@@jamescampoccio1152 He did die in service, but not because the plane was shot down. Historians from his alma mater, the University of Colorado, did 2-year investigation about a decade ago. Miller was scheduled to travel to Paris on Dec. 12 1944 to finalize his orchestra's transfer to the Continent. He was repeatedly delayed by weather and opted to hitch a ride with a poker buddy instead of waiting. What he didn't know was that: > the flight was unauthorized and not cleared for travel > the plane, a tiny UC-64 transport, had a defective fuel system > weather over the Channel was still bad > the plane's pilot wasn't qualified for adverse conditions The UC-64 was seen by coast spotters on the standard SHAEF non-combat flight path, so it's known they weren't in a combat zone and were too far away from the RAF bomb-drop range to have been hit by jettisoned ordnance. This is far and away the best iteration of the Miller band anywhere in the world in the last fifty years. Not only is the precision exactly what Miller would have demanded, but the feel of the band (which is nearly impossible to replicate) is on full display here. There’s no doubt in my mind that Glenn Miller would have been pleased with this band most of all.
I am old enough to have heard this wonderful music when I was a lad. Glenn Miller is still my favorite. Love the guys putting their mutes on their heads. Glenn’s guys did this.
Hello Brendan, I am also 84 and have listened to this type of music for a very long time and I love it. This is the first time I have listened to this band and they are great. The music reminds me of my dancing days where we always had bands playing live on a Saturday night. Cheers from Scotland.
Glenn Miller Orchestra Biography Alton Glenn Miller (March 1, 1904-presumably December 15, 1944), was an American jazz musician, arranger, composer, and band leader in the swing era. He was one of the best-selling recording artists from 1939 to 1942, leading one of the best known "Big Bands". Miller's signature recordings include: "In the Mood", "Tuxedo Junction", "Chattanooga Choo Choo", "Moonlight Serenade", "Little Brown Jug", and "Pennsylvania 6-5000". He's notable as well for playing numerous times for the U.S. military. While travelling to entertain U.S. troops in France during World War II, Miller's plane disappeared in bad weather. His body was never found. The Glenn Miller Orchestra was originally formed in 1937 by Glenn Miller. It's unique, tight and popular sound was produced by arranging for a clarinet and tenor saxophone playing melody, while three other saxophones played the harmony. Miller had already formed one band before this in 1936, but he dissolved it as he considered it too similar to other bands of the era. After the disappearance (and presumed death) of Miller in 1944, the band was reconstituted under the direction of Tex Beneke, its lead tenor saxophonist, singer, and one of Miller's longtime close friends. A few years later, the Miller estate, having parted ways with Beneke, hired Ray McKinley, principal drummer in Miller's Army Air Force band, to organize a new "ghost band" in 1956. The group went on, playing as a tribute to Miller's memory.
There is no band like the Glen MILLER BAND and other such groups in existence today. And this is a sad,sad statement on the quality of music intertainment. It is a terrible loss culturally, and artisticturaly about our society. I am so glad that I lived in an era to have had the marvelous exposure to the big band era. GOD BLESS ALL OF THE GREAT MUSICIANS

The greatest generation for sure. Music and the sacrifice they did for all of us, my salute to all, they gave all
Maybe its just me, but this is the finest "Miller" orchestra that I have ever heard.....Have my 1st Miller LPs from '58 when my parents bought me my first stereo. Just great here guys. What any of you who performed at this performance how I feel.
How can anyone thumb down this beautiful music video? It's inhuman not to like it!
It isn't inhuman, it's stupid and it's a certificate of a lack of musical hearing. I find them wonderful. Excuse me, I don't find them THEY ARE!!!
My papa is a great fan!!! and a former saxophone player...now he can't appreciate it anymore...he is having dementia...can't help myself but cry...but happy to listen this beautiful ochestra

The sound engineering is as top notch as the band. Great presentation!

WHAT AN UNIQUE EXPERIENCE WE HAD IN OUR LIVES BY WATCHING THESE ETERNAL AND UNIQUE MUSICS FROM SUCH A GENIUS COMPOSER AND MUSICIAN AHEAD OF HIS TIME .
GOD BLESS GLENN MILLER.
His band definitely lived on, even in 2019 this music is amazing. I would bet none of them ever imagined it would still be moving forward this far into the future.
I'm 54 years old, love this music since was a kid thanks to my mama and papa

I grew up listening to music of Glenn Miller,MY dad listened to nothing but BIG Band, MY dad played the tenor sax,HE would go to the basement and play my MY FOOLISH HEART AGAIN AND AGAIN.I MISS THOSE DAYS.😢😢😢😊😊
I was lucky enough to play trombone in our high school jazz band. We played all the greatest, including Glenn Miller.
This music sends me to Paradise and alleviates my pains when thinking I will be near blind because of open eye glaucoma which seems to be incurable at the moment.
.
My husband used to play in a swing band, he played trombone, this was of my favourite to hear, when he was playing live
I think Jan is lovely .K
This is far and away the best iteration of the Miller band anywhere in the world in the last fifty years. Not only is the precision exactly what Miller would have demanded, but the feel of the band (which is nearly impossible to replicate) is on full display here.
There’s no doubt in my mind that Glenn Miller would have been pleased with this band most of all.
As a member of the band, your comment make me happy! Thank you! (I played the trumpet solos..)
RELAJANTE.
How did we go from this beautiful music to music of today?
I blame AOC and 'the squad."
Its the best of real music in 1940s during the war and extended thru a lot of 1950s
I am old enough to have heard this wonderful music when I was a lad. Glenn Miller is still my favorite. Love the guys putting their mutes on their heads. Glenn’s guys did this.

If we can't bring back the good old days, at least we can still listen to the music of that era.
exactly
It’s amazing how in the 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, 50’s... This was the music that America Loved ! Personally, I’ll take
Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadian’s
not only america but almost all the world
I am 84 ,you never stop enjoying the beat Mom & dad always had this on on the old FADA radio & feeding me a bottle(milk).Never stopped listening.
Hello Brendan, I am also 84 and have listened to this type of music for a very long time and I love it. This is the first time I have listened to this band and they are great. The music reminds me of my dancing days where we always had bands playing live on a Saturday night. Cheers from Scotland.
Glenn Miller Orchestra Biography
Alton Glenn Miller (March 1, 1904-presumably December 15, 1944), was an American jazz musician, arranger, composer, and band leader in the swing era.
This Glenn Miller band is good. If Glenn Miller would be alive today, he would be proud to hear this band playing his piece of the 1940's! 👍😁😁😁
Exactly as we remember it played. ❤ SUPERB. Thank you
The two movies Glenn Miller starred in are available on TH-cam and are well worth the look-see!
