I get what you mean, my family has been around southern Italy for a LONG TIME. We only know the exact locations of some of my people, from which they come from Bari, Italy (which was founded by Greeks and was on the coast of the heel, so there were other close colonies to it) and Sicily, Italy. My family has been able to keep the heavy traits of Mediterranean appearance so much so that one would say we look Greek even though we call ourselves eastern Mediterranean or Italian. Any person who has been to all kinds of places in Greece know that Greece not only is incredibly beautiful, but also countless of places, regions and islands that are so gorgeous, that it's impossible to rank it in a top 10. Although the places in this top 10 from Touropia are ofcourse all really incredible, there are endless other places in Greece that could have been in this list. You mention any of the Ionian islands: Lefkada or Corfu, or Kefalonia or Zakynthos which all are indeed gorgeous. But one could have mentioned any of the sporades islands group or any of the argo saronic islands group, or Thassos, or Halkidiki, or the province of Macedonia, or Epirus with it's incredible alpine mountains sceneries, or the Pindus mountains, Central Greece, and so on and so on.

To 16.000 km of the most crystal clear coastlines, 6000 breathtaking islands each unique, 32% forested areas, incredible culture, unparalleled history, Incredibly picturesque towns and villages, the highest biodiversity of Europe, and even more so the highest endemic species, which means the species that only grow there and nowhere else, which has to do with the 80% mountains and 6000 islands. Then Greece is one of the most hot spring rich countries in the world with 800 natural hot springs. All in all out of my own knowledge there are countless of places and gems that are not mentioned, that are just magical.

Maybe you can go on a summer. But be careful if you do, becuz corona things aren't doing that good on us. And the language is hard, but you can practice and learn easily.
When I traveled through Greece I found that Santorini was the most overrated destination. The island is perfect for instagram pictures however it’s overrun with tourist. Some people may not mind this but when you visit smaller islands you realise that Santorini doesn’t have the relaxed vibe that is created by the Greek locals. The entire island is devoted to tourism which takes away from the cultural experience in my opinion. I honestly felt although the Greek people had given away their island for tourist. Also issues of pollution can be seen on the island as tourism creates massive piles of garbage. I was surprised that islands such as Rhodes or Kefalonia were not on the list. Also smaller islands like Hydra and Simi are a hundred times more authentic and enjoyable than Santorini. Glad I experienced Santorini but I do think it’s overrated. Just my opinion.
i go to greece every year and stay for a couple months to visit my family and i always avoid popular islands because they’re not enjoyable. they’re so americanized 🥱 i recommend other islands like Kephalonia and Parga. they are still touristy as all beach places in greece are, but not nearly as much as santorini and mykonos. the water is beautiful and there’s a lot to see. i love going there every year it never gets old
I agree with you. I was fortunate to visit Greece, including Santorini, Mykonos, Crete, Rhodos, Athens, Aegina, Corfu, Meteoria and Northern Greece, includingThessaloniki in the mid 1970's and finally - to my father's ancestral village in Epirus (close to Albania).when I was in highschool. We were fortunate to have two full months to explore these places with my father who spoke both English and Greek fluently. Greece is such an amazing country. Small, yet rich in history and variety with really hospitable people. If you even TRY to speak a little Greek, Greeks truly appreciate the gesture, although many Greeks speak several languages, like many other European nations do. Those islands were quite different back then: tourists - yes, but not like today. I agree with you that there are so many other islands in the 6 island groups of Greece that are worth visiting and exploring and that are more authentic, with an authentic and more traditional island vibe, and although there may be tourists, they aren't overrun. I would never visit Mykonos again: it's the most expensive place to isit, stay overnight and eat and crammed with tourists. Also, as you mentioned, many other islands, are worthy and perhaps worthier of a visit. Final suggestion: if you have the option, do NOT visit Greece during the summer: just too many tourists. The best months to visit, are April-June, and September through October. You'll still have warm enough water for swimming, but it won't be quite so hot and not so overrun with tourists. Early spring and winter can bring rough seas and rain and intense wind storms, so not as good for touring but still, you'll find the best prices during those times. Northern Greece gets heavy snowfall in winter and there are some good ski destinations, like Serbia, that are much less expensive than the Alps in France,Italy or Austria.
I don't live in Santorini,i live in Volos on the mainland,but i work during the season there. Santorini is a magic island if you are going to experience it and not try to impress your friends with pics. Although it has views that are unmatched,smaller island is where you are going to find the real Greece. Overcomrcialized,yes. can't argue with that
I'm Greek and you are so right. I live in Athens and in vacations,my family and i we prefer some small islands like "Αιγινα","Πορος","Αγκίστρι,"Μέθανα","Ύδρα" which they are small, beautiful and you can enjoy the quiet. Also,if you visit Greece again i suggest you to go in places like "Καβάλα", "Έδεσσα"," Παλαιός Άγιος Αθανάσιος","Μυτιλήνη","Μετέωρα" if also like mountains. It's just perfect. My family and i used to travel a lot in our country, fortunately only here so i know a lot of good places. I hope someday,when corona stops ruin our life to visit many places here in Greece
I was in Zakynthos, Greece 🇬🇷 with my father in summer 2008 and we had a good time over there. It was very hot and I got badly sunburnt but fortunately I did not get a skin cancer. Zakynthos is a beautiful island and it has wonderful beaches 🏖. Good evening from Ireland 🇮🇪

