That broadcast of War of the Worlds caused quite a bit of panic. I have seen radio shows at a local theatre based on it and from my understanding they really didnt announce clealry enough that the upcoming broadcast was just a story and not real live emergency updates.
The panic was overstated. And it was clearly stated prior to the start that it was fictional. Some people no doubt took it seriously, but it was a small number.
@@Stable_Genius in a time that all people had for info was ready and not a tv screen, they usually listened to warnings. Can't laugh off air raids. If they tuned in late for whatever reason they wouldn't have heard the beginning warning. I am not going to argue with someone about this as I wasn't there for original broadcast and can guess you weren't either. I am going by stories I've heard. My grandmother told me that when she was young the radio was a useful tool. To hear that story scared any number of people into thinking it was real is sad to hear. People panicking over a radio show that was for entertainment but not all knew that.
@@StalinLovsMsmZioglowfagz Given your screen name and poor grammar, I'll assume some type of brain damage or inbreeding. But if I understand your gibberish, it sounds like you have no clue what you are talking about. The original War of the Worlds broadcast was presented as fiction. A 5 minute google search will show that.
A different angle on the impact the "War of the Worlds" broadcast. I bet stories like this were a dime-a-dozen. It scared the crap outta the listening audience at the time.
I actually heard that radio program a long time ago on a radio station and as I already knew that it was a masterpiece of the legendary Orson Welles may he rest in peace. I can't watch anything zombie related because as a small kid my family went to the local drive in to watch a movie we did this once in awhile but the original night of the living dead was on and til this day I refuse to watch anything zombie related because that movie scared the living 💩🤢of me and my little sister before she passed away she also refused to watch anything zombie related but our little brother is a huge fan of TWD and other shows no thank you please but the resident evil franchise was tolerable but still it was not my favorite.
Olsen Wells? It's Orson Welles. And I think his best performance was on the Paul Masson Wine commercials. Ahhh, French champagne! ... Man, I could really use a drink right now...
I have the whole radio broadcast on tape. It was announced at least twice during the broadcast that it was a scripted play. How did so many not hear that?
Steve Allen once recalled what it was like when War of The Worlds was broadcast. Silence sparked the first sense of terror. In the drama, a reporter moves toward the spacecraft, commenting as he did so, there was a sudden commotion, and then dead air. It was all part of the dramatization, but to listeners, it signaled genuine trepidation. The radio only ever went silent during a program due to some kind of problem or technical issue. It lent a horrible credibility to the illusion of the Martian attack. Young Steve Allen was hauled downstairs from his apartment by family in an attempt to escape whatever fate would befall them from the alien invaders, but upon reaching the lobby, they saw everyone sitting around peacefully listening to Charlie McCarthy, not a care in the world. That was his first clue that something was not as it seemed. If there had truly been a crisis, every channel would have had its programming interrupted for it.
These stories were great! But, I feel bad for the old lady in one of them. She didn't deserve any of that! The police should have been called on the intruder right away. Whoever danced maniacally in the woods must have made the sound 4 of the young adults heard and I don't think he knew they were there the second they parked because he noticed them later. And that must have been a ghost in the last story.
I’m so glad I found your channel. I work graveyard and I listen at work ❤

Orson Welles narrated the radio version, but the original book was written by H.G Wells.
@@BobMonkeypimp yes indeed Herbert George Wells, was the author but Orson Welles brought it to life and I watched a victorian version of the novel.
It’s. ORSON Wells. Not OLSON..
Awesome as always.
Thank you for sharing.
GOD BLESS YOU!
Thanks!
Another great upload. How do you feel about longer spooky stories with photo's to back them up?
People actually committed suicide when the war of the worlds was read over the radio.

Ugh, that background sounds...
Yes, l heard of that Radio show. It really did scare the whole Nation. But Mr. Wells sure ended his Radio show.
You know what’s “needless to say”?…. Needless to say.
Sorry, something just annoying about you and your stories, nothing personal!
Hee we go doo and poo
....uh did you say OLSON WELLS.??? I always thought his name was ORSON WELLS....H
LOL.
🫠 I JUST LOVE YOU 🫠
Orson Welles, not Olsen. He wasn't Swedish. It might have been hilarious if he had done that great broadcast in a heavy Swedish accent.
Feel better, you’re great! I’m so glad I found this channel!!! Looking forward to hearing morrrrrre!
Great,I've been so ill, still am really . This helps.
Thanks!
Thank you for these creepy stories! I was so excited to see my favorite holiday and narrator together :)

Rape stories are disrespectful to victims, reducing it to a cheap horror story.
