Truly one of the greatest women’s matches in women’s tennis history , only wish modern day women’s tennis was even one tenth as good… thanks for the upload

Hana one of the very few players who could really trouble prime Martina

I don't think Hana was too keen on that reporter at the beginning.

The Madison square garden facility could never be sold out today with women’s tennis. 1985 was truly a peak year thanks to Billie Jean King. I wish there was a way to honor King that hasn’t been done . Evert was approached years ago when the USTLA was rebuilding the new stadium . They asked about her feelings about a possible new name for the stadium. Since Chris had the open tennis record of 6 opens her name was brought up as a name. For the stadium, Chris said No, “ you need to name the place the Billie Jean King Center. No one deserved it more than Billie Jean.

Martina was so strong in 83 and up till 84 AO that Martina expected to win, losing just one match in 83, Martina would hit a great volley then stop as if the point was won. Chris and Hana improved their mobility to get to balls and improve their fitness to give Martina a better match. What was Martina’s response “ get set of glasses” as if that was the answer. Then when she lost 86-89 later said Martina was in a funk from too much playing. Truth is graf came on strong and Chris and Hana improved their game. Martina still dominated Chris Hana and Graf until 87FRENCH AND all of 88 onward.

They both have the same positive and negative areas of their game .Both serve and volley well . Martina is more disciplined and thus wins at a way more consistent rate . Hana needs competition to play inspired tennis and once falls behind doesn’t believe she’ll win

I hate that angle. YEC kept relaying match form that perspective for a long time until 2000s, it did ruined some brilliant matches.

Martina had no business. Winning that first set yet she placed doubt in Hana’s game by always hanging in there refusing to lay over. 6 times Hana was 2 points from the set then Martina wins every big point. Martina owned Hana regardless of how well Hana played except for the 85 Open. The difference between Martina and Chris is that Chris’s energy was feminine. Chris felt it had to be her day to play like she believed she’d win against Martina. Chris hung in there better than any player, she could fight back from a huge deficit but she seemed to lose those matches even though she fought ack. Example: 81 Australian Chris came back from 5-1 to 5-5 then lost 7-5, 81 open down a set and 4-2 up in third then lost this way at Wimbledon 78,, Eastborne 78; Martina created her own luck by fighting more obviously- changing the complexion of the end of the match. Chris often could feel that at very end Martina would creep through. Often this happened. Patterns developed. Many of these patterns Chris and Martina had to break through , which they did . Martina raised the bar and it took 3 years for Chris and Hana to improve to give Martina competition. In 19985 first tournament Chris beat Martina signaling the change in quality of womens game. 4 slam events and 3 different winners. Chris was so strong , felt what being number one felt like for the last time. 1985 was the year chris came back, Hana won the Open. Martina was number one for the year by winning one set - the last one at Australian open. It was also the last year until 2000 where Steffi Graf was not a factor in decision for number one.

Wow, what an awful lot of words saying virtually nothing. 😂
I’m not sensing much ‘feminine energy’ from Evert during her career btw. She was ruthless, incredibly competitive, hatchet faced and pretty emotionless out there…all stereotypically masculine attributes. She was more feminine in appearance than many in her era, but even that is hugely exaggerated imo (she was never a looker, just an average tanned blonde).
