awesome sound that noise , did not hear much of it at all in gau , went up to but came down even faster at mount edgecumbe and the same at tuhara , hellava lot of fun for this school boy
"It's always good when they're underneath you", I know that feeling, as I look down on a DG505 from my Standard Cirrus :) Another great video, Tim - thank you! And, a well flown contest - congratulations! Oh so close.
I did it once 200' above circuit height, fortunately near the entry. That used up my buffer ... I immediately joined the circuit and went in. On windy/gusty days, I thermal a little faster. I suspect Tim was carrying water ballast, which can make speed control in weak or narrow thermals tricky.
@@davesgliding At height a nuisance. Near the ground meh. I hit huge rotor a few years ago at a central England airfield when the wind speed & dirction found an ungodly combination with hanger roofs & nearby trees. Even with a 3 axis microlight's Rotax engine it was, ermm, 'disconcerting'
unexpectedly had to vacate a caravan I lived in for 3 years of adventuring because I sold it today. I miss flying. The point, I stumbled across this little gold pin (badge) with three diamonds. It's been a long.long time. I miss it, but I had my run. I enjoy seeing yours. PIK 20B and a Nimbus 2C were mine and about 20 others for a flight or two. Aerobatics with a champion (I was flying) And to be honest some near death which only fully realized/sank-in on the ground Those were the days. I'll catch another thermal before I go. Be pleased with second (as you should) next time go for first. Thanks, your video came at the right moment.
Congratulations and thanks for the entertaining video. I'm not a pilot but just one question, why the 6,000' something height limit, is there commercial airspace above?
Hi yes air traffic control is required above 6500 feet in that area, and we don’t allow that for contest use. The reason is they might let a few people in but not others, which isn’t a fair contest.
@@PureGlide Now that you mention 6,500 I should have thought it through. I remember from back in my skydiving days over here in Oz we would often end up in an argument with the pilot because he didn't want to call up Traffic Control to go over 6,500 (I think it was the figure) and we jumpers didn't want to get out at anything less than 10,000. Drop Zone was only about 80km south-east of Tullamarine, so fair enough.
Unfortunately I was the scorer so I'd have to catch myself... we all try very hard not to enter controlled airspace as the penalty is very severe! See my current contest as an example...
Yah, so easy to do in a street when you hit a section that's unexpectedly just ripping. Sometimes speeding up isn't enough to arrest it, and a 100-200' incursion can be impossible to avoid (but you really should!)
Thanks for the ride along. Makes a bit of a struggle look worthwhile at the end, congratulations on the finish! The censored bits were funny - maybe next time put up the subliminal image 50 mSec before the audio & leave the audio in. We'd be looking for the duck.
@@Prof2phys I agree that metric is better, but the Europeans got one thing wrong. They should change their varios from m/s to km/h. It is very helpful to have both vertical speed and airspeed in the same unit (like knots in the case of NZ). For example if you want to work out your current glide ratio.
Looks like Mr Essex trounced the lot of you though .............is he a resident NZer now? Maybe you could apply the same rules as the USA does where you can win the championship but not be the champion if you are not a resident of the country.........
omg what a cute human in the beginning… oh you’re there too I guess
lol
Both look like they would loose in Gokarts if you ask me 😌
Omg Chim soft-launch!
@@Will-ui7dv omg one half of Wiz is here!
Hey, we had Frank (FE) drop in to see us at Dartmoor Gliding Society this week. Old skool, grass-roots club in SW England. Quite a surprise 😊
Thanks for sharing Tim. I'd like to get over to NZ at some point in time and have a look around. Looks such a beautiful part of the world!
Congrats on 2nd place! Way to survive those low spots.
Thanks!
It felt almost like being there without the overfull bladder 😋
Great video
You're in luck, I generally edit out the bladder relieving segments lol
Congratulations! Looks like you had a great time. It was fun to see the paragliders too.

Well done Tim
very well done Tim, did you win anything you can put on the mantlepiece and every time you walk past it you say "Next Year!" ?

Great flying! Close but 2nd is nothing to scoff at. Well done.
Thank you!
Tim good stuff well done
Thanks Brian!
Oh, I finally worked out the "Duck" at 1:22 !
A Duck has feathers, and feathers starts with a *"F"* .... 🤣
yip!
2:20 Did this whilst thermalling with a mate. Don't know if its a normal thing but I know it scared the hell out of me

Thanks Ade!
Very close 2nd = still a Champion in my books. 😀👍
Well done Tim.
Thanks!
Well done 😀
Thanks!
Nice little ooops moment at 2:22. 😉😂 Congrats for the 2nd!🥈
Thanks 😅

Nice going Tim. I recently purchased a Ventus C I still getting it ready to fly. What is your all up weight in your sailplane?
Hi congrats! Mine with the engine is limited to 430Kg. If I removed the engine it would be 500Kg. I’m about 20Kg under the max 430
Awesome stuff, wish it was longer but congrats anyway, Cheers!

I love your videos. Im going to solo in 2 days!
Awesome, that is very exciting! Let us know how you go
@@PureGlide it went well there was no wind but little lift (at least for me 😂) Great time!
Hi Tim. Are you guys using knots for vertical speed ? I though the norm was ft/min ?
Hi, yes knots for wind, vertical speed and airspeed. But we do tasks speed in km/h because we're not savages haha
You anglosaxon guys and your imperial units...sailplanes in France and Germany are mostly in metric system. It makes everything quickly convertible...

What's with the image you inserted?

Wow 57kmh on day 3, did that paramotor get round quicker?

im very curious what do you do for a day job ?
Unemployment homeless bum aka mobile software developer. Developer or PureTrack.io
Congratulations anyhow !.. there’s always next time …
Thanks!
Bazooka? Duck? Open season isn’t until 6th May Tim. What are you on about?
