I was, with family and friends, in this trip in 2017. I had my birthday during that trip. It's such a wonderful memory...

It is heartwarming to see these magnificent castles/fortresses rebuilt/restored to almost original, pristine condition. They deserve it, and hopefully will be kept in their pristine state. What a beautiful area of a beautiful country. No wonder so many fairy tales originated here!

Greetings back to you in Koblentz. My Father was born in Boppard am Rhein, and on my 50th birthday, brought me to Oktoberfest, on my birthday. Now I am 85, and the wonderful memories enjoyed there with my Cousins light up my heart often. Nickenig Family!

A soldier of the legion lay dying in Algiers…. I was born in Bingen on the Rhine.
Can’t hear that town without thinking of that poem.

Hiken earlier this October between the town I was staying (Steeg), Burg Stahleck, then down to Bacharach, then up to Heinrich-Heine-Blick and all the way along the wonderful trail to Oberwesel. Was a dream come true, took a lot of pictures and hope to get back, to hike all the route from Bingen to Koblenz.

Nice touch: the melody from 4:15 is an adaptation of Silcher's score to Heine's Loreley poem ("Ich weiß nicht, was soll es bedeuten")

It's so beautiful. I love in Bonn, not too far from Koblenz. Today I went to the Drachenfels (dragon rock) mountain next to the Rhine with a palace and some old castle ruins on it

Lorelai rock has been a danger for shipping from time immemorial. there is a dangerous promontory at the base of that cliff which is deceptively covered by ovelaping waves of the Rhine. even with modern technology ships find it difficult to navigate this bit. last major accident happend in 2011 when a barge with sulphuric acid capsized

On the roof of Katz Castle you can see a stupid face.
On the roof of Klopp Castle you can see a sinister face.
That's an observation made by my student of English - Kuba.

In my opinion, the Marksburg is the best (and a truly original) Rhein castle, while the Pfaltzgrafenstein is the most picturesque. On the other hand, the Mäuseturm is a phony and a huge disappointment. In my opinion...
