Hey guys, Guiden here. This video is a bit outdated. Since Mordhau's release over two years ago there have been a handful of balance changes, new features to existing weapons and new weapons all together. The spirit of each shield is still represented pretty well but you may find some information is no longer correct or changed completely. Thanks for watching.
i guess im asking randomly but does anybody know a tool to get back into an instagram account? I somehow lost the account password. I appreciate any assistance you can offer me
A note about shields is that they are best used in pairs with other shield users. When you're in a group you negate the only weakness the shield has and that is the kick. I have done skirmishes with other shield using based groups and we have realised that the only way to counter them is to get shields ourselves, after that it's all about who has better tactics and players, and if you can get them separated. This is a great video, most other videos just shit on shield users providing no insight from using one, although there's another fact that could have been included in which is that if you're using a shield the opponent is 30-50% more likely to spam kicks where you can just abuse this by not blocking and stabbing him back. I'm gonna use this video to teach new recruits about.
Well, staying in formation IS supposed to be a thing in, you know...battlefields. But people just run randomly for a glory they'll never achieve to get alone in those games. xD
7:08 and FOUR it means you can negate high level play e.g. drags, accels, feints and morphs.. thats the key point right there and thats why they’re hated.
@@thatrandomcrit5823 Dud, it's only a gaem, why you heff to be mad. But for real, I don't use those shields that much, however I think that since they are a part of a game and not some exploit, then let people enjoy things
I used to hear of people stowing parrying shields, then when they are running out of stamina, equipping it so it gets disarmed rather than their weapon, then getting a stamina boost to continue the fight with their two handed primary. Edit: I don't ever use shields or read any update information about them so this strategy might not actually work.
They need to add one more shield, Viking round shield, they have the helmet, sword(skin) and chainmail, gust need that shield, also we can make Spartas loadouts with them. They be wider the the kite shield (5 to 10in more to the radius) but cost the same. (no leg protection)
@@sojjjer so is the kite to the heater, no the round shield would be a big blocking shield (because having it has it was historically is pretty much impossible, having it attacking in the same time as your melee weapon isn't fair in a video game and having it parrying everything with that big hitbox would be busted too )...
@@sigma5437 but you can have a shield for parrying in one hand and punch someone with the other hand, I seriously don't know where are you going with this.
Fun fact: you can place infinite number of Pavise shields, just keep resupplying them. Literally make a wall of Pavise shields. Only caveat is that they all disappear when you die, so it's only good for one life. Pretty handy as a crossbowman, whenever I run to the ammo box to restock bolts, I get another Pavise shield to add to my fort.
Great video. I'm late to the game here but something I've noticed recently; When swinging your weapon while holding up your shield (shield wall) you will *always* perform an uninterrupted attack as if you had just reposte an attack. Big point FOR the shield. The only draw back is the time it takes to raise the shield so being light on your feet helps. Obviously this is best during 1vX encounters or during massive melees where everyone is reposting and switching targets constantly. You can perform an uninterrupted attack on command with the shield. You'll notice your cross hair change to show the uninterruptable attack icon; the hollow dot. I'm getting better and better with my shield use every day.
The block shields have changed, but the info given on ur parry shields is still very useful, I'll do some testing of my own to confirm they're the same still, thanks for the vid
One simple strat you can use block shields for is making people kick randomly. If you don't block very often and they try to kick it's free real estate
Excellent video, thanks! Question: When using a blocking shield, can you riposte after holding the shield up for a few seconds or can you only riposte after pressing block just before the attack?
Small correction: You say Buckler is tied for best stamina drain negation in the game, but actually the best drain negation weapons in the game are Peasant weapons, several of which have 15 negation and 2 of which have 16 (the sledgehammer and the pickaxe). I think you also said the (long) Spear has 11 negation, but it actually has 12. also i wish you'd tested shield blocking angles just in case, cuz I've seen some people speculate/assert that shields actually have a larger blocking area than weapons do, despite the Advanced tab saying the blocking angles are much smaller for shields than for weapons.
