They are equally great, I have alot of fond memories with the skylands games and still have them on my shelf. Amiibos are cool to though especially detailed ones and they have mild functionality in new games. Personally I’d say they are both great for different reasons and they can all sit together on a shelf.
Skylanders a all unique and cool looking characters with their own personalities while amiibo are the characters that we have seen probably a million times with the exception of Spyro
In my opinion, I don’t think they should be compared. I know that they are both nfc figures but they have different uses, the skylanders figures are the main part of the game while amiibo are meant to enhance the game slightly but this will be a good video.
I like Skylanders more, because it is the VERY FIRST toys to life game that I've played since I was a kid. Its always been my favorite game, and I still love playing Skylanders *today* However, another toys to life game I played was Disney Infinity. But I grew out of it ever since because I leaned into Skylanders the most in my life. Plus, looking back at Disney Infinity (PLEASE DO NOT BE OFFENDED) it did seem like a rip-off to Skylanders. If I were to say my favorite Skylanders game, obviously ALL OF THE ABOVE (except Spyro's Adventure, because Giants *was* my first). But, if I were to say my MOST favorite, it's Swap Force and Imaginators (Swap Force because I loved the swapping combination gimmick, and I instantly made it my sole desire to collect all 16 swap force Skylanders just to complete the 256 combos lol. Imaginators, because I loved the idea of bringing your imagination to life and believe me, I have a BIG imagination!) Overall, Skylanders is always and FOREVER will be my favorite game to play! Although, it is sad for Skylanders to discontinue (after Imaginators), but I do have a idea of my own Skylanders game, that can revive the franchise. Spoiler Alert: it's a Skylanders *spin-off* game
There was also Mini Mario & Friends: amiibo Challenge, which was a game that required amiibo to get the full experience, but that was a fun Lemmings-style puzzle game with tiny wind-up toys that look like Mario characters.

I didn't own an Amiibo until the Steve one. Now, the Toys to Life series I did get into (not Skylanders, sorry), was Lego Dimensions. You had Portal, Sonic, Doctor Who, The Simpsons, Back to the Future. Midway Arcade was represented with just roms of old Midway games baked into it. (required the figure and he's one of the most expensive now; but still) You had games like Joust and Rampage, not Lego-fied and playable IN a Lego game!
I think amibo are more desplay items were as skylanders have more of a use. I collect skylanders but I can see myself picking up some amibo to display in the future.

Both Skylanders and Amiibo are equally fun to collect. However, I think Skylanders are better for their value/playability within their games, while I think Amiibo are better for peoples wallets since Amiibo aren’t required at all to beat practically every Nintendo game they are compatible with.
I like the Skylanders the best. I do have a huge collection of Amiibos. I don't have them all though. I also have the Disney Infinity and Legos Dimensions figures also.

My stance on this? I’ve only ever bought 3 amiibos. I’ve bought nearly every superchargered combo, half the swap force, half the trap team, all the giants, a good majority of senseis, and some cores from the first 4 Skylanders games. I think the main thing is that amiibos don’t really do much other than a costume in Mario kart or some food in Bresth of the Wild, where as every character skylander gives you well, a new character to play. There’s some overlap between a few but each one tends to hav their own unique plays types
Just so you know, Amiibo festival isn’t the only game that REQUIRES Amiibo to play because Mini Mario & Friends Amiibo Challenge also requires them to play (The Mario amiibos do more than other amiibos but you NEED an Amiibo to play). Also, it’s actually a pretty good game unlike Amiibo festival.

I like both skylanders and amiibo’s, I don’t have any amiibo figures they’re still very good quality produced, amiibo’s to me were more of figures you can collect to make your bedroom look nicer and become an epic gamer while skylanders were more of every figures is a weapon and the more you collect the bigger your weapon arsenal gets, and how every skylander figure is like a candy bar where each of them are sweet in their own unique way with preferences and opinion based, the amiibo’s I’d want are all of the splatoon amiibo’s and a dk amiibo after watching the super Mario movie, though skylanders is the first successful well known toys to life game before amiibo and both skylanders and amiibo’s were sold in their own unique ways
As a fan of Both, i like having amiibo of my favorite Nintendo characters and from other games (like the Shovel knight amiibos) but i think skylanders are better imo because you can actually play as the character you buy rather than fight/unlock specific awards with amiibo
Even if Skylanders may never see a revival even after the Microsoft deal goes through, I strongly feel that a Skylanders character (I’m fine with someone like Stealth Elf, Eruptor, Gill Grunt or Jet-Vac, but I REALLY want Kaos just so we can have a franchise in Smash repped by the main antagonist of the series (And no, Kazuya does NOT count IMO due to the lore of Tekken changing in each entry, plus I want a 3rd Party franchise where the single/first rep is villain character who was always evil from the get-go)) in Smash would be a perfect addition to the roster not only to pay tribute to the very trend that created amiibo, but also place it in high regard as Smash does with the franchises with playable characters.
But NOT before we get Crash Bandicoot and Spyro as playable characters, as they’re the more high priority Activision reps that I’m sure everyone can agree on getting in first
Na, the reason people like Amiibo better is bc of the brand name. Nintendo has a stronger brand name and is more collectible than Skylanders. I still prefer the creativity in Skylanders more tho

Okay well for me while I do like the design of the amibo the little clear stand on a lot them really annoys me quite a lot of the time and the Skylanders don't have that. I also love how Skylanders took the time to make sure all the figures actually stand up pretty easily except for enigma for whatever reason. I also have a huge attachment to the Skylanders as I have been playing since I was 6 and I only have the sonic amiibo because he's sonic and I never really liked mario and still don't. Skylanders for me are definitely better

Skylanders because it was the very first game I played on a console I have a Wii to play Skylanders Spyro adventure - superchargers and I need to buy a new PS3 to play imaginators because the cat peed on my PS3 a few years ago and i also need to rebuy Spyro adventure and giants because i lost them for the wii.
