Excellent choice on upgrades. I have pretty much the exact same setup. One recommendation to help with flat tires. I mounted spools on the swingarm (left and right side) to use with a stand I use for chain maintenance. For travel use a lightweight adjustable support bar under the right spool to hold the back wheel off the ground while changing the tire. I also mounted a single spool on the front of the skid plate (same one as yours) so it will hold up the front wheel off of the ground while changing the front tire. Also take along a strap to strap you bike to a tree, pole, fence, etc... while removing tires to stabilize it and one to hold the front brake lever when removing the rear tire.

    Very cool.
I'm in the process of preparing for the same route. I like your setup and the way you present your videos. Following you now and look forward to your big adventure.

GPS location couldn’t have been better! The armor and rack system look great 👍

Thanks! The GPS just clears the dash - I'm pleased with the way it turned out!

    That's a nice fit out.
    Spot Lights?
    Extra Fuel?
Full rig run down would be a good Vid.
    Kudos.

I just love all that stuff. My 390 is fitted out similarly, but came with crash bars. I'll wait to break a mirror before I get new ones, though I got Barkbusters. Definitely needs replacement radiator cover & bash plate. My "GPS" is my former waterproof Android phone on a wireless charging mount, served from my battery, leaving the 12v socket open. Replaced the foot pegs (and brake lever) similarly but got folding ones; I broke a non-folding replacement in a fall earlier. Wider side-stand base, chain guard (didn't need to pull the chain to mount my 3 part version). Got a 23mm (7/8") bar riser & didn't need to replace the clutch cable. Lots of luggage choices. I managed to mount my Tusk racks using my OEM side bars, an advantage.
I didn't see you add a headlight protector; I recommend it. They can be perforated aluminum or full cover plastic (my choice). Strongly recommend you install a quality after-market chain since you're traveling far; the OEM is known to stretch easily over the first several thousand Km. If you want more low-speed torque, you might change the front sprocket to 14-tooth (from 15). Don't need to change chain links for this. You'll notice the difference. You might want a windshield extension to divert wind at your head.
Looking forward to seeing how all this works for you!

Thanks for the tips! Will look into the headlight protector. As for the chain, I will probably get either the DID Xring 520ERVT or the 520VX3. The windshield extension is a possibility - the stock windshield directs the wind right at my face. The downside is that I will be filming and want to avoid having the windshield take up a large portion of the view.

I would love to see everything you packed. It would have been nice if you did a video of everything you had laid out. Maybe you did?

Thanks for the suggestion! I will need to make a video showing all the stuff I packed. Maybe after having traveled a while, to see what works out and what doesn't.

Cool! I rode a KTM 690 from Portland to Ushuaia Argentina in 2016. Engine failed (rocker arm bearing) in Antofagasta Chile but I was able to fix it in a hotel parking lot.

That mosko moto stuff is super expensive. I've got their nomax tank bag, quality bit of kit.
Never bothered replacing mirrors or handguards on mine. Never used a satnav, so massive difference there.
The R.E. clutch cable might fit, but I went with an aftermarket 1" longer super light pull cable on mine, 1 finger clutch.
    Enjoy your refitted bike.

Thanks, I'm really enjoying it so far! I agree, the Mosko Moto luggage is expensive but it's proven to work. I didn't want to experiment with other more affordable brands that might fail along the way, although I'm sure that there are plenty of good ones that hold up fine.
As for hand-guards, I've put them on almost every bike that I've had, but this is the first time I replace the mirrors. I've broken a number of mirrors over the years and would just replace them, but on this trip I want to avoid that.
As for using a GPS, I've been off-road racing (in buggies) with them for about 20 years and a GPS is definitely something that I like to have with me, especially on a long trip like this one.
The Royal Enfield Himalayan clutch cable is a couple of inches longer, was easy to install and has been working fine.
Thanks for watching the video and stay tuned for my trip!

@@BajaMoose Aye, the mosko moto kit is nigh on indestructible.
I usually put acerbis storm handguards on my bikes, but havent bothered with the 390.
Never had an aftermarket mirror in over 40 years of owning bikes ;) (Currently right hand mirror is cracked ;)
GL with the R.E. part, I've had nightmares with that manufacturer in the past , wouldnt give them another penny.

    • @BajaMoose

That's what I hear about the Mosko Moto stuff, that it lasts a long time and that they find a way to get replacement parts to you if you end up needing them.
As for broken/cracked/bent mirrors, have had plenty of those. Hopefully these will avoid that problem.
Regarding the clutch cable, it looked like it was decent quality and I haven't had any issues with it. Just hope it continues working okay.

Very cool to watch you prep your bike from stock to trans-continental, all in one go. I've got a major trip planned for the summer as well (FL-CA), and even though I'm doing the prep work bit by bit as things arrive, it still seems endless sometimes. I can't imagine doing it all at once.
When will the trip start? Or has it already started? I'm pretty stoked to follow along. Thanks for sharing!

    • @BajaMoose

Thanks for watching! In the video it does look quick and easy, but it did take me a while and did have a few challenges and delays.
For example, the clutch cable. I was able to re-route the stock cable and was able to ride my bike, but definitely needed a longer cable. My first stop was the KTM dealer, but they didn't have any that were longer. Then I got online and did some research and found out about the Royal Enfield Himalayan cable that was a bit longer. I visited 3 Royal Enfield dealers in Guadalajara before finding one that had it in stock. I forgot to film the installation, but that was the easy part, taking me about 10 minutes to replace the stock one.
Anyway, it's all part of the journey!

I just bought a '24 390 ADV and excited to follow you on your trip. Curious if you've considered a larger windscreen, and cruise control? Safe travels.

    • @BajaMoose
      @BajaMoose  16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

The stock windscreen directs the wind right into my face, but I'm reluctant to install a taller one because it gets in the way for recording my videos, so I will probably just put up with the wind. As for cruise control, probably not any time soon.
