to have the possibility of following this journey, from the cab of the locomotive, it really turns a dream. thank you for posting this film which allows us all to really dream.
Back when the pool was double-ended! When did that go away? 98? I remember seeing a lot of Basin guys show up in Bakersfield when the hub agreement changed.
@@deadhead82 I can see the first one is an SP 8300-Class (D oor on the side of the nose to access former radio control compartment) do you remember or have noted which engine number, exactly?
I put my headphones on at night with this playing, and I sleep like a baby! The soothing rhythm of the EMD 645E3 singing just for me.
Love it....oh how I wish I could get a ride through Tehachapi!!!!

At the 3:40 mark, is that a fire alarm/over heat warning followed by the prime mover unloading and shutting down?
sure sounds like a HOT ENG warning. It'll only limit power at first to about throttle 4/5 unless the condition persist's.
Sounds like it. In tight long tunnels like that the. Heat from locomotives can’t dissipate well. Once it leaves the tunnel had problem is solved
The first long tunnel......where is that?
Where the 5 and Highway 14 meet near Sylmar and Santa Clarita. Called the San Fernando Tunnel.

I’m guessing this was between 94 and 96 given those AC4400s were delivered towards the end of 94.
June 15 and 16 of 1997
@@deadhead82 much appreciated!
I wonder what tehachapi looked like then 🤔

Which locomotive?
1ales1 Leader going northbound (west) was a SP tunnelmotor SD40T-2 and going south (East) was a UP SD40-2.
