Did they ever say anything about adding a second parent option? Like the need for a male and female in order to nest and keep track of in the family tree? I find it a bit of a shame that it only tracks one parent especially when it comes to the likes of the WWD server. Will they ever update it to have such a feature?
I made a suggestion in the PTB nesting feedback. I think both males and females can build nests. Males can only adopt, while females can lay eggs and adopt. But females can only lay eggs if they are grouped with a male. It would give some more importance to choosing a male or a female dino other than color dimorphism.
I think they will update the nesting to have features like that. I know a lot of realism community servers have disabled nesting because it doesn't work well for realism and more just for messing around on officials.
Personally I'm more than fine with nesting not requiring two parents, makes it easier to just get a nest going and move on. However, this means the dinosaur gender divide is now arbitrary, so it really shouldn't be taking an entire growth stage when all it does is affect the colors of your dino. Would be nice to add a second parent to the family tree too, just not forcing us to find another dino to hatch babies. At that point you could just make a baby in the tutorial cave and skip the hatching in a nest part altogether. Not to mention how hatching eggs is objectively worse for diversity when you can adopt any dino but only hatch the same spscies as yourself. The only reason you'd bother finding a mate is so you can have a very tiny(hatchling) version of yourself hatch in your nest, and that's honestly not worth it enough to force you to find a second parent for it. Also that one homecave decoration unique to being hatched in a nest but it doesn't change my point much at all.
I wish we didn't have to invite players to be egg's. Instead they just see an egg icon next to the dino they want to be in the creator screen, and they spawn into an available same species nest.
I really like nesting because nesting allows players to actually be able to move around the map more. I find players more frequently in areas like hunters, thicket, and even in remote areas like burnt forest or snake gully because of the nesting system, forcing players to move to these new spots. I have noticed that IC and GP are a lot more emptier now that players are thinning out.
I have 19 kids now as a hatz and 2 of my kids have just reached adulthood and started their own nests, but for some reason I only see the 2 generations of hatzs on our family tree but they see all 3 generations. I want to see my grandkids on my treeee
Definitely hope they update that! I'D LOVE to see my family tree or if my offspring were successful or not! Really hope we can see beyond just our own offspring and be able to view the entire family tree.
The meat chunks thing is true BUT what food items you can donate to the nest also changes based on your diet, if a Carnivore has scavenger it can pick up bones, Fish, carrion, etc. And donate them to the nest. Herbivores can donate berry branches and other food items based on their diets. Fun fact, one Araphaima fills a rhamph nest entirely.
The update came out about a week after my family and I decided to all play as sarcos, with them starting as juveniles and me already being a sub-adult. It’s nice to have an in-game feature that will help me help them stay alive and grow as they learn how to play as sarcos!
Maybe I missed this, but did you mention if you can nest completely by yourself? it requires no other players to do? Unlike The Isle that requires 1 male 1 female?
You do get boosted growth when next to a parent however I do not think it lasts if you or the parent dies or if you grow above adolescent. Making it pretty much useless outside of editing abilities and what not
You keep marks all unlocked skins and skills. When you restart a Dino. If this is different on unofficial servers it's because of the administration's settings I have. Official, you keep everything.Your growth is just reset.
I have to say, the idea is cool, but for some species its insanely hard to nest. Take rex with his new food abilities... You can only eat fresh meat *hunting critters with rex is fun - not! because they give you NOTHING!* or you need to have a corpse around but then you can't eat any critters so if you have more then one rex around you run out of food insanely fast because the corpse respawn is slow. So when you build a nest youre not only having to keep in mind the place were to build it because of materials but also how you can maintain your OWN dinosaur without starving. The gathering of material can be tricky because some are not found close together, lots of walking, by the time you are done you have lost over 20% of your food/water and then you have to fill up your own dino AND the nest for the hatchlings! I hope the devs trim that down a bit because walking back and forth 15 times for mud that isn't close is frustrating, so you start running to get it done faster! When you have a slower dinosaur that NEEDS that stam do also do attacks - both rex and dasp in this case, well.... Also, I think its weird that you cant make a nest with someone in your group and let that person use your nest as well. I hope the devs bring in something like a "mate"system so both parents can use that same nest. I get why it isn't in YET because groups might abuse it in their clanwars to get around time-outs. I think for this to work you should bring in both a male and a female. I always wondered why there would be males AND females in this game if they don't have much of a use, you don't have to pick them for the skins because 9 out of 10 times the skins are not very pretty.
I'm confused about the abilities thing because you can always change your abilities by sleeping so why did they need to mention that unless you can now only change abilities on or near a nest
