I dont mean to be so off topic but does someone know a tool to log back into an Instagram account? I somehow lost the login password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me.
Thanks for your patience on new episodes everyone! We're super stoked that you like In Focus so much!. We're working on the 2013 schedule now with Mike Manzoori and will keep you posted on air dates.
For those who were as confused as me when they got to the graph part; you right click on the graph and pick "edit speed graph". Your welcome, saved you 30 minutes of research and frustration.
I use Premiere as well. Shoot in 60 FPS, once your in Premiere, all you need to do is click on your clip and press Command R, or go to Edit and choose speed and duration and make it 50%. Simple. You can make it faster or slower if you want but it's important that you shoot in 60 FPS. Or else your footage won't be smooth.
At the bottom, click on the little symbol two on the left from the Magnet (it's the Choose Graph Type button). Click "Edit Speed Graph" and you should be good!
@Matt Hunter, you're right...the problem isn't the cameras guys, it's the debate. Fuck it and go skating...it's the man behind the camera that matters too.
If you guys don't have money for the big cameras to do higher frame rates, you can use Twixtor. It creates clips in between the frames of your footage you already recorded. It basically creates super slo-mo out of regular footage. It's mostly for fun though because it does create some distortion unless the main "subject" is on a clean background. example: sky, white, wall, green screen, etc.
Where was the in focus yesterday, it's been 2 weeks now and it's starting to become a habit, and please to a video on the editing side of thing, preferably one that explains about colour correction and curves thank you
@RIDE CHANNEL is it more or less accurate using the graph and just a start and stop key frame and actually making the ramp rather than using the velocity approach ?
Are videos edited on a 30p 1920x1080 timeline or 720p 1280x720 timeline? Generally speaking, what is the preferred frame rate for skateboarding videos? Perhaps Ride Channel could make a tutorial on HDSLR videos for the Web: First - State the settings on the camera (Frame Rate, Shutter Speed). Second - Explain the conversion process Third - Settings on the editing program Fourth - Export Settings Timeline should comprise of: a line, a static slow-motion shot, a ramped slow-motion shot.
As a filmer & editor the way he is teaching how to ramp slomo the clip has 4 things that make it was longer & more complicated then it has to be, watch other tutorials on AE on how to ramp and itill save you some time.
wouldnt you want your editing timebase to be at a frame rate closer to 30 when slowing down 60p footage so that you are using the extra frames to slow the footage and not interpolating between frames? example would be i have all footage filmed at 60p. i set up a new comp in fcp or premiere (whichever you prefer) at 30p.
all 60p footage will play using half the frames but still at full speed until you choose to use them by slowing down the footage thus making use of the extra frames instead of slowing 60fps down more thus defeating the purpose of higher fps. am i completely misunderstanding some logic?
He's not saying don't edit in FCP. He's saying generally you edit the effects elsewhere such as AE then you can bring them back in to FCP. You have better results and more control in an application such as AE.
"Try not to overdo these slow-mos" - Ha, he saved the most important information for the very end :P There's seriously few things that annoy me more than un-neccesary slow-mo overkill.
if i want to make the curve so i drag everything to the right, than the part that i drag goes to the right but it also go's up. so if i'm done with my slowmo my last part is fast forwarded. how can i fix this ?
russel is one of the best out but srsly one of the longest way to remap and changed in the graph editor all his precise numbers. start in the graph and end in the graph section, way better
hi, i've got a problem, my graph in after effects looks like this shrani .si/f/3A/68/1469s0T2/after.jpg what do i do to make it look like on the video, a straight line? thank you
Something is wrong with this because I do what he says and it does not turn out the same whatsoever. It just shows some diagonally increasing line and when i move anything the video gets reversed. EDIT: I did not notice that the graph was automatically set to time and not speed...
Yo can someone help me i was shooting with my canon hfs100 shooting 60 frames per second, i drag it into after effects and then a green screen flashes through the clip every half second or so. Anyone know why?
HE didn't need to because he's done it before. My settings and possibly other people's settings was on auto select graph and it selected the wrong graph. Just trying to help people who had the same problem; obviously yours worked correctly though...
+skatertwig26 Look in the comments. The dude in the video commented: 'At the bottom, click on the little symbol two on the left from the Magnet (it's the Choose Graph Type button). Click "Edit Speed Graph" and you should be good!' I was stuck on this too.
Sony vegas on a mac? Nah dude. wont be able to run it Use premier and After effects or even Final Cut. but you want this ramped slo mo so use after effects. Premier can do it too but not with audio i believe
i wish they still put these out every monday..
I dont mean to be so off topic but does someone know a tool to log back into an Instagram account?

