus 1.

    I lost my packets because I didn’t use distilled water. How can I get more packets? I also used the wrong temperature

    I don't have distilled water, I have 2 ph readers now because one when turned one goes wild with numbers. I'm stuck

    • @CleanFoodLiving
      @CleanFoodLiving  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If it goes wild and does not stabilize, that is a bad meter. If still in the return window, send it back. I've had that happen before.

    Excellent demo. ! We have that same pH meter model. Is it necessary to calibrate No.3 ? We gonna test our Aquarium pH level

    thankyou. I was reading thru the instructions and not quite understanding them. now that I have it calibrated - how do you raise or lower your PH? using this for hydroponics. thank you

    Oh thank you! I bought it after watching your video on white Kimchi and boy, the directions almost made me give up because they don't say in the how to, to warm the water so I ended up having to warm the water with the granules in it. You are a superstar!!

    I ordered this ph meter to measure my ph of bottled water. How can I do that? It seems that whenever I put it in, it goes down..and never stops at what ph it currently is. Am I getting this wrong?

    I've got two different ph meters and used this calibration, now I've got two separate results. One reads my tap water at 7.8 the other at 8.2 and my test strips say some where between 7.6 to 8.0

      Not this one, liquids only... but you can with the upgrade meter (it can do just about everything that is not a pure liquid): amzn.to/4dlnTeB

    I could not get the third one to dissolve. does the temp have to be exactly 25C.? I noticed that yours was 25.4

    • @CleanFoodLiving
      @CleanFoodLiving  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Does not have to be exact. Granules that won't dissolve are ok.
