In my home, we all have PC. My older son plays Star Rail and Genshin, my daughter plays Genshin and Roblox. My younger son plays only Roblox. I emulate games mostly on my PC and Handheld. I spent the entire night setting up Launchbox on my handheld with my games running over the network from my PC so I don't have to use any storage space on the handheld. I can also stream with steam. Works out surprisingly well.

I was going to buy a PS5 back in the COVID days. Could not get one. Then I spent an evening pressing F5 on the Steam website to preorder a Steam Deck... I ended up with a Steam Deck in the beginning of 2022. I gave my old gaming PC to my daughter for school, Roblox, Minecraft and Sims - not necessarily in that particular order. ;) Now I am playing my PS games on my Steam Deck!
Since Sony decided to put their games on the PC, I am not going to buy a PS5. I am going to build a new gaming PC in the future.
In the ideal world, Nintendo would be selling their games on PC too. IMHO those games would sell really well on PC. I think they are missing huge market opportunities here.

My brother bought a PS5 specifically for FF16. I'm not sure if consoles are still sold at a loss, but I think Sony's idea is to sell a platform where they're not losing a cut of every sale to Valve or Microsoft. It's probably the reason why the only games that come to multiple platforms from Sony studios are the live service games.

    • @BrotherO4

ps5 started to sell for a profit after a year of released.
console now sell at cost or around that point at Released date now. (ps3 moment was a wake up call where the console cost 800 to make while they sold it for 600. )
Nintendo always sell their shit for high margins day 1. which is why their hardware always much weaker than the competitors.

I've been PC since 1997 but I always preferred computers over consoles (ZX Spectrum, Atari ST, Amiga) but I have still bought consoles since the first playstation and even now having a decent PC I have the Series X and PS5 (albeit not from launch). It might be coming to a point where I don't get the FOMO and be happy just with the PC and spend my cash upgrading that.

Last console I bought was PS4 and I didn't really buy a lot of PS4 games. I'd rather just wait for pc. All the things being held hostage behind subscriptions and being shut down and removed aren't for me. I'm aware that shut downs, lock downs are on pc, too.
I really have been more of a console than pc player, though I played on whatever.

In early 2019 I had bought myself a PS4 just so I could play the first Spiderman. Then I played the last of us remastered, Uncharted. Steam deck wasn't an option at that time and my PC couldn't play new games like red dead redemption 2 and I wanted to play it. When these games started going to steam I felt betrayed and thought I could have spend that money on a new laptop or PC. With the steam deck option I'll gladly buy the few games I got on PS4 on PC. The last one is finally come, Ghost of Tsushima. I loved my experience with the PS4 but I like having ease of access to my entire steam library that I have been adding onto for over a decade.

