  • Sitrep looks at the future shape of the Royal Navy as the government talks of a new "golden era in shipbuilding" and assesses what it can learn from current conflicts. Expert analysis from Commodore Steve Prest who's just left the service and former naval warfare officer Professor Peter Roberts from RUSI.
Sitrep's Simon Newton reports from Poland on Exercise Immediate Response, designed to reinforce the Alliance's Eastern flank and deter Russia, with 2,500 UK troops taking part and we hear from the Telegraph’s Colin Freeman in Ukraine.
Finally, Sitrep discusses how soldiers should balance taking ground in conflict with the duty to protect historic sites and artifacts with Dr Peter Caddick-Adams and the Commander of the Cultural Property Protection Unit Roger Curtis.
Kate Gerbeau presents, with expert analysis from Professor Peter Roberts.
You can read Cdre Prest's opinion piece for Forces News here: www.forces.net/services/navy/...

One of the main lessons from Ukraine is that corruption in defense procurement can lose you the war. And I would suggest that UK corruption levels are unacceptable and need to be met with a scorched earth campaign upon the arrival of the new government.

You surprise me as I wouldn't have expected corruption in western nation as too many people would know about it. I'm not claiming our defence procurement & contractors are angelic virgins who're above that, as I say I think there's too many folks who'd have to know about it.

Clearly, these 3 (6) new amphibious ships are a step in the right direction, though overdue.
    🚢
They shall form part of the vanguard and are essential assets for our Commando Force as they are an adaptable forward presence...

Will these new amphibious ships (MRSS) be LHD or LPD?

I’m just disturbed at the “upto 6” which to me means something less with 6 being the top end ! Also let’s stop building potential capability in because we never reach thst potential . Build these ships with capability now . We need ballistic missile defence - but need to upgrade type 45s - because they only have potential . We need mk41 VLS now and more launch systems in general - but again only potential . Just appeases politicians conscience because they can say we are building 28 new ships - but only with potential . Meanwhile Putin is real .

      Agreed, buddy 👊🏼
We are an island nation and so need more ships.
In the 1914 King's Review, the RN assembled 400 ships off Spithead.
In 1939, he RN had 1400 ships, just before WW2.
IN 2024, we only have 66 commissioned warships of the line...

@@gadgetgus Doubt it. They said all six will be one ship class. So it is either LPD or LHD. Can't be both.

Maybe build ships in the U.K. as the RFA’s are being built in India ?
Also Building them to be a bit more robust, so that they don’t spend as much time in driving dock.

Want to know the condition of the Navy, go to Wikipedia type in ‘The 2nd Anglo-Dutch War’ and click on ‘Raid on the Medway’, tells you everything. 360+ years later, still doing the same stupid things. Fortunate there’s no Dutch navy around.