1. Hey, nice catch! I actually overlooked the peasant weapons completely since most of them are memey and pretty inferior to most real weapons in the game alongside that you can't equip a shield with the peasant perk in your initial loadout so that did slip by me. The Sledgehammer is the king at 16 SDN that costs a whopping 14 points in your loadout and is basically a worse maul in nearly every way so I doubt it's used outside of memes and/or doing high damage to obj. in frontline. You are technically correct about what I said about the buckler which is the best kind of correct! I'll be pinning your comment so others can see. 2. The 10 point spear (long) is 11 points negation so that figure is correct. I just checked this in the game before I wrote this comment to double check. The Short Spear is the one with 12 points negation. 3. See I'm not so sure about that. All weapons in the game (including peasant weapons) have the same exact blocking tolerance when it comes to blocking. I believe it's 40 Up, 55 L-R, 55 Down. The higher this number the easier it is to block in its respective direction. Perhaps this is due to all weapons being around the same size width wise which would mean all weapons have the same blocking range which in my experience I would agree with that. Shields on the other hand have different tolerances that you can see here imgur.com/a/5QKfoQo. I believe that they are different because the shield width is much difference than the weapon size so they change the tolerances so both shields and all weapons have a uniform blocking window. When testing the arrows towards the end of the video I had the archer shoot me at the very bottom edge of the Targe which blocked it while blocking my chest looking straight at him. I then did this with the much smaller Buckler aiming at the same point where the lowest part of the Targe was which would have the arrow not be blocked and hit me. This was not the case as shown. I had also asked a dev if the shields had the same blocking radius (Targe and Buck) to which he believed was yes. The only shields I'd say that actually have a bigger blocking view is the hold shields since once you do actually hold them in place they do block more than a parry, especially the kite shield. I hope this helps and if you do find something that does confirm what you're saying let me know! Thanks for the comment.
@@GuidenYT Hm OK I double-checked and realized that the Spear's long (primary) mode has 11 drain negation and the short/fast (alternate) mode has 12. Another note about the Sledge is that it has 35 drain (vs 24 for Maul or like 17-20 for most average weapons), so it sort of auto-wins in a mindless riposte fest within 4-5 hits, but of course has lots of big downsides. Pickaxe also deserves a shoutout for being as fast as an Executioner's sword while having 23/16 drain stats (meaning 10 stamina damage inflicted, 4 stamina damage taken vs a Zweihander). Can't combo though, and of course its range is pretty mediocre, so I'm not really saying it's not ultimately a meme weapon.
Slime Dragon Yes, although the targe receives more stamina damage. You still get a 30 stamina boost after getting disarmed. The buckler would be better though. It all depends if you want to spend your points on it.
Can we riposte after blocking with a shield? It could be latency but sometimes when I hit my block and the animation is in the process of coming up I can block the attack and then stab very quickly with my bastard sword. The shield absorbs their attack and my guy's arm will stick through the shield as I am releasing the attack.
The new kite/heater shields have a new function which allows them to perform riposte attacks after using the alt mode (shield wall). Basically, hold R, then perform an attack. This will lower your shield and cancel the shield wall, but the attack will be a riposte. This is called "free riposte" because normally ripostes work by attacking the moment after you parry, but with shields you can riposte whenever you want.
To add to PotatoKilr, Ripostes are the only attacks in the game that can't be flinched. So you can do the free riposte and if the enemy tries to kick you or attack first, his hit won't flinch you and you'll land a hit of your own.
So i was dieing from thoes arrows from angle i thought i blocked.... What if there is actual chance of maybe 80% to block or 20% for arrows to ignore shields or something like that?!
another possibility: maybe, while the parry vs melee with parrying shields works the same as with all other weapons, parrying arrows with shields might require the *actual model of the shield* to collide with the projectile - you might've noticed in the video that those arrows often were hitting below where the shield was posed during parries (while weapon parry parries everything the same, with the same abstracted hitbox and the same time window). Which would also make the targe a bit more worthwhile. Definitely there isn't any RNG involved.
Shields are meant for frontline. They negate any drags, accels, morphs, projectiles and feints. You don’t need to think in order to use them. Walk backwards and it is also impossible to get kicked. They are training wheels for the mentally inept. They aren’t meant to be viable at high level duels since then it would be the best item all around with no counterplay. Only cucks use held shields. Pavise shield does its job and parry shield make low stamina damage weapons viable (rapier etc.). Only held shield users want it to be buffed since they cannot win fights otherwise.
>Shields are meant for frontline hey, exactly like irl history. Also, remember, the kick range got buffed a bit since launch - it is still short (duh), but you need some reflexes to step out from its range to avoid it (also, IIRC, when someone has a shield in front, his hitbox for being kicked is also extended forward, making him easier to be kicked)
Adzi What are trying to say. Held shields require no skill to successfully defend. They can just constantly backpedal till they outnumber the enemy. They don’t need a buff since they are already good enough for a crutch.
Battle Axe has 19 points StamDam on swing. Targe has 12 points StamDamNeg on parry. 19 - 12 = 7 total points of StamDam on block of Battle Axe with Targe.