So I finally decided to install EmuDeck/Emulation Station on my Steam Deck. I was against it thinking I can play many Gen 6 games on my Galaxy Z Flip3. Glad I changed my mind because GameCube and Wii games play flawlessly on it. I didn’t need to tinker with the settings for F-Zero GX and zero audio stutter or crash. While Wii emulation is perfect on the Steam Deck thanks to the touchpads acting like a mousepad for a pointer.
There is a bit of a learning curve. Installing EmuDeck/Emulation Station isn’t easy peasy like what I did on Android. I had to get used to using the Steam Deck in desktop mode and typing from it. And Linux doesn’t play nice with Windows or Mac. I couldn’t transfer my ROMs onto it that I ended up manually downloading every ROM instead and then unzipping it which takes up a lot more time.
I tried taking out my microSD and putting it into an SD converter and my MacBook Air still couldn’t read the files from it. Let’s just say, emulation on Steam Deck still has quirks you will need to be prepared for. I decided that I only want to emulate 7 platforms. I can always play my Gen 3 & 4, PS1, PSP, and a few PS2 ports on my Vita.
    Here are the seven -
    Jaguar
    Saturn
    Arcade (MAME)
    PlayStation 2
    Xbox
    GameCube
    Wii
I don’t need Dreamcast, PSP, or PS3. I can’t find a game I want to play on the Wii U as I already own a Switch Lite. I came to realize that the original Wii is pretty awesome and I underrated it all this time. I have as many games I want to play on it as the GameCube. And Wii is a souped up GameCube as it did play those GC games.
It’s weird playing Super Mario World on a Steam Deck with a 7”/720p display and looking blown up like a digital zoom where you can see the jaggies from every sprite. I’ll leave the Super NES games and most games prior to Gen 6 on smaller devices with smaller screens and lower resolution.
I can always play Dreamcast on one of my smartphones. Reason being is I prefer Redream over Flycast but I want Redream on Emulation Station but it cannot open from there. Below are all my ROMs for each system while I decided to delete all the Super NES, PS1, Dreamcast, and PSP games since they’re better played mostly on smaller Sony handhelds.
    *Jaguar* (3)
    Atari Karts
    NBA Jam Tournament Edition
    Rayman
    *GameCube* (10)
    F-Zero GX
    Mario Kart: Double Dash!!
    NBA Street Vol. 2
    Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
    Sonic Riders
    Star Fox Adventures
    Super Mario Sunshine
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
    Wario World
    *Wii* (10)
Back to the Future: The Game
    Donkey Kong Country Returns
    Kirby’s Adventure Wii
    Klonoa
    Mario Kart Wii
    New Super Mario Bros. Wii
    Sonic & SEGA All-Stars Racing
    Sonic Colours
    Super Mario Galaxy
    Super Mario Galaxy 2
Kirby’s Adventure Wii is also known as Kirby’s Return to Dreamland but I decided to spell the former to match the box art like spelling Sonic Colours with a “u” in colors since the box art is the PAL one. Mario Kart Wii is growing on me and it plays much better on the Deck than my Flip3, but I still prefer Double Dash more.
I tried playing Skyward Sword but it plays too awkwardly for the Wii version. Probably why I stuck with the GCN version of Twilight Princess even though I originally beat the Wii one. I can always get the Wii U/Switch version of Skyward Sword. I’m not a diehard Zelda fan, so I don’t care if I never ever play Skyward Sword or Tears of the Kingdom in my life. Breath of the Wild put me to sleep.
While I don’t really care about Zelda games and always find their stories and characters way too bland, I will say Nintendo remains the GOAT at making games. Think about the Wii. We keep talking about GameCube emulation but the Wii has a very underrated library. Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 are superior to Mario Sunshine. And GameCube never had a great 2D platformer that Donkey Kong Country Returns and New SMB Wii are.
The only reason why I prefer the GameCube even though the Wii is backwards compatible to it, is because GameCube has F-Zero GX, Mario Kart: Double Dash!!, and my favorite game of Gen 6 in NBA Street Vol. 2. All three of those games are also found on my Z Flip3 and all would be in my top 10 favs among all Gen 6 games. But the Wii is awesome. It’s better to emulate Wii on a Steam Deck than ROG Ally thanks to the touchpads.
I love and hate Nintendo, but I have to admit that they have the most replayable libraries. I may need to reevaluate my console rankings and may put GameCube and Wii over Dreamcast and PS2. I don’t really have the urge to play PS2 games. I always found their early games looking muddy. Wasn’t bright and beautiful as DC and GC. And Sega is very arcade-y. Many DC games have very shallow gameplay which includes Sonic games.
Nintendo is always the one I go back to except for their Nintendo 64. I think that’s my least favorite home console from them. I’ll play NFL Blitz and that’s it. Don’t care for Mario Kart 64. Beaten Super Mario 64 twice but never really cared for it. Technology was limited circa mid 90s and thought some levels didn’t look finished. Sunshine was prettier but had awkward F.L.U.D gameplay. Galaxy 1 and 2 is when Nintendo got 3D Mario right.
I don’t emulate a lot of handheld games except Ridge Racer 2004 for PSP. You can just play them on the actual handheld it was made for. I always found handheld games as the Walmart version of a port. Remember Mortal Kombat on the Game Boy and Game Gear? Yuck. I want the bigger budgets coming from home consoles. I have no interest emulating Switch games on a Steam Deck when I have a Switch Lite to play those games.
It’s weird how PlayStation is my favorite gaming brand but I don’t have the urge to replay many of their games. I love AC4: Black Flag but I will admit this style of modern gaming from Gen 7 can feel redundant and even complicated with all the different menu screens I have to look at.
Nintendo uses cartoony graphics which gives them a timeless look while adding cheerful, charming, or soothing music. They act like Apple as a corporation but they still want to be like Disney by appealing to everyone of all ages. I’m 43 and my favorite genres are racing and 2D platformers and Nintendo caters to me with Mario Kart and 2D Super Mario.
    1. Vita
    2. Deck
    3. Switch
    4. PSP
    5. PS1
    6. GameCube
    7. Wii
    8. Dreamcast
    9. PS2
    10. Super NES
    11. Genesis
Time to work on my arcade, Saturn, PS2, and Xbox libraries where I need a BIOS and a couple other things for the Xbox.
    *Arcade*
    Mortal Kombat
    Mortal Kombat II
    NBA Jam
    Street Fighter II Champion Edition
    Super Street Fighter II
    Tekken 3
    Tekken Tag Tournament
^ I have over 50+ MAME ROMs everything from The Simpsons, X-Men, TMNT to every Fatal Fury, The King of the Fighters, Samurai Shodown, and Metal Slug games. But I decided to keep it minimum. Games I want to replay. I didn’t really play those Sega Model 2/3/NAOMI arcade games except the first Daytona USA.
    *Saturn*
    Astal
    Christmas Nights
    Keio Flying Squadron 2
    Nights into Dreams
    Super Tempo
    Tryrush Deppy
    *PlayStation* *2*
    Final Fantasy X
    God of War
    God of War II
    Gran Turismo 3
    Gran Turismo 4
Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
    Tekken 4
    Tekken 5
    Tekken Tag Tournament