Great video! I learned so much. When I saw Athens was number two, I was like...well what could possibly be number one. As soon as Santorini came up, I was like...oh yeah, that majestic place! I need to plan a backpacking tour around Greece and visit all these places!
Yes, but take note that Greece is incredibly gorgeous. This list is really good, but I can tell that Greece has thousands of incredible magical places. Greece has breathtaking landscapes, 80% mountains, of which 20% of all of Europe's Ultra peak mountains lies in Greece. Ultra peak mountains are mountains that rise more than 1500 meters above it's lowest surrounding region, from Alpine to Subtropical.
To 16.000 km of the most crystal clear coastlines, 6000 breathtaking islands each unique, 32% forested areas, incredible culture, unparalleled history, Incredibly picturesque towns and villages, the highest biodiversity of Europe, and even more so the highest endemic species, which means the species that only grow there and nowhere else, which has to do with the 80% mountains and 6000 islands. Then Greece is one of the most hot spring rich countries in the world with 800 natural hot springs. All in all out of my own knowledge there are countless of places and gems that are not mentioned, that are just magical.

Zak Wright yes for sure . i am a Greek and i suggest you to visit protected park of Vikos - Aoos , beaudifull kliffes wild animals and a gorgeus canyon with a bleu river

I am not Greek, but I’ve been increased since 77 going back-and-forth even live there for three years you are right it’s not just these places that they mention, but there are so many others that they are so beautiful God willing I’m going next summer again

I have always wanted to go to Greece since I was just a little girl. I cant wait to go someday and play the mandolin on a beach.
Maybe you can go on a summer. But be careful if you do, becuz corona things aren't doing that good on us. And the language is hard, but you can practice and learn easily.

When I traveled through Greece I found that Santorini was the most overrated destination. The island is perfect for instagram pictures however it’s overrun with tourist. Some people may not mind this but when you visit smaller islands you realise that Santorini doesn’t have the relaxed vibe that is created by the Greek locals. The entire island is devoted to tourism which takes away from the cultural experience in my opinion. I honestly felt although the Greek people had given away their island for tourist. Also issues of pollution can be seen on the island as tourism creates massive piles of garbage. I was surprised that islands such as Rhodes or Kefalonia were not on the list. Also smaller islands like Hydra and Simi are a hundred times more authentic and enjoyable than Santorini. Glad I experienced Santorini but I do think it’s overrated. Just my opinion.
i go to greece every year and stay for a couple months to visit my family and i always avoid popular islands because they’re not enjoyable. they’re so americanized 🥱 i recommend other islands like Kephalonia and Parga. they are still touristy as all beach places in greece are, but not nearly as much as santorini and mykonos. the water is beautiful and there’s a lot to see. i love going there every year it never gets old
I agree with you. I was fortunate to visit Greece, including Santorini, Mykonos, Crete, Rhodos, Athens, Aegina, Corfu, Meteoria and Northern Greece, includingThessaloniki in the mid 1970's and finally - to my father's ancestral village in Epirus (close to Albania).when I was in highschool. We were fortunate to have two full months to explore these places with my father who spoke both English and Greek fluently. Greece is such an amazing country. Small, yet rich in history and variety with really hospitable people. If you even TRY to speak a little Greek, Greeks truly appreciate the gesture, although many Greeks speak several languages, like many other European nations do. Those islands were quite different back then: tourists - yes, but not like today. I agree with you that there are so many other islands in the 6 island groups of Greece that are worth visiting and exploring and that are more authentic, with an authentic and more traditional island vibe, and although there may be tourists, they aren't overrun. I would never visit Mykonos again: it's the most expensive place to isit, stay overnight and eat and crammed with tourists. Also, as you mentioned, many other islands, are worthy and perhaps worthier of a visit. Final suggestion: if you have the option, do NOT visit Greece during the summer: just too many tourists. The best months to visit, are April-June, and September through October. You'll still have warm enough water for swimming, but it won't be quite so hot and not so overrun with tourists. Early spring and winter can bring rough seas and rain and intense wind storms, so not as good for touring but still, you'll find the best prices during those times. Northern Greece gets heavy snowfall in winter and there are some good ski destinations, like Serbia, that are much less expensive than the Alps in France,Italy or Austria.
Santorini is only for foreign tourists.Like Mukonos.Both very expensive islands.There are far more better islands to relax.
I don't live in Santorini,i live in Volos on the mainland,but i work during the season there. Santorini is a magic island if you are going to experience it and not try to impress your friends with pics. Although it has views that are unmatched,smaller island is where you are going to find the real Greece. Overcomrcialized,yes. can't argue with that
I'm Greek and you are so right. I live in Athens and in vacations,my family and i we prefer some small islands like "Αιγινα","Πορος","Αγκίστρι,"Μέθανα","Ύδρα" which they are small, beautiful and you can enjoy the quiet. Also,if you visit Greece again i suggest you to go in places like "Καβάλα", "Έδεσσα"," Παλαιός Άγιος Αθανάσιος","Μυτιλήνη","Μετέωρα" if also like mountains. It's just perfect. My family and i used to travel a lot in our country, fortunately only here so i know a lot of good places. I hope someday,when corona stops ruin our life to visit many places here in Greece

I was in Zakynthos, Greece 🇬🇷 with my father in summer 2008 and we had a good time over there. It was very hot and I got badly sunburnt but fortunately I did not get a skin cancer. Zakynthos is a beautiful island and it has wonderful beaches 🏖.
