@@Sushisushi77it’s been two months but I felt like this needed to be updated! Yes! Three members were suing SM BUT they also put out a statement saying that they had no intention of leaving Exo. They just wanted their demands to be met. They withdrew the lawsuit saying that they came to an agreement with SM. They are now back to doing group activities and other solo activities and are almost done with military service (Kai is in the military and only Sehun is left)

Bts wasn't really popular until bs&t and fire. I think if the views were the ones they were back then, fire would have probably made the list in 2016. Run was when they kinda finally had some sort of fandom for the first time, but barely tbh. The way we know them now, as like the most popular kpop boy group, was probably since DNA. And boy with luv was probably when they became the biggest boy group worldwide. Dope reaction!
BTS hit the Western scene roughly in 2017 in the major category. They had success in their debut year winning most of the rookie awards. It is just mediaplay that tells you otherwise. BTS worked their way up album for album and song for song.
@Ruth Fischer I was a hardcore army from about 2015-2018, I saw their rise to fame through my own eyes. They were just as relevant as all the other rookies groups. Exo was the most successful group back then, and probably bigbang, at least boygroup wise. Bts debut didn't do horrible, actually pretty good, but they wouldn't have made it on this list till probably fire, especially not to no1. Also DNA was in 2017

It is in "The Rise of Bangtan"-series (and there is also an interesting DKDKTV vid where Danny makes fun of Army and David works through his own thought process about Naver to come to the conclusion that the fasn ARE right), some of boracity magazine vids I think and maybe some of bby gang mag's video essays. Dr. Jiyoung Lee has also held interesting lectures about it (and there is a clip where a Prof (?) teaches a group about how music promotion usually works and how it was the fandom instead of promoters that made BTS big (Namjoon said that 50% of the success is credited to Army, 5% for each member and 15% for HYBE/Big Hit and as far as I can tell that is - mostly - true) 💜
Just so yk these views are based off of what they are at now not what they were at back then meaning a lot of the early BTS stuff you saw was not the most viewed during the time and there were likely other groups up there instead. I like these types of videos cause you get a good sense of kpop throughout the years but it is kind of annoying that it doesn't accurately protray the actually popular songs at the time.

kinda misinformative because early BTS did not get view enough to reach top ten of the year, the numbers are most likely inflated by their current popularity. i'd say they began exploding during I NEED YOU and really had a permanent presence after WINGS era!
The way this video is done skews the perception a bit on what was popular in that year. For example it looked like BTS was killing it from debut but since the view count was taken from August 2022 their videos having so many views in 2013 is from fans that discovered them later going back and watching there old music videos. BTS came from a very small company and it took them years to build up a strong fandom before they exploded.
It took them about 2-3 years to get a stable fanbase but they had already had a decent following and won awards within a year of debut. They did come from a small company but many groups nowadays have it a lot harder compared to BTS within their first year.
I like many of these songs by different groups (Stray Kids, Super Junior, Shinee, Girls Generation, Big Bang, BTS, Blackpink etc...) But my all time favorite kpop group is EXO. (Since 2020 EXO-L forever) Can't wait for their comeback❤

BTS made it without the usal promoter. Which is one of the reason SK entertainment media still writes so little about them or gives it a bad spin.
It is in "The Rise of Bangtan"-series (and there is also an interesting DKDKTV vid where Danny makes fun of Army and David works through his own thought process about Naver to come to the conclusion that the fasn ARE right), some of boracity magazine vids I think and maybe some of bby gang mag's video essays.
Dr. Jiyoung Lee has also held interesting lectures about it (and there is a clip where a Prof (?) teaches a group about how music promotion usually works and how it was the fandom instead of promoters that made BTS big (Namjoon said that 50% of the success is credited to Army, 5% for each member and 15% for HYBE/Big Hit and as far as I can tell that is - mostly - true)

Just so yk these views are based off of what they are at now not what they were at back then meaning a lot of the early BTS stuff you saw was not the most viewed during the time and there were likely other groups up there instead. I like these types of videos cause you get a good sense of kpop throughout the years but it is kind of annoying that it doesn't accurately protray the actually popular songs at the time.

The way this video is done skews the perception a bit on what was popular in that year. For example it looked like BTS was killing it from debut but since the view count was taken from August 2022 their videos having so many views in 2013 is from fans that discovered them later going back and watching there old music videos. BTS came from a very small company and it took them years to build up a strong fandom before they exploded.
It took them about 2-3 years to get a stable fanbase but they had already had a decent following and won awards within a year of debut. They did come from a small company but many groups nowadays have it a lot harder compared to BTS within their first year.
I like many of these songs by different groups (Stray Kids, Super Junior, Shinee, Girls Generation, Big Bang, BTS, Blackpink etc...) But my all time favorite kpop group is EXO. (Since 2020 EXO-L forever) Can't wait for their comeback❤

Members of EXO had to do mandatory military service. And while the ones that are age appropriate are doing service the other members do solo endeavors like solo music, acting or modeling and once everyone has completed their service then they will be back
Edit: of course there are other reasons they aren't being seen that much right now including not as successful comebacks (which someone else has mentioned) but I believe that once they finish military service they'll be back 🤷🏾♀️ I don't really consider their less successful comebacks as a fall off because they weren't failed comebacks but just less successful but that's how I see and others might not see it that way.
