This relationship developed so naturally and beautifully. I love how under all their flirting, they were always very serious about caring for each other. You'd think they were just super attracted to each other, but they are actually more protective, supportive and caring than their other spouses ever were.
I think the writing for their relationship is underrated. I see now soooo many writers mess it up, go back and forth, they just do it completely wrong. this was truly natural, special, and felt super real. And so many fans did not know if they would ever even go there, so when they did, looking back I really can appreciate now how perfectly the writers did their slow burn!
SLOW BURN IS THE BEST WAY TO TELL A STORY, RATHER IT'S A FRIENDSHIP, FAMILY, OR, ESPECIALLY, A LOVE STORY. I'M PLEASED HOW THE WRITERS DID A SLOW BURN WITH MIDGE AND LENNY...LOVED IT.

But also Lenny needed Midge in a whole other way. Almost like for his own survival. You know can tell even though their relationship is beautiful. There's instability. We get that from his whole speech after be wakes up to the kids and the grandparents and he freaks out about it. Clearly midge can handle it. But he can't.

I think I’m in love with this pair. It’s so rare I’m media to see a man respect a woman’s work and admire her before falling for each other. Even after they sleep together Lenny is laser focused on getting Midge to see her career and potential more clearly. He sees her not just as a woman but first as a peer. Thats so dreamy to me
The line at the end where he says he says he had about 5 minutes to help her before he got thrown out says everything.
I love this show and I loved when they got together, it was just so perfect my god I love it
I also love how their quality of being funnt represents their dignity and independence. When they're slow dancing they can't think of anything funny because they're both being very vulnerable, and when Midge asks him to never forget she is funny, she means she wants him to respect her as her own strong person even after they sleep together

Of all the dialogue and connection between these characters throughout the show, Lenny’s final line in season 4 is the most impactful and powerful, “If you blow this, Midge, I swear… It will break my f*cking heart” truly shows that Lenny sees the potential and greatness in Midge, almost like he’s more concerned for her career than his. Magnificent writing 👏👏👏

one of my favourite things about these two as a pairing is that you can tell the writers never intended for lenny to be a love interest or for this pairing to happen romantically. they've openly said that they cast luke intending him to be in the pilot and nothing else but he was too good and his chemistry was too strong with rachel that they eventually kept having him show up and in doing so, they've written a relationship with lenny and midge that is first and foremost based on mutual respect and admiration for each other. it's not just physical attraction even though there's clearly that too but it truly is a genuine friendship first. also i'm going to need luke kirby cast as a leading man in all of the things but specifically in some romance movies. the man has IT (talent, charm and most importantly the ability to look at their scene partner like he genuinely adores and thinks the world of them).

Really loved the carneige hall scene even more for showing that although their relationship has developed romantically, at their core they are everything you said...always there for each other, showing up to support each other when they need it and knowing what the other needs and giving them a reality check. Love them so much!!
The writers know what they are doing. They were always meant to have sexual tension since he is the one that truly "gets her." Like with Luke and Lorelei, but if they get together too soon it becomes boring for the character and plot of the show.

The first scene these two had together, the chemistry was sizzling! So glad things took the direction they did. And the emotion in that last line of the season? That alone deserves another Emmy for Luke Kirby.
I watched the scene with Lenny and Midge onstage at Carnegie Hall and thought he totally deserved an Emmy for that scene alone, plus the scene in the hotel earlier in the episode. I love the way he looks at her. Pure smolder and heat.

It is so well written, funny, charming, there's romance, good plot, etc. These are two characters that I won't even talk about because you should really just go and start watching it and see for yourself lol

@@mohemida not quite, the real Lenny Bruce struggled with drug addiction and died of a morphine overdose in 1966. the "before i'm dead" line was meant to refer to his real-life death, and the bag midge finds in his bathroom is heavily implied to be morphine and foreshadowing his later addiction problems

@@noinspirationtwoday7356 It's painfully underrated. This is one of the shows that actually really stayed with me even after I finished it. I thought I've seen good romance on screen, but Phoebe waller bridge brought to life this chemistry that basically beats anything else I've seen. Lenny and Midge definitely give that same 'energy' as Fleabag did, if you know what I mean.
It's very rare for me to find a ship to obsess over on the tv shows that are currently airing, specially because I love slow burns and there are hardly any well developed ships lately, but Midge and Lenny have become one of my favorite ships. Their evolution feels so natural, the friendship, the trust and the admiration they have for each other is maintained during all the interactions they have throughout the series. I love how in this edit you can see that evolution exactly as their interactions become more and more romantic and their banter gets stronger, specially since season 3. Keep doing this amazing edits because midge and lenny are so underrated and people need to notice them AND I NEED CONTENT SINCE WE ARE GOING TO HAVE TO WAIT 1 YEAR UNTIL WE SEE SEASON 5

This is perfect. I love their chemistry, and have been waiting for the climax-yes I went there from the very first episode. I just hope Season 5 they can continue even though we all know when he passes. You can see the frustration in Lenny as he leaves the stage.

