    Anybody watching this:
    --- Be very cautious about the water storage tank in very back of the trailer. That's a BAD and DANGEROUS idea. Too much weight at the rear -- 800 pounds swinging left and right during quick maneuvers can get you killed. If you are planning on building a trailer --> design your water tank and holding tanks as low and as close to the axles as possible.

      Those are lithium batteries so probably not more than 150 lbs of dead weight. Compare that to almost 1100 lbs of live weight. I won't go as far as to say it's dangerous but it is definitely not optimal. I agree with having a lower profile rectagular tank, maybe even two (or more) baffled tanks that reduce the free surface effect of sloshing water.

    • @Andy_M986
      @Andy_M986 4 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      Having water around the electronics isn't the best idea either, boxed off in the centre with an opening door to be able to fill the tank would be a better option.

    I have seen a few of these videos and they all seem to have a common element, their battery bays are a C fire waiting to happen. To humor you guys I will list a couple that I see off first glace.
    1.) Mechanical abrasive shorting potential between cells when the insulation of the main leads is a potential risk. In general you want a circuit interruption device to be as close to the battery as possible.
    2.) Exposed cells/bus tie points. Any conductive material across those points can dead short that portion of the battery until it fuses open, looses connection, or destroys affected cells. Potential for class C fires, then class A, and in worse case Class D due to the lithium battery chemistry. On a good note, those cells look to be of a more stable chemistry.
    3.) That circuit breaker is convenient; however, not likely rated for the DC current interruption needed with that battery in a fault.
    4.) Water by electronics. Self explanatory; not necessarily a hazard, but precautions should be observed.
    5.) Dual use storage and rigging for sea. This is more of a general concept, the electrical system needs to be protected if the space is going to be used for storage duty. Contents may shift during flight.
    6.) This may be a bit inevitable, but there isn't easy access to the battery bay when loaded. This goes back to circuit interruption. I would install a remote battery disconnect contactor that isolates the battery at a touch of a button.
    7.) Maybe I missed it but I didn't see any figure extinguishers in sight in that battery well.
    Just a few top level observations. Nice build.

      @philhealey449 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes some valid points. This looks like a Blue Sea Systems circuit breaker which should be ok for 48V and 3000 Amps breaking capacity. I think if say it's a 5kW inverter then I'd add a 150A HRC fuse for peace of mind.

I'm tired of all these van and trailer build that people put together, where they're shitting in buckets and showering in rubbermaid containers, it's just not practical, and once the novelty of it wears off another junk rig for sale on marketplace. This rig I could actually live in.

    Great fort! When I was like 13 I built a fort in the woods between four evenly spaced trees that was well over 30 feet tall from the ground to the "sun deck" . It had two open floors (no walls) between enclosed floors. It had a ladder in a different spot on each floor and a knotted escape rope from the roof to the ground. It had a Colman heater, a boom box for entertainment and we even had a porta potty away from the fort. We were always trying to find a fireman's pole or build a slide for life but the township found it and torched the place one Sunday. I could see the fire from the highway on our way to church. When we finally got back there some time later it had all been picked up and aside from some burned tree trunks, you'd never know it had been there. The township posted a sign on each of the four trees "No Trespassing, Twp Property" I'm in my 60s now and I'm absolutely going back there at some point just to see if I can still find the spot and maybe a relic.

    I like the overall design of the thing. Only major change I would have done is build a bed platform above your couch, probably something that can be raised and lowered to maximize head space in the sitting area when not sleeping. You could still soundproof the three walls, ceiling and under the bed platform, and use heavy blackout curtains to close off the sleeping area from the rest of the trailer. I just worry that the crypt would get too damp and promote mold growth, even if it has ventilation.

