Whsts up newish sub here! I saved 3 sealed evo skies etbs and like 5 sleeved boosters after I finally pulled my moonbreon because I knew prices would skyrocket. I have a small sealed celebrations assortment as well as pokemon go because I think since NOONE likes it it's gonna be impossible to find in 10 years.
Just got back into the hobby after 20 plus years. Found me and brothers old binder full of Base Shadowless and Unlimited cards, and some 1st edition Jungle set cards My approach: Crown Zenith ETB - Holding Vstar Universe - Chasing Set Surging Sparks Pokémon Center ETB - Holding (preordered) Super Electric Breaker - Hold with English Version or Chase Set. If I don't chase the set, likely try to procure the top chase or one of them to Hold. Following basic English/Japanese version strategy, will likely do the same for upcoming Eevee and Team Rocket Sets. Would like to get some Stellar Crown, Obsidian and 151 in the same fashion if price drops or availability increases on 151.
I don’t like opening any product. The way my brain works is if I start a set, I want to complete it, so I have to pick and choose the sets I open. I chose 151 for scarlet/violet era. It was a good choice. I heard a rumor that team rocket set will not include dark pokes. Sad
@anibal7121 i was this way for like 2 years when I got back in the hobby. Eventually realized that completing sets requires time and SPACE I don't have. (I'm married with 2 busy children) I only chase the best cards and ive slowly moved away from having every common and uncommon to every set, to only having every banger card from every set. I have quite an insane stack of alternate arts and special illustration rares. Too each their own its all fun I wish you the best! In 10 years it will be interesting to see what people decided to keep and what they decide to trash! That's what determines value in the long term. With a whole generation of whatnot streamers literally just throwing away every card that's not a secret rare who knows what will be rare in the future.
New subscriber here. I like your strategy to buy two booster boxes; open one and sell the individual cards and keeping one sealed. Wash, rinse, and repeat to grow. It’s like Monopoly, raise cash to buy set properties, buy 4 green houses (booster box), then 1 hotel (booster box case).
If were talking strictly new release strategy. I'm buying sealed case(s) of pc etbs and booster boxes only. As much as I can manage without hindering the rest of my life. Spend within your means.
I used to just rip for hits, than started completing sets and buying slabs to build a collection, now I’ll start adding PC ETBs and maybe a booster box or two sealed per set will see how that goes
Surging sparks is not as hyped up as people make it seem. Pc etbs are still in stock. 151 on the other hand sold out pretty quick within days. And the restock was a blink of an eye.
After being an idiot returning to the hobby a few months back (went overboard a bit, but not such that I can't handle it) I've thankfully scratched the itch of "gotta open them all" and am transitioning to buying the pre-release bundles from shops like safari-zone and poke-collect that have a booster box, etb, blister packs, and some sleeved boosters. I open everything but the booster box which I will hold for either my collection or for investing. I'll also grab a case of PC ETB's so i can collect one, open one, and hold 2. Then if any great deals come up that I have room in the budget to buy, either to open or hold, I can take advantage of it.
I pretty much started this month without no knowledge before hand, got 8 pc surging etbs, 2 pc prismatic etbs, 3 prismatic posters, 3 pristmatic binders, and probably will get 2 cases of booster bundles when they drop on other sites.
Yeah if you want to invest in to Pokemon you buy it and leave it sealed and definitely buy a few for you to open and you definitely want to try to get it from the Pokemon center for sure .
My strategy right now is to try and gather up PC ETB's on the cheap locally if I can as the investment part and then anything else I can that's cheap for ripping with the kids.
I'm getting back into Pokemon after being out of it for over 20 years! just completed master sets of base, jungle, fossil, and team rocket! I plan on holding them long term. My question for you is, what is your preferred method on selling your stuff once you're ready?
@@Itwasneveraphasecards Thanks for getting back to me! I was always worried about FB Marketplace because of people selling fake cards before. Makes you lose a lot of trust there but I really like the card show idea, thanks!
Umm of new releases I try to get 1-2 booster box cases, 1 case of pc etb’s for sealed, 1 pc etb to rip and try to get a 10 worthy pc promo (if not I just buy one to grade) then for longer term I try to get my hands on PSA 10 copies of the top 5 cards from each set in the era (this one takes a while)
For surging sparks and prismatic evolutions, are the japanese boxes a good investment? (i dont live in the US, but I can order from pokemon center JP online and have the booster boxes delivered to my mom’s place)
What is the best website or app to preorder and view their “fair market value”? Looking for a site that notifies me when available to pre order / buy in stock
I ordered 6 PC etbs but I've been wondering if the PC might not experience some of the blowback that direct edition comics experienced compared to newsstand editions. Back when direct came out it was the whole thing but as time went on. The rarer comics became the news stand editions as that's not what collectors were getting and collectors made up the bulk of the market that saved comics. Those of us that read the comics bought them from the news stand and packed them away after and then realized they were the more valuable ones. I don't see this happening with surging sparks but when I buy anything it dips so I'm just used to front running potential downward catalysts.
Not to buy anything new u less it’s at the dollar store. Have a budget of 100 when I go buy at dollar store. And open what I get to see if I can make back my money through those cards. But invest in Team rocket when it comes out. I’ll miss out on SP too, don’t mind missing out on that. Wait to see what Pokémon has planned for 30th anniversary. Save an emergency budget in case 2025 has a release after TR set.
Hello, I’m pretty new to the business side of things and hypothetically if I sold all my singles as a lot and my bulk and have almost no inventory there.. but.. I have all Booster Boxes from S/V era (2-6 of each). What’s the wisest way to open and sell? Should i try to stream? I’m totally new to this all. Thanks!
@@Itwasneveraphasecards that’s the plan! I haven’t spent over $100 for any BB so far, including the 2 I have preordered for Sparks. I’m just trying to make some additional income. Maybe I could open one of the sparks boxes and sell the singles? Keep the other sealed until I buy more?

I bought a sleeved case of of surging sparks I think it will be a good hold. Paid 400 for 144 packs. If its a good set its worth it. I think people are going to be disappointed with team rocket. No dark Pokemon announced. I made a huge play from the beginning on the pc etbs from every set of scarlet and violet and its paying off. I buy at least 4 cases of each set even the specialty sets. I like and do buy the booster bundle cases as well though I usually buy the master cases which have 6 boxes of 10 so 60 total booster bundles per case. The best investment I've made so far was my master case of 151 bundles. That thing is going to the moon I've already tripled my money. I pre ordered it for 1400 and its almost 4k now.
Real collector here too. I'm not going into to costo and buying an entire pallet. That's scalping IMO. I just order some cases each set and keep em sealed but I understand where you are coming from
Investing in Pokémon Cards is very easy. As long as you buy under MSRP then you are golden. EVERY set will go up in price as the masses rip open product. The best strategy in my opinion, is to make a great income so you are not heavily concerned about selling your sealed product with the next 10 years. Yes some products will go up faster and higher, but they all will go up in price eventually. Even the sets that you hate, scarcity drives the price at the end of the day.
