You should watch his performance of Gravity from his live album "where the light is". It's one of my favorite live performaces ever and the dvd of this concert is one of the best ever too. John kills playing the guitar.
Great video! I think while this is the essential John Mayer album in terms of his studio work, however I think the live album he did 2 years later called "Where the Light Is" is his best piece of recorded work. He played 3 sets encompassing his entire career (an acoustic set, a blues trio set, and full band) and even has unreleased songs and covers that became some of the most beloved in his discography. It features a lot of the songs on Continuum, which are great on the album but in a live setting these songs really get to pop out. His live band is incredible and Mayer is one of the best guitar players out there today and it really shows. When I think about songs from Continuum, I think about the Where the Light Is versions. Anyways, keep up the great work guys. These videos are great.
Would love to see you guys react to gravity from the “where the light is” album.. it blows the studio version out of the water imo. The whole live album is fantastic.. good stuff guys!!
I am familiar with John Mayer as a popular artist but not too familiar with his songs. Don't know this album so I cannot rate it. Shawn, you do a great job with the research for each album. I wanted to listen to the comments by you guys. In your track by track review, you describe these songs in detail and they sound like they are good well written and produced songs from what you said. I'll have to check out some of your favorites. It appears that Mayer has impressive talents. Shawn, your score of 8.25 is high and Trey, your score of 7.75 is also up in a similar range.
fantastic album still holds up really wellI figured this would be a Vimeo one cuz Johnny tends to get blocked on lots of his Tunes Studio wise..you stop it later on tonight have some dinner at the waffle House bring in my headphones in I'll watch the review on Vimeo. ..Some early stuff not as good for me. Stuff like body is a Wonderland why Georgia why it's okay but not something I'm just going to pull out to listen to if it comes on the radio I'll rock with it. unfortunately the trio sort of fell apart. but what do you got the great Steve Jordan on drums writing songs and the amazing legendary fretless bass man was there I'd like to call Brother the Jaco pastorius pino palladino you have some great in the pocket players on your side. Although vultures and Stop This Train are back-to-back great ones. it's good to see John took his head out of his butt to instead of just trying to be a pretty boy celebrity. like when he was out there banging all them chicks in Hollywood name was all over the place but not about the music. personally I think it took his involvement in the road to Escondido with Eric Clapton and of course pino and Steve getting together realizing he has talent if he uses it and what was really neat was Continuum came out of that when they form the collaboration..which is why the road to Escondido with the last job with JJ Cale and Eric together such a fantastic piece of music another one you guys have to think about reviewing some time to Lake Billy Preston and a whole lot more coarse Billy would have his last dance as album would come to an end. although John has become more blues and artist-based not really about staying out of the spotlight as far as being a idiot which is a good thing. him showing up at Eric Clapton's crossroads concerts a whole lot more you can see him on TH-cam he really has embraced his talent. and he's kind of one of those ones that doesn't care if he gets radio AirPlay anymore but when you see him playing and jamming away he's having a great time. I keep the Continuum CD always in the truck I probably listened to it at least once every couple of months when I pull out a handful of CDs to listen to an alternator around like I do about every week.
I was really curious about what you thought about this one. I was very pleasantly surprised at it. You shared a lot of good info and I think him dating all those girls and being known as a romeo pretty boy really took away from how talented he really is. Stay safe Kev!
He’s great in concert too. Seen him a few different times. Guitar playing is glorious.
Ya very underrated for sure! Hope you are now staying cool!!!
