  • African American Studies Historian Professor, Maurice Hobson, Ph.D. visited the historic Mary Mac’s Tea Room in Atlanta, Georgia to meet with long-time servers Evelyn and Martha. Childhood friends and natives of Crawfordville, Georgia, Ms. Evelyn and Ms. Martha have been at Mary Mac’s for over 40 years, working their way from the kitchen, to the front of the house, becoming some of the first African American servers in the restaurant’s history.
In true southern fashion, Professor Hobson, Ms. Evelyn, and Ms. Martha sat down for brunch to discuss the history of Mary Mac’s Tea Room, its impact on the community, the lasting legacy of Atlanta Tea Rooms, and the soul food.