Great show again guys 👏 with regards to the car licensing, I guess as those games are sold as driving simulators it allows us mere mortals the chance to drive that Ferrari Zib-Zab that we'll never be able to in real life, and just adds to the experience. As long as those people who already bought the game can still download it I don't see an issue, although I'm not sure if that is the case

43:00, I have to interject here; I can’t say for the Just Dance or Guitar Hero players, but for sim racing games like Gran Turismo or Forza Motorsport, those games has to have real cars. You can’t say the game is a sim racing game if it doesn’t have real cars on it. People play sim racing games to “drive” those real cars, this is the entire point of sim racing, it’s the “cheap” getaway into the real world racing scene (as real as it can get lol).
Of course, as you’ve said, this brings in another problem into the mix, where the licenses for those cars can expire and the game has to be taken down because of that. This is a real problem and I do agree with what you said there about this, but the issue is a bit more nuanced than just “don’t put real cars in it then”, because that’s kinda like the point of sim racing. Using these cars in these games means you have to honor the car manufacturers (the people that owned the car’s design), and the license will have to be renewed no matter what, not renewing the license and still selling the game is a copyright issue.

Daily Legion Go user here! I ended up selling my Steam Deck when I got the Go. It’s my favorite tech device right now!
    Pros for me:
    1. More performance
    2. Bigger screen
    3. It’s a much nicer experience using touch to navigate vs how it feels on steam deck.
    4. Playing in table top mode
    5. Using it with my eGPU
    6. Handheld mode is
    comfortable for me.
    7. I like how most everything “just works” without having to jump through some hoops
    Cons:
    1. Not as comfortable as Steam deck
    2. Battery life suffers at times.

I’m more than happy to wait 1 year possibly 2 to be able to buy a game on Steam, unless it’s something like CoD with annual releases where the majority of the player base will be gone the moment the next game comes out.
I waited for the Mechwarrior 5 Epic Games exclusivity to end so I could buy it on Steam and got to buy the edition with all the dlc’s for only $35 and there’s also the perks of most of the bugs being fixed and there being ample TH-cam videos out in case I want to check those out.

Remake vs Rebirth Japanese sales also represent two different economic situations in Japan.
The Yen has crashed vs USD from .0097 in Jan '21 to .0068 March '24. That's a 30% drop which is completely life altering for most in Japan.
Plenty of Japanese gamers simply can't afford a PS5.

One thing about PS5 to PC ports is that they have no consistent timeline. Some come relatively soon, and others not. I wonder if that’s intentional on Sony’s part. If consumers can’t predict when a PS5 game will come to PC, are they less likely to wait for that port?

