    Look carefully at the video around 2.30 minutes at the two people removing arrows from the targets after the first end. The person on the right attending to target '2' uses correct form in grabbing the front of the arrow closest to the target boss with one hand whilst bracing against the boss with the other. This is a controlled method of withdrawal in order to prevent the arrow being bent.
    In contrast the person attending to target '1' grabs the arrows two handed towards the centre of the shaft. This greatly increases the risk of torque to the arrow.
    These are wooden arrows and having shot both (American) Longbow and English Longbow, I know how easily they can be bent from true and damaged. The method displayed by the person attending to target '1' would have me wincing at club level, but this is an international tournament and the people should be trained accordingly.

      as someone who has also shot both. this depends greatly on what they are sticking in. if its wedged in wood then yes you could wreck the arrow. If its a foam target this is unlikely. more likely to get shot variance from form issues than arrow issues... if they are properly tuned.

      Could that contributed to his lower scoring towards the end? I've heard wood arrows are sensitive and could easily lose their straightness if not handled properly.

    Wish Olympic archery was like this. I’ve got nothing against modern materials; take off the sights, clicker and stabilisers from a modern bow and an archer from centuries ago would still recognise it as a bow and be very skilful with it. The sights and clicker in particular on modern Olympic bows really change the discipline into something much more considered and about aiming than historical archery.

    • @kev3d
      @kev3d 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Quite right. I want to see a bow of yew or birch, a suitable string, and that's it. Pure archery which requires strength and finesse and aim and patience, all to a higher degree than what these carbon fiber, accessorized bows require.

      It's a sport, it needs optimization for its own extreme purpose! Few things you need to consider:
      1. Any sport can theoretically be featured at the Olympics, in practice, why it's not there is more likely because of the cost of all that entails to facilitate that one sport or its sub-categories, NOT PERCEPTION!
      2. The NBA is the most prestigeous competition for basketball, not the Olympics, so any other sport or subcategories of it should have its own events that pinnaclize the highest skill level of that one discipline, instead of seeing it as not being in the Olympics means ill/under-perceived!

      @@kev3d Ever shot any of those accessorized bows? Ever want to put an arrow in a ring the size of a CD player at 70 meters away? You can rant on about your "pure archery" bias all you want but at the end of the day, you are merely close-minded to whatever seemingly unpleasant that meets your eyes! I suggest you try shooting in multiple disciplines of archery so you can experience what strength, finesse, aim, patience and whatever virtues you so mistakenly deemed as missing are even more valued!

    Looking all this shots, what I found that both of archers release is very static, no proper follow through. It's definitely a sign of collapsing. The release should be dybamic I don't know why a lot of trad archers do that. Modern target bow may have sight, stabilizer, clicker etc, but the shot fundamental is always the same. No offence, but I think this archers could shoot better with a proper release.

      Both appear to be laminated pyramid flatbows. Most likely backed with fiberglass with wood cores. The Pyramid width taper of the limb gives the bow the most efficiency and speed possible. Probably using Fast Flight strings with reinforced limb tips as well.

    • @mspainthero
      @mspainthero 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      There's often some confusion, the world archery definition of a longbow is any bow where the string does not touch the limbs at any point when strung. There's also a small restriction in how short the bow can be but I can't remember off the top of my head. Commonly many people call them American Flatbows. It certainly isn't very long though. This is obviously different to the English definition of a Longbow which includes the D shaped section and horn nocks etc. The English longbow however is not a recognised style in WA competitions, both target and field.

    Longbow has no shelf so the Archers Paradox comes into play and in England they shoot at 70m outside on a 120cm full target face (1 - 10 and 10+).
    Barebow/Recurve @ 50m.
    Compound @ 70m.
