- Peter Lorre stars as serial killer Hans Beckert in Fritz Lang's harrowing masterwork M, a suspenseful panorama of private madness and public hysteria that to this day remains the blueprint for the psychological thriller. Now available on Blu-ray and DVD. Learn more: www.criterion.c...
It's insane how they made a movie in 1931 and it feels so much like a movie you'd make today.
This is Fritz Lang's first sound movie. It set the standards for how movies with sound work.
no its not, stop lying!
EXACTLY (unlike metropolis)
@@cleo-subs dude yes it is you are low IQ. No one in the 30’s made movies about stuff like this. You are a fool and shouldn’t be allowed to consume any media without supervision
More like a movie you'll never make today
One of my favorite scenes ever captured on film.
Nah, I think the ball rolling into the ditch and the balloon getting caught in the telephone wires is the best scene in this movie. These two shots allow us to imagine the murder, and it hurts. Depicting the murder would have been exploitative or fake.
God what an actor and director, the entire film is so spectacular
Lorre never speaks a line until about nine tenths into the movie. And when he does, he delivers.
Can't believe I never watched this movie before today. Great film.
I watched it today
They're enough Blu-ray movies for you to make that switch, all of Criterion films on Blu-ray is a must have, Blu-ray uncompressed sound and 1080p quality is enough to make anyone switch over
Look at that lustful stare after seeing the girl. Lorre was amazing.
It was the knives and scissors together with the woman that made it lustful. This dude is super messed up. She is too old for him anyway, as we know from earlier scenes.
It's a relief to realize that Lorre and the kid aren't actually in the same shot, so the actor didn't actually have to act aroused while looking at a child. But using that mirror and scene splicing made a convincing and disturbing scene.
It's always interesting how they can use movie magic to make something so dark and disturbing with camera tricks. Peter Lorre and that kid are never actually in the same shot, so the actor didn't have to actually look at a child and act aroused. But using the mirror and different shots, they were able to piece together one disturbing as hell image.
Lang not so subtle with the giant arrow/phallus thrusting back and forth in the store window lol
Makes the hair in the back of my neck stand up
Fun fact: A group of psychologists went over 400 movies to determine the most clinically- accurate depiction of a psychopath put to film. Peter Lorre in this film made it to second place sitting behind Anton Chigurh from No Country for Old Men.
This movie is so great! It has inspired one of my short films. Lang is a wonderful director!
Chappy
bro never made it HAHAHAAHHAAHAHA
I dont get this. Both BR releases by Criterion and MoC dont have this quality! Is this because of TH-cam or what? Though i think that the cri version is a little bit sharper than moc. Please somebody respond there. Thx
If anyone can get a hold of the English version and share I would be grateful. Currently too poor for blu-ray but at least Criterion have released something a bit different here other than just releasing the same old thing.
I'm late but there is no English version. Only subtitles th-cam.com/video/_0C2Te59egQ/w-d-xo.html