  • @rfischer1984

I won't lie, I havent bought it because I want to wait til it comes out on PC. I want to be able to take it with me on either a steam deck or legion go. When you have kids, it is hard to play on the ps5 because, even though my kids has minecraft on his switch, and his tablet. He still wants to play it on the ps5, especially if I turn it on. I know there is chiaki and stuff like that but it doesnt always play smoothly and I cant take it with me when i leave the home or go on vacation. When you get older with kids it becomes more about convenience. Especially to me.

I love my Steam Deck but when a game releases first on PS5 that I REALLY want to play I don’t know when it’ll release on PC, so I buy the PS5 version. You mention FF VII Intergrade which I own on PS5 so naturally I wanted to play Rebirth on the same platform. Final Fantasy XVI? That was ages ago as was Ghost of Tsushima, Horizon Forbidden West etc. Life’s too short to wait on a wing and a prayer.
Going forward, the next games I’ll be picking up are Rise of the Ronin and Stellar Blade. The latter won’t come to PC according to the studio head and I don’t know when RotR is coming. I can play them on release on my living room OLED and if I want to play them on my Steam Deck I can just remote play them from the PS5.

More realistic racing games do not sell nearly as well if they don't have licensed cars in them, it's been that way for a really long time. We want to drive our favorite cars on our favorite real tracks, that's why games like Gran Turismo and Forza have been so popular over the years. It's not just the racing, it's the cars and locations too. Fortunately car manufacturers aren't nearly as crazy about removing licenses from their old cars as the music industry is so I don't foresee it becoming a big issue anyway.

I kind of feel like getting some emulators is going to be like finding roms. They'll still be out there, we'll just have to search a bit for them. This whole situation has made me realize it's almost always better to sideload these apps. If you have the APK and keep a backup, nobody can take it away, but if you just get it from the Play Store, they can take it down at any time.

Get a gaming mini keyboard like a razer Tartarus, it will make the transition so much easier. You used to be able to get keyboards like the merc (my all time favourite keyboard), it was cheap and that gaming area was just near ergonomically perfect, but since keyboard manufacturers only want to make generic slab keyboards now, its not an option sadly so the separate gaming programable keyboard is the only option. The comfort level is a real game changer alone before you even take into account the flexibility.
Many overlook comfort when playing and look more at function and when you are making a change like this, that comfort level is a big help as its pretty easy to just say screw it am going back to what I used before when you have that gaming cramp, but if you are comfortable all the way through so that you are relaxed and have no uncomfortable side effects (which wear off once you get used it but they aren't nice at the start and many of us for get that, lol its like wanting another puppy but you forgot about puppy teeth and chewing everything :D), you are more likely to stick to it and enjoy it, and potentially do even better with it than you otherwise would have.

I've played online games before. Back in the day I played _Team Fortress._ I played some _Everquest._ I played a lot more _Dark Age of Camelot._ Finally, I played really a lot of _World of Warcraft._ In the end, my brothers and I quit _WoW_ because it took up too much time, and we have a real life. I can't do that again. So a game like _Team Fortress_ I might play again, but I'm not investing in another time sink like _WoW._

I'm genuinely excited for the updated PC handhelds this year. I love my Steam Deck OLED but I'm ngl the lack of windows has given me a bit of buyers remorse. I tried the Legion GO at Microcenter the other day and I actually like the bigger screen and the overall feel holding it. I will admit I hope the update the button placement on the right controller because it definately feels awkward. I'm actually thinking of getting an eGPU for either whether it's an updated XG mobile for an Ally 2 or whatever enclosure I can get for the Legion GO. While I'll always have a dedicated desktop A PC handheld eGPU combo might become my primary gaming rig especially if the Legion Go 2 comes out with better controllers.

It doesn't necessarily mean ALL platforms, but it means on multiple platforms simultaneously.
So if a PS5 game comes out on 4/20/23 on PS5 and PC, but not Xbox, the PC release would say "day and date" signifying that the PC release gets the game on launch, along with PS5.

