Lived on the island from 1990-1997. Went to school in SDA. Those were one of the best years of my life. I consider Pohnpei my hometown because of that. Thanks for posting this video! ♥😘👍
It's nice seeing our beautiful island again on youtube :) the man you last interviewed is my dad, you kinda' misspelled his name. it's Franciso Sohl :) ...... good documentary tho
Oh no. Sorry to hear. The way he wrote it down looked like that! I'm really glad you liked it. Your dad was great to meet and talk with. Important work!
What an amazing documentary, to the pacific inland and to remember what they have experienced, and what are facing them at the moment... what the future will bring. Fascinating stories and thank you for the efforts love from South Pacific. And hope you can come over to do stories for Samoan, Fijian, Tongan, Tuvalu, Neui and Cook Islands etc.
I've watched all your stuff, first off, you've used "us" in mixing with Guam,Palau and the others as well..Were Yapese, and were one of a kind too, even though we're with the FSM,were the closest to Guam and Palau so I can see why...anyway just want to point out.We are simple, happy yet prideful Islanders, each having our own way of life, cultural and traditional values and what not. It's good stuff what you made anyway :)
B K first of all don’t embarrass yourself. Secondly educate yourself. There is no need for nitpicking because Guam is an island in Micronesia in the Pacific Ocean and is part of the United States. Yap is an island in the Federated States of Micronesia. You’re not that special you’re just part of those 4 island of Micronesia. 😂
Just so you know, I didn't take this for "nitpicking". I understood where you are coming from. I hope others may educate themselves with manners so they may at least show some class when trying to get their redundancy across.
Lovely video. They should consider a series of reserves on the reefs with absolutely no catch like Belize does. It has been a very effective way to maintain reefs across the nation.
I guess Im asking randomly but does any of you know a method to get back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost the account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me.
@Kolton Turner thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff now. Seems to take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
I noticed this Island is driving on the right side of the road, but the wheel is also on the right. So I guess the law allowed both side of steering wheel? It's a beautiful Island, love to visit one day
let me just add some information according to you Guide: Some of you have heard it,some of you have been there. Nan Douwas the most frequent visited structure of NanMadol. Actually NanMadol has a lot of Stories, it has oral histories that are rich and that are very informative. Its combination of what you might call myth, legend and historical facts. For us, it’s up to us to make sure that we interpret or otherwise we understand and explain our oral traditions correctly. A lot of people might say, that is a legend or that is a myth well that is something that is not based on facts. Then some might ask where the fact is or where are the facts about that place. As for me, it must be combined because we do not have written language we cannot go back and verifying things that weren’t written in the past. So what happen is that oral traditions are handed down to generations to generations? PAHNKEDIRA is the Residential area of the HIGH CHIEFS not NANDOUAS.. Oral histories indicated that people from that general area Katau Peidi was headed by two Brothers call Olosohpa and Olisihpa they arrived on Pohnpei there was already religious practices and ceremonies happening on Pohnpei called PWUNGINSAPW literally means WORSHIP of THE LAND. The two brothers first arrived on Sokehs. They brought in NAHLISOUNSAPW..Meaning worship of the land and the sea. They came to NORTH moving to NORTH EAST.They came looking for a suitable place for their religious ceremony. Olisipa died and Olosohpa became the FIRST Dynastic Ruler of Nanmadol. Sau comes from the word Soun, means EXPERT.
Thanks for all this great oral history. Really fascinating. One could do an entire doc on your ancient history. I'd love to see a Hollywood blockbuster on the two brothers too. Maybe one day.
I always thought that Sau meant Lord.. like Saudeleurs = Lord of Deleurs.. and regarding our oral history what you said is right there are no ways for us to go back and verify the veracity of the stories passed down.
I want to move to Phonpei but I have a couple questions if anyone can help. Are there any apartments or homes to rent or buy there? Is there a good hospital and pharmacy there? And finally, is their an elementary school there? I have a 7 year old son. Sorry for all the questions but I just think it's best to ask before I arrive
It’s not a place where you can just move and find a job, doesn’t really have livable wages that’s why the locals are leaving. You can’t really rent homes, everything is locally owned but it shouldn’t be hard to find a home I’m assuming, and yes there are numerous elementary schools
@@santospaul8103 Thanks Paul I appreciate the information. I don't need a job I am retired from the Navy. I do have a question. Are there 2 hospitals on Phonpei and how is healthcare care there? I have read healthcare in Phonpei isn't very good. I really appreciate you sending me a message. I don't like to ask people for help but I haven't been to Phonpei but I did live in Guam for a couple years. So finding a home is easy, that's good to know. I look forward to hearing from you. I didn't say it was. I was telling history and showing similar images at same time. But so curious there is an actual alter. Very cool. Thanks for telling us

hey dude, just a heads up. marco polo visited china in 1271-1295 and documented the chinese yolking dragons to chariots.. also the 12 animals in the chinese zodiac, 11 are common every day animals, and then the 12th is a dragon.. why would the chinese include this mythological creature with 11 other every day animals... also before the term 'dinosaur' was invented, all 'dinosaur' bones were considered worldwide to be dragon bones... so yeah... research more