    well I'm calling click bait ! thumbs down..i clicked to see the 2 k solar..I'm currently specking out a 7 panel 2.1k solar system myself for my rig..if you have seen one trailer build you have seen them all..this one isn't that good either and isn't that safe..125 gallons x 8.34 (weight of water p/g) is 1,042.5 lbs..that tank should be in the front section and centered..that protection he gawked at pretty much prevents fires/explosions..he stated lithium batteries..Battle Born Batteries are lithium iron phosphate and have a very robust and very good charge controller built into every battery which makes them extremely safe in this application. because they are a drop in replacement for flooded batteries..no need for a special charger for lithium cells like he mentions..also much more safer than lithium ion..matter of fact lithium ion are down right dangerous in this application even worse in this configuration (all in series) and no mention in the Outback Power FlexMax FM60 Charge Controller manual if it is able to safely charge any lithium battery..even if it can..it can only do so if you thermo monitor every battery which is clearly not done here..
    Please let me state that I AM NOT A HATER !! but people should think before posting videos of death traps like this..if one person follows this guys floor plan and electrical build now you are endangering people with YOUR ignorance and Qwest for cheap!..lets not forget only one egress (the door) to get out which is going to be a real issue because that back section where all that energy is stored should be encased in fire board and who are you kidding with that little fire extinguisher? when this thing goes that thing will be useless..i carry the spirit of the one armed man with two guns..when asked why two when you only have one arm? his reply was "I'm not gettin kilt for the lack of shootin back !" so i have two 10lb CO2 and one 4lb abc fire extinguishers..
    You might ask why?..well when this thing burns and it will..to the frame..the insurance company will figure out you made a time bomb and even with full comprehensive will not pay out for anything..hopefully the only good thing that might come out of it is your not sleeping in "The Crypt"..yup you named it correctly alright..the biggest danger to a Mobil domicile is fire and this guy has done his best to make sure he dies in one..now I'm a full timer also..if you got to my channel you will see i bought a Itasca Suncruiser 37B..it was a mechanics special and I'm currently doing the repairs myself..just a lot of maintenance that wasn't done that brought the price down to what I'm sure is about what that pickup costs..go..look at what i live in for less than what this entire setup costs..look at the space,fit and finish,comfort ect ect..if this comes off as harsh or i just have a burr up my ass its because stupid crap like this is going to get insurance rates jacked for the rest of us..then insurance companies are going to get regulations in place for who can do what to Mobil domiciles..the current wait time for most Mobil domicile repairs at a RV repair shops varies from a week to months depending on where you are at and what the issue is and its getting worse as more and more folks are adopting this lifestyle..

    WWOOWW MAN AWESOME!!! Great to see someone TRULY INNOVATING! I am VERY much like him. I have some Hawaii insite as we have a lot of asian culture here. Washer dryer all in ones are REAL. They are VERY VERY common in korrea. So you can buy one that actually works if you buy it from korrea. Also Refigerated drawers are also a thing. anyway awsome setup.

      @@michaelberding4616 I'm a radio engineer -- but my skills fall apart when working with the carbohydrate foam (wood)... I like the 48V DC Plant -- I build all my comms systems on them. Curious to know more about the problems you've had with the 48V HVAC, looking at a similar setup for a (AC Primary, 48V 100AH DC Backup battery with 48V engine-driven alternator as a backup) site....

      @@n3lee The 48v battery bank has been fantastic, no issues there at all. The 48v heat pump that I purchased was overpriced and the heating function on it was flakey at best. It would error out frequently for no apparent reason and it would almost always error out if the wind was blowing directly into the outside unit's fan. The company I bought it from (HotSpot Energy) was not helpful in getting the situation resolved. I think it was a beta product and I was a guinea pig.
      The only downside to a 48v system in an RV is getting equipment that'll work with it. Your choices are more limited. Should you choose to go with 24v, there's a lot more options.

    Your rig is fantastic. Well planned out. I hope you can answer a few questions. Where do you normally eat? I assume up in the lounge area. Even though you said you planned the bathroom for you by yourself, I wonder why you did not make a separate shower and toilet unit to vent and isolate the smell. I assume you are not a fan of open light, why did you bother with windows. Resell I assume down the road Love the idea you planed for using the under section for your tanks and extras. No worry about damage or freezing. Why no generator to recharge your batteries if you decide to travel into areas of reduced sun. Do you support yourself on the road. Would enjoy seeing some of the various places you have been with your rig
    Look forward to seeing some of your answers. Some of your best set ups in my opinion are the elevated solar panels. Very ingenious. Your shower set up set up where you can send Grey water outside or Grey water tank. Entire back garage with water tank and solar set up. Very easy to get at and maintained. Your bed under your lounge is good for you but too much work for me. Your design so my opinion does not matter. If I was 60 years younger I would love have a rig like yours to travel around. One of the best featured self contained units I have ever seen
    Do you have plans to take it to Alaska and enjoy that beautiful state and check out the winter season?