TBH, until last generation, I've spent my entire life not having access to consoles during the current generation, and then not playing games upon release. Then once I could have access, there was little-to-no reason to play games upon release because the kinds I like (or used to like - looking at you Bethesda) are way too buggy on release. So if I want to play something on PC, I'm fine with waiting - (a) I have a massive back catalog, (b) I like gaming on Switch - so clearly I'm comfortable with waiting a generation or waiting for a sale, (c) I love retro games and lean towards those, and (d) the games I primarily play on PC are complicated strategy games. I do give props to Square Enix for finding out how to milk another $210 out of fans of a game that want to play a remake of a game that was $50 on release in 1997.

    • @washuai
      @washuai 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

There's a major difference between "modernisms" in a medieval fantasy setting and "modernisms" in a post apocalyptic series ostensibly occurring in our future.
It's not like they had muskets, in the Rings of Sleep Induction.
Tolkien does get as recent as 2017, but I guess one can try and pigeon hole it to 1955 trilogy mindframe, if it suits their agenda.
Fallout is 1997. Fallout 3 of 2008 diverged quite a bit and it's pretty damned modern. More importantly, it's going to tie in heavily with Fallout 5, which hasn't even released yet.
I highly suspect you mean something different by "modernisms". To which, I wonder just how much you actually know Fallout games, Bethesda or Microsoft. I'm sure there's people of widely varying ideology, politics, etc that made the games. It's not really hard to see who made what where, to know what general direction that wind blows. If it stays more true to the game, it will show faults with all factions and not bog down with petty BS that are not relevant to survival.
The larger issue was in spite of that budget Rings couldn't be bothered to take the trouble to stick within the Tolkien world and reality, nor develop a story or characters that were memorable, rootable. The show was fine as a pretty fall asleep and forget it, bedtime story, but it was very poor AU fanfic. I do how fallout is better than that.
I haven't watched Bridgerton, but I guess there are audiences that don't mind something wildly implausible historically.
I made it thru Dickinson, in spite of the immersion breaking modernisms, historical liberties and fantasy. I am glad there are 3 seasons of it.

Turning on your PC and it going straight into Steam Big picture Mode with no desktop to take you out of the console like experience, it really feels different than booting up Windows just to have steam pop up a few seconds later. And being able to use decky and all the plugins to customize the experience really sets it apart

So in my opinion, keyboard and mouse can be better, but it really depends on the game. For a sidescroller like old Mario, something like an 8bit do pro 2 is just as good as keyboard and mouse. For games where aiming is important, keyboard and mouse is better. But for games that rely on analog movement, controller is better. So... Stealth games, Racing games, stuff like that.

  • @roo3005

Im probably in the minority but I can't ever imagine a game being released which would make me handover the money to buy a console. I've not had one since the PS3/360 generation, and as Cary said there are so many PC games available either free or that I could buy with that money instead. Now that PC ports are becoming more common you would think the developers would want to make it available for the most users possible as soon as possible to make the most of the marketing. I guess the only reason for the exclusivity initially must be that the developers take a larger percentage of those sales compared to when it comes to PC. I assume they then analyse the sales drop off to make a call when/if to release on PC, and likely why they don't give that 6 months or 2 year timeline, to prevent the backlash when they don't deliver.

  • @meh78336
    @meh78336 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

The other problem with making people wait for multi platform is the launch buzz wears off, and the release has to be carefully timed so it doesn't get wiped out by the latest thing. I am lucky in that financially I am doing ok, but most people can afford only maybe a game a month or less with that £70 target price Sony and co want, so releasing games that are yesterdays news can be damaging. I think Sony have made a good choice on pricing though so far for PC, as I am guessing they know this, and that releasing a game that isn't full price on their consoles by the time of the PC launch, is not going to sell well at that price along with lack of buzz.
Day one makes more sense, keep some cosmetics and the like for your console to get that feeling of exclusivity still, but day one releases will make more money and they get the hype and people can lie to themselves that its worth the OTT pricing as its just launched, so they get the whales they loose with much later releases. The rest of us can wait for 3rd party keys or steam sales to get them, as i have no doubt they make good money that way as well as I suspect even with the likes of a steam/epic/gog cut, the offloading of hosting and the like, will cover it.
