    What an interestint discussion. Everytime you spoke, I felt illuminated perspectively. I think the biggest issue with Zizek's communication is that he constantly interrupts and he also lacks conscientiousness of our ignoarance, and did not get the reality that you were trying to set up the concept and discussion and questions for the audience. But he dismissed and interrupted like, "yes, of course. I already know."
    I really think this make's Zizek's work so inaccessible.
    Thanks for doing your best, I noticed you were still alive by the end 😂

    • @LostSoulAscension
      @LostSoulAscension 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Even if it wasn't for the audience. Just as a confirmation that you both are on the same page. I honestly can't imagine the struggle of keeping up with someone who's like that in conversations at his caliber of understanding and articulation, plus the speech impediments and accent. It's a feat in itself and you really showed your understanding of him I think and maybe having read his work helped?
      I just bought his book "Living in the End times" which is why I'm trying to understand more.
      I really gather the general philosophy the world is Socrates, Plato, then Kant, Hegel, then Nietzche and Marx.
      Of course this is not the whole history of philosophy so I'm eager to want to understand more and poke holes in this limited consideration of being max/hegel dominant, or what are the benefits of that? Or biases per say in general?

    One thing I really like about Zizek is that despite him being a weird continental Hegelian philosopher, he still takes modern science very seriously and listens to the scientists. That seems to me pretty rare among continental philosophers.

    22:30 this parallels my ex-wife and i when we divorced. i couldnt get any affirmed belief on anything out of her. the bigger irony is she is baptised catholic. for many (like her), religion is just another cultural perspective with material outcomes, and not any metaphysical truth.

    Quantum gravity needs to rediscover a new theory of time. The future has a psychological reality, parallel to gravity, such that the future has a pull, which is not simply the vectors from the past, from the outside, but central to 'spiritual' reality.

    8:50 Hegel would say Holy Spirit which in German would be "heiliger Geist" - a regular expression for German christians. And he was all about the Geist which is usually translated as Spirit. Its interesting that this is where the German and the English language somehow meet. Both say holy ghost or heiiiger Geist. Geist can mean ghost, as well as spirit, as well as mind. No translation captures is fully. Great Conversation.

      “Geist” and “ghost” are obviously cognates. In Swedish we have “gast” as well, which basically refers to the kind of ghost you’re afraid of, although the word is a bit old-fashioned. Well, Swedish, German and English are of course all Germanic languages.

    36:00 Its lowkey just xenophobia and what circulates fascism, so its admirable to reduce that, imo. Because, its, objectively speaking, a self-destructive anti-peaceful type of culture dynamic, like what comes forth from its emergence, is in that manner. And in that sense it could be quite important to solve.
    39:12 Quantum gravity. Is it actually wise, to answer it? Like, what if a quantum gravity bomb gets invented? Is that a good thing? Or, what if the ai and control systems, want to manage humans even more totalitarian? Like, instead of them being stuck on this problem, they'll map it out then humans would be screwed. Right? But maybe, ai, has already figured it out?
    I wonder, do I want to be immortalized if I could infer quantum gravity? Its not essential. The pursuit for pseudo-immortality through others, is still not infinite. And if there is a great filter, then revealing it will certainly end it faster. And thats fine, because, we don't need to know quantum gravity, to solve these social problems. How much of the world do great thinkers change in their lifetime anyways?

      No, I think the whole point is to articulate how precisely how his religious atheism is different from other forms. The point is not an aesthetic add on to secularism but about the possibility of secularism itself.

    • @mcosu1
      @mcosu1 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @buicktothemoon good point. But it seems like his primary idea is that we should REALIZE how the Christ-event was unique, resulted in the death of God as a big other, and left us with the holy spirit as an egalitarian collective. Okay, if I realize that, then what does that mean in practice? Sounds like Secular humanism with Christian ethics

    • @grivza
      @grivza 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@mcosu1Haven't seen the whole interview yet but I don't think it is about ethics, it is about ridding ourselves of this sort of theist atheism, where formally one might be an atheist but still, consciously or otherwise, he retains a sense of a higher order of things. It is about radically realizing our isolation and thus responsibility.

    One should really interrogate themselves when they have no actual proximity to the actual work shaping the world. It is always a problem when you have to rely on others research and all you can do is frame it and construct concepts that have no weight behind them or actual impact. And can't, as such, be falsified.
