Rob Hanzlik good luck, I support your decision. I just had a friend OD on heroin recently, it sucks to lose someone for something so silly. When it gets tough just think of your loved ones who will miss you when you're gone. take care
Rob Hanzlik Stick with it and on some days you will struggle to get through the next hour sober. If you have to think in minutes " for the next 5 minutes Im going to stay sober" then do it. It has been so long for me I cant remember the exact details but I know in the beginning, I was looking from hour to hour and its not easy but it can be done. It has been 23 years for me.
It gets easier every day. I was on opiates for about 7 years, the last 3 were heroin. I can say once you make it a week, then a month, a year, it just keeps getting easier and better.

Charlie that day you came home and landed at Clark AFB. I was only about 5 but ... I was there ... My Father was an Air Force F4 pilot stationed at Clark. I was very young ... this is one of the very few memories I have of that time. I remember you all getting off the air plane ... and there was a big huge inflatable tub ... they dunked you all in it. I remember everyone so happy to see you all. Thank you for your service and your 6 years in horror.
Charlie Plumb is a true inspiration. That old saying," a wise man once said", well that wise man is Charlie Plumb.The way he has remained so optimistic when stripped of everything from being a POW for 6 years to coming back home and learning his wife wants a divorce and is engaged to another man, he never let a negative situation break him. He always was making the best of what he had. This is very inspiring. What Jocko starts reading from Charlie's book at about 2:45 on into the podcast are important lessons that can apply to everyone.
These Veterans are rockstars in my eyes. Lets just say theyre part of the greatest generation also. We need to create a National holiday specifically for the Vietnam veteran. It wont make up for the viel behavior they endured when they came home but it would be a start
I agree, it's nice to have Veterns day but we should have a day for all medal of Honor heroes and also POW day, whether it's for WWI and WWII POWs or Korea, Vietnam or the Middle East POWs... these guys need a whole day just for them! Absolute legends for being able to survive for so long in such horrible conditions
We don't need a useless holiday to honor them. Instead of showing them how grateful you are one day a year how about shaking a veterans hand when you see one and actually start talking to them. A holiday and a meaningless comment on social media once a year isn't honoring anyone but yourself. Go to your local vfw and buy a round of beers for the vets and ask them their story if you actually give a damn about them.

The history of air warfare during the Korean and Viet Nam wars are an interesting history. It should be taught in all American history and political science class. The many facets help us understand the nature of war, the nature of politics, and human nature.
Charlie is the most amazing public speaker I have ever seen. I saw him speak at an FMC national meeting in Vegas several years ago! Had the opportunity to talk to him and have him sign my book. Only to find out he flies in to MY small town airport in Marshall, MO several times every year. On this Veterans Day thank you Charlie and every VET that has ever SERVED!

Fascinating, riveting and humbling from beginning to end. Thank you for your service. I was a teen during Viet Nam and I can tell you, I was all about the POW’S. I had a metal bracelet with my POW’S name and date he went missing. In everything I’ve ever owned, I regret that bracelet going missing. Family heirlooms included. That bracelet meant the most. I can relate to these guys. Every one of them but especially the POW’S. As a survivor of childhood sexual abuse from the age of 4 until 19 I was in a battle for my personal safety and mental health. I also had to look out for other children within range of the different sexual predators. I fought them physically and played mental mind games with them on a daily basis. I did everything but tell. Today? I’m 62 and I’ve lived my life with my disabilities from living those years and I have tried to make those bastards regret the day they let me live. It’s a battle. I win some and I lose some but even in a loss those bastards don’t forget they had a battle with me. Just every day situations in life. I have to say I have felt overwhelmed and beaten down. Watching these guys encourages me to get up and get on with the next thing. Grace and Godspeed in Jesus name ~ CG

It isn't like I was code white to this point as I was raised by a WW2 vet who lived through a very tough 4 years of fighting and starvation/challenge of the dirty 30's before that. But the way Charlie and the others persevered, adapted and overcame their circumstances is a mental, emotional and soul level grounding for me going forward. Perspective. Thank you Jocko, Echo and of course, Charlie.