Amazing how the arc of Lenny and Midge is similar to Lorelai and Luke - both relationships where not planned at the beginning and alot of will they or wont they of the either shows but lightning struck twice in a bottle with great actors and their amazing chemistry, well written by ASP......
And they finally got together at the end of S4 in both shows. Not to be downer but Lenny's addiction and ultimate passing in 1966 is where the comparison ends, unless the Palladinos rewrite history.

@@andreagoldstein4070 I don't think they have to rewrite history. Season 4 ends in 1960. This series has never done major time jumps between seasons or within a season. As you pointed out Lenny doesn't die until 1966. They can end the series/Season 5 with Lenny alive and well.

Multiple arrests, jail sentences, being banned from the country, falling off a window in Australia , to the eventual OD and death. Lenny bruce in reality led a very miserable life and what I like in this show’s depiction is that they are romanticizing his struggles (even while writing him as a romantic hero)
My favourite thing is actually his passion for her talent and success.

I definitely have been rooting for them since season 1. I love Lenny. Knowing his real story, makes it all so much sadder. A real testament to Luke Kirby’s acting abilities. Being able to make you feel all of the love for his character, knowing full well what’s coming next.
The last episode was by far the best episode. I only just watched that last one on Friday and keep thinking about it. I am obsessed with just how well it was done and to see such love. It is a show, but gosh it has really tugged at my heart mostly because their relationship is so good and the portrayal of Lenny Bruce makes it even more compelling because it's based on a real person who died so young. I just hope that do not write that into next season, I will be a emotional wreak for days if they do. .My hope is they allow them to stay and be in love throughout the whole last season. 😍 That is my wish!!

Kitty apparently really really appreciates Luke’s portrayal of her dad and has said that he’s been doing a great job basically. Luke’s continued to message her every so often to see what she’s thinking about his work on TMMM, which I think is very thoughtful and sweet. 😊
She's very involved and was the first person Luke thanked when he won his Emmy.

i have a feeling that this romance wasn't necessarily intended from the beginning and honestly... im so happy about it. the writers developed such an interesting dynamic and friendship between midge and lenny throughout the first three seasons that when it finally came to a romance in the fourth it felt so fulfilling and natural. i am absolutely dying to see what happens in season 5!!

I like Joel's character a lot now but I don't see him and Midge getting back together. I don't think them either of them really want each other anymore. Joel is getting serious with Mei and the upcoming baby. I'm team Lenny but I expect them to end with her single or something else complicated because he's a mess.

The doctor was her soul mate, but Lenny is her twin flame. I like the Dr. more. Boring but stable, however Lenny lights her fire and pushes her in her career. She wouldnt be able to get that with the Dr. Lose-lose situation.

My favorite scene isn’t here. The one where Lenny wakes up at Midge’s in the morning and tries to run off. Anybody else would just let him go but Midge follows him to the street sternly calling “Lenny Lenny”. That showed me she cares . It’s the second most emotional scene between them. To me their sex scene was too calculated. The flirting was spectacular but there was little emotion.

ASP knows how to write AMAZING slow cook romances. Lorelai and Luke? Perfection. Iconic. Midge and Lenny? Same. Each couple has its own identity while keeping the terrific chemistry and showing the many archetypes that love has.
I love the idea of them together, but we all know how Lenny's story ends so they can't be happily ever after.
My only ship that I wish won't happen.

They’re perfect for each other they’re just things and their lives mindset that they’ve adjusted themselves to the prevents them from truly accepting the love from each other. They’re smart enough to see it. They’re smart enough to feel it but they’re just too scared to put one foot forward and try.
It’s the perfect example of if you want to get married to somebody marriages work working on it every day all the time. Just because you love, somebody doesn’t mean you fit to marry them.
I love this story I love these characters. The way they’re written they want to live happily ever after they just don’t have what it takes to work with it.

I think it's obvious why the writers never made them a couple. Midge was a fictional character. It wouldnt make sense that a person that actually lived, Lenny, would be with a fictional character.
