  • Have you ever wondered how to turn a design into a multi-layered sign for your laser cutter? Stick with me as I go through an example from image to finished product.
    1. Trace your image
    2. Clean up extra details that won't translate well into a sign
    3. Joining small parts to prevent loss and for easy glue up
    4. Offset outer edges for a backer layer
    5. Group your layers together and separate into different areas of your stock
    6. Cut, Paint and Glue (not shown in this video)

Looks great! Im so glad its not just me that cant figure out which 'weld' i'm supposed to use and just end up opening the boolean assistant!😅😅

hah, yeah. For as long as I've been using LB I still trip over that when I don't want to stop and think through every choice. The boolean assistant is just so convenient. Ctrl + B for the win :)

I never thought about using a tool path to line up the letters. Brilliant idea. Nice tutorial.

Thanks. It was the easiest way I could think of to keep the bends but at the end of the day it comes down to assembly so I guess I could have cut them straight and it wouldn't have mattered much other than making sure they fit.

Thank you for this! I have so many designs I want to make into signs, but I've been hesitant :) Appreciate you!

Only thing that I do different, and this is because I'm bad at lining things up is I etch a faint line of the top layer onto the bottom layer that it will be glued too. Works well with text, especially curved.
Just me though. Love the sign! I'm Team Slytherin all the way!

Excellent suggestion. I actually wanted to do that for the lettering but since this was getting painted I'd actually lose the benefit unless I did a fairly deep engraving. Alternately you can do a fill at just enough power to give you a little pocket for things to rest in. I've done that before on really intricate stuff.

@@thetinkerverse I like that idea, too. I'm going to give that a try.

How did the last layer burn you typed the 90 by 30 opposite . Great video and project

The power of editing. I fixed it before I burned it which was done off-camera. Good catch though!

Great little tutorial! Just getting into laser cutting, have been buying cut files on Etsy, this will help me to create my own. Also, willing to share this lightburn file? My kids would freaking love me if I made this for them. 😊

I might have missed it but what was the size difference between the two layers

    • @thetinkerverse
      @thetinkerverse  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

If you're referring to layers 1 and 2 (backer and everything but the text) I added a 2mm offset to the outside so overall it's 4mm larger all around.

13:43 is the offset for the bottom banner and 14:14 is the offset of the main part. Hope that is what you are asking.

I just saw your first response and that is what I meant, thank you!
