Questions:1 If suffering arises from desire, is the desire to end suffering itself a form of suffering? 2, If enlightenment is the cessation of seeking, can the desire to cease seeking be the barrier that prevents it? Thank you

(Thanks as always for answering my questions and doing these Q&As every week. I'm very grateful, as I am sure are others).
My questions for your next Q&A:
You always end your Q&As with 'Be happy'. Is it possible to induce such a mental state? If so, how? If it is possible then why don't most people do it?
    Many thanks,
    Romeo

The noble inqiury into crack was mostly rhetorical and in service of mocking weird left hand path types in the west, but the entire response is going in my secret Panno folder. A classic really.

I have removed one of my previous questions to replace it with this because I find it more interesting, I have read about a procedure in which Burmese monks attempt to make themselves immortal. It involves being sealed into a wooden coffin alive and entering meditation. After a predetermined time the coffin is opened and if the body is gone the monk has been fully successful, ashin-htwet, or one who ‘exits alive. If the body is there but incorruptible then it is partly successful, athay-htwet or one who ‘exits through death. If upon opening the coffin the body is there and rotting like an ordinary body the person has been unsuccessful and has died a mortal like a regular human. Have you encountered or heard about this practice in Burma and would this person be considered enlightened? It appears that it might be possible to escape the wheel of rebirth without becoming enlightened?

1.) Would you agree that humor is a kind of ugliness with limited or no power to disgust?
2.) Do you feel that there is such a thing as “Irony poisoning”?
It is the phenomena of being so liberal and accepting of stupidity or ridiculousness that ones character or principles are compromised, essentially being entrenched in a jesting sentiment that one gets lost.
    3.) Can stupidity be recreational?
I once remember having sordid words with a coworker where he responded to my accusation of idiocy with: “only on Sundays”, and I took that to heart, finding it supremely amusing. I feel as if its perhaps the case that we could be so dumb that our activities might be considered like a craft to a fortunate witness.

Q1. In your translation of Aṭṭhakavagga 11.13 it says that he for whom form has become void has no perception of perception and no perception of non-perception, and after that it goes on to say that he is not without perception and then it goes further and says that yet he has no perception of “void.” I remember when I read it I couldn't make head nor tails of this. Please explain.
(Here is what I interpret of it: He who has attained to voidness of form 1. has no perception of either perception or non-perception and 2. this does not mean he is without perception and 3. neither does it mean that he has perception of this attained void.... But all of that together would imply he has perception of some strange other thing that has no form (i.e. is without stimulation, going by the previous verses) and yet can be perceived (without stimulation)).
Q2. Did the Aṭṭhakavagga and archaic Buddhism influence your decision to stop being a Theravada bikkhu?
Q3. What do you do for fun besides work on your aquarium?

Mantra, Yantra and Tantra. The first two are easy to categories but I have failed to get a grasp of what exactly Tantra is because it appears to be everything, even meditating on your chakras is tantric meditation, magic spells is tantric, sex is tantric, working with gods or visualisation of oneself as a god is tantric, those people who live in graveyards are also tantrics

I've started thinking that Sasana existed only for 500 years probably. But there was no number of years mentioned in any early Suttas. Maybe they corrupted Bhikkhus erased it, if there really were numbers anywhere. After living among Bhikkhus in Burma, and Thailand, I've lost faith in theravada bhikkhus. I already know how mahayana monks are. They are even worse. Mostly. So I guess becoming bhikkhu to get englightened would be naive thing to do these days,. To learn Dhamma, internet is being enough nowadays. For those who lives in solitude and learning Dhamma with wisdom will get enlightened, in my opinion. What do you think of Sasana and original Buddha's teachings? And please tell me the name of your monastery with CAVE that you dwelt for 10 years. I wanna stay there for some time. Pls spell it..

You mention a difference in kamma from someone pushing a button vs someone stabbing someone (both acting with the intention to kill). Does this mean, that kamma is not specifically about what is right and wrong, but more to do with what the mental state is, regardless if the intention is the same? (When I say the intention is the same, I mean, they both have the base intention to kill, but perhaps there’s a difference in the motivation and reason behind that intention). For example, the person stabbing someone on a battle field replaying that event in their mind vs the person shielded from the visual impact of their actions. Also, taking into consideration, that people react to things differently depending on upbringing and other factors, like levels of spiritual attainments. So, if an ariya kills (assuming they can), there would be less of a kammic consequence than if a non ariya kills.

Does an ariya’s equanimity kamma (kamma that ends kamma) protect them from harm whilst on the eightfold path to arahantship? Thanks for your response regarding arahants being in fourth jhana. I was thinking that the only thing preventing jhanas were attachments to sankharas, but it makes sense that the ripples on the lake, whether clung to or not, would disturb the stillness of the mind.

Greetings Panno! What did the Buddha proclaim about energy? What we know about energy is that it is neither created or destroyed it just is. Its pretty clear that energy is in and out of all things including us and is a constant therefore perhaps, Permanent? Can we also assume that Nibanna is also just an unmanifestation of energy or perhaps energy itself? Ty.
Happy Holidays and all the very best in the NewYear!

    1) Question, there is a temple nearby (I'm in the US btw) that I don't go to, but my friend who's a sheriff informed of seeing monks in a courthouse to settle a dispute over property lines so that that temple can start expanding with a structure that might be on the neighbor's property. I thought monks weren't allowed to be involved with court things and that the property line dispute should be handled by the trustees and kappiyas. Is this a case of how it's not possible to adhere to Vinaya in this western, modern day-and-age, as the courts need a name/representative to have a court case?
2 & 3) What is the ethics of the case where a temple resells or "pūjā" (pronounce bou xā in Lao and Thai) Saṅghadāna that monks can't use and give the OK reasoning of the reselling or pūjā as "to help pay for the utility bills." And the devotees are just trying to help collect the "donations". I'm sure the volunteers don't incur negative kamma, but how does it affect the Saṅgha of monks?
Thank you for your time, and I'm looking forward to checking out your book that you referred me to. Much appreciated for answering my first set of questions.
