    That's a dandy of a hellgrammite. I bet it's a fish catching machine. Thank you for these videos. For a newcomer like me, they are great!!

      @@TheFlymanJim you know I am curious... what do you know about using Cat undercoat/shed as dubbing. I've seen a few videos but not information about wet or dry fly and how much it sinks etc.

    Great video and instruction Jim. That is one big ugly bug, will have to give that one a try.

    Boy, that’s quite a beastie!
    I like to mix a bit of ice dub with the roving. It helps to bind it together a little bit better.
    And I wonder if the angular bends in the hook would help this pattern twist and turn in Stillwater?
    Let it sink near the bottom, give it some sharp strips so it rises up and let it twist intern before sinking back down. Do you think that would work?

      I agree it will twist and turn when striped.

    That is one nasty looking fly, but since it’s one nasty looking insect, it’s certainly appropriate. Nice job.

    Like the fly. Any reason you can't use wool yarn instead of wool dubbing?

    • @TheFlymanJim
      @TheFlymanJim  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No reason I just have the wool roving. Yarn will work just remember to use your dubbing teaser on it when done.