The Alcatraz 11 - Shu, Johnson, Denton, Stockdale, Rutledge, Jenkins, Mcnight, Mulligan, Tanner, Storz only one that didn't make it back and Coker. Captain Plum with a great story and all the other POWs that endured torture and mistreatment while in captivity for our freedom. We shall never forget any of these great men. We shall continue remembering these brave heroes for generations to come.

This guy has lived a rare life, most people including me don't know real difficulty and it really puts into perspective that we just shouldn't complain. We are free to act and improve at every moment, having a strong mind is something that will always serve you. Many people talk about there problems in such whining and weak ways like how hard it is for them when a man like this explains real difficulty in such a calm and humble way with no intention of making people feel sorry for him, just explaining it like it is, I have definitely learned some perspective from hearing Charlie plumbs story, very incredible stuff. It sounds like a film how hard it actually was being a POW and it's not every day that you get to hear from a person who actually lived through this. Jockos podcast has made me respect the military mindset / mental strength / discipline in so many ways, I am not involved with the military in any way, but I'm very thankful for Jocko and Echo putting out these great podcasts. Charlie plumbs story is awesome and he definitely deserves respect and recognition.

Can you imagine comparing getting shot out of the sky behind enemy lines, surley to be captured by enemy forces to the same amount of impact of life as someone loosing a job in the civi world? This is such a great presentation of how these men survived and in many ways thrived under such horrible circumstances. I know training time is so valuable for so many of the skills that need to be crammed in before a deployment, but it seems the lessons these men learned on how to survival mentally in these conditions would be priceless to any soldier or sailor that might end up in enemy hands.

They are war criminals, bombing civilians. Killing innocent people they deserved their suffering and their victimization is sickening.

Thanks again Jocko! I have the utmost respect for military personnel and an extreme amount of respect for Vietnam Veterans specifically. I have a few cousins that have served in the Vietnam conflict and appreciate their humble nature because of what they had gone through. I learned of your podcast on the Joe Rogan podcast and am grateful that I did. Many of your guests have opened up my eyes even further than before by sharing their experiences. Thank you to Captain Plumb for telling your story.
This guy has lived a rare life, most people including me don't know real difficulty and it really puts into perspective that we just shouldn't complain. We are free to act and improve at every moment, having a strong mind is something that will always serve you. Many people talk about there problems in such whining and weak ways like how hard it is for them when a man like this explains real difficulty in such a calm and humble way with no intention of making people feel sorry for him, just explaining it like it is, I have definitely learned some perspective from hearing Charlie plumbs story, very incredible stuff. It sounds like a film how hard it actually was being a POW and it's not every day that you get to hear from a person who actually lived through this. Jockos podcast has made me respect the military mindset / mental strength / discipline in so many ways, I am not involved with the military in any way, but I'm very thankful for Jocko and Echo putting out these great podcasts. Charlie plumbs story is awesome and he definitely deserves respect and recognition.

Just listened to this podcast today. I very much enjoyed hearing his story and it’s truly an inspiration. Have been listening to 1-2 podcasts a day at work. Love them.
Can you imagine comparing getting shot out of the sky behind enemy lines, surley to be captured by enemy forces to the same amount of impact of life as someone loosing a job in the civi world? This remark stayed with me. The humbleness of this man is amazing. His story is remarkable, truly a testament to how strong humans can be both emotionally and physically. Wow. God bless sir🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Jocko my dad was a WWII vet, my brother & uncle Vietnam, An uncle who fought in Saigon Captain Plumb's story hit so many emotions.
This should be played in schools we need to be teaching these kids 💯

Me too. I stumbled across Jocko Podcast not long ago and decided to start at #1. Here we are now at #76. So awesome!
This is such a great presentation of how these men survived and in many ways thrived under such horrible circumstances. I know training time is so valuable for so many of the skills that need to be crammed in before a deployment, but it seems the lessons these men learned on how to survival mentally in these conditions would be priceless to any soldier or sailor that might end up in enemy hands.
You guys rock! Keep up the work! Glad I stayed to the very end to hear what happened with the wife and later life.
