Free Our Kids documentary film

This film was produced in partnership with BAY-Peace and the W. Haywood Burns Institute of the Free Our Kids Alliance to highlight the work of FOK over the last five years and to echo the message that "All Youth Are Sacred" as coined by young leaders of the CA Youth and Community Justice Coalition.
While FOK was able to successfully stop the expansion of Camp Sweeney in Alameda County and helped to push for the Closure of the CA Dept of Juvenile Justice through SB823, we still have more work to do.
With youth incarceration rates on a steady decline, the media makes it seem otherwise, continuing to sensationalize the hyper-criminalization of Black and Brown youth which further perpetuates false narratives about young people.
This film honors the work of local leaders from Urban Peace Movement and the Young Women's Freedom Center who are fighting to transform the juvenile justice system to re-imagine more holistic systems of accountability for our youth, as well as supporting their healing and leadership development.