@Landen Brady instablaster ;)
Respect for this, respect for ALL cameramen around the world, without you all we wouldn't be watching these.
Thanks for your patience on new episodes everyone! We're super stoked that you like In Focus so much!. We're working on the 2013 schedule now with Mike Manzoori and will keep you posted on air dates.
Thank you so much! I haven't found anybody else explaining the gradual changes in time!
That's the most helpful In Focus yet! Keep the editing videos coming!
Finally an awesome tutorial for ramp slow mo.
i love people like you:D
show love for both! HD and VX all day
This is exactly what i needed to know! I love the quality of all infocus videos!!
For those who were as confused as me when they got to the graph part; you right click on the graph and pick "edit speed graph". Your welcome, saved you 30 minutes of research and frustration.
In Focus videos are the shit! love them
About time! Only a week late!
Please put up more episodes
Ben nordberg killin it for England!

omg thats a frickin huf jacket russel is wearin!!!!!!!!!!
i love the vx because of the gnarly glitches

they should do one on how to get noticed for filming and editing in the skateboard world. and how to make it look better
will we get another one next week since we didnt get one last week ? :D
@RIDE CHANNEL is it more or less accurate using the graph and just a start and stop key frame and actually making the ramp rather than using the velocity approach ?
On some cameras in the menu there is a option called smiths slow record which does awsome slow motion but sacrifices audi
do you usually do this stuff to clips before you add them into a timeline of a video? or is this just as an example?
Are videos edited on a 30p 1920x1080 timeline or 720p 1280x720 timeline?

badass tutorial

Thank you!
I think it means the playback heads or the recording heads on the camera were dirty. I used to get those all the time on my old mini DV cam.
Make a color grading tutorial with Russell!
If you guys are this late, the next episode better be kick ass!
wouldnt you want your editing timebase to be at a frame rate closer to 30 when slowing down 60p footage so that you are using the extra frames to slow the footage and not interpolating between frames? example would be i have all footage filmed at 60p. i set up a new comp in fcp or premiere (whichever you prefer) at 30p.
So sick
me too. did you try to drag just one keyframe?
do you guys have tips for doing slow motion when recording at 30fps?
all 60p footage will play using half the frames but still at full speed until you choose to use them by slowing down the footage thus making use of the extra frames instead of slowing 60fps down more thus defeating the purpose of higher fps. am i completely misunderstanding some logic?
for some reason Ae won't let me click and drag the grey box, what am I doing wrong?
would you prefer a dslr or a camcorder for filming freestyle sports?
It would have been nice if Russel had mentioned moire and aliasing problems with dslrs when shooting 60p.
Thanks a lot!
do more of the SKATE series videos
whats the difference in this method of ramp slow mo to just editing it on the graph? it seems a lot more work this way
awesome
ramp slow mo in final cut pro x takes 5 seconds to do, i love it
He's not saying don't edit in FCP. He's saying generally you edit the effects elsewhere such as AE then you can bring them back in to FCP. You have better results and more control in an application such as AE.
What lens did you guys shoot with on those clips on the 60D?
"Try not to overdo these slow-mos" - Ha, he saved the most important information for the very end :P There's seriously few things that annoy me more than un-neccesary slow-mo overkill.
what kind of computer do you use? mine would no joke take about 10 minutes to do one clip like that.
what dose it mean when u get those green bars on vx footage????
Ben Nordberg is unreal!!!!
can u use Sony Vegas Pro 10?
yeaa nords!
if i want to make the curve so i drag everything to the right, than the part that i drag goes to the right but it also go's up. so if i'm done with my slowmo my last part is fast forwarded. how can i fix this ?
were are the new episodes
what if i want to use slow mo to sync tricks to a beat?
i suppose, I don't care for it i just think vx footy looks sicker. but i love me some good hd filming
But how do I edit slowmo with a camera phone ? Like wanna make it slow then back to regular speed
good!
russel is one of the best out but srsly one of the longest way to remap and changed in the graph editor all his precise numbers. start in the graph and end in the graph section, way better
i hav a problem: when i click on export, it doesnt show "add to render queue".. only the other 3... can someone help me?
hi, i've got a problem, my graph in after effects looks like this shrani .si/f/3A/68/1469s0T2/after.jpg what do i do to make it look like on the video, a straight line? thank you
After effects wont playback footage in realtime!? Any help, or can this be done in Premiere pro also?
You can do a ramped slow mo in After effects way quicker too...I don't know why he did this in such a long way...
which sachtler tripod?
i used up all my snappysnaps, so now i have to draw any footage i want. it's long af, i gotta turn up like 2 hours early to draw the background
Something is wrong with this because I do what he says and it does not turn out the same whatsoever. It just shows some diagonally increasing line and when i move anything the video gets reversed.
EDIT: I did not notice that the graph was automatically set to time and not speed...
for the vegas pro please
damn that vx footy was raw as fuck
Which sachtler head is that
Russell Houghten should have done a tutorial for the incredible time lapse masking he did in Open Horizon.
they needa make a skate video with all slowmotion parts
already up a while ago
It took an extra week for this?
What about vegas pro?
"That's awesome love this camera"
Oh the condescending in his voice.
Sweet
Is it possible to just subscribe to In Focus.
the curvy guy isn't there on my after effects??
Is 50p good?
open your eyes right under the home key and above the up arrow key ...
So, I've been having problems with slowing down my 5D clips. Does anyone have any idea how to get them smooth? I use premiere.
Yo can someone help me i was shooting with my canon hfs100 shooting 60 frames per second, i drag it into after effects and then a green screen flashes through the clip every half second or so. Anyone know why?
wow. hating on skateboard filmers when he is one. good guy!
you need to change from PAL to NTC to can shoot at 60fps
@Cody McDonald that were bgspin flips
How to you get a 60D to film at 60 fps? I have a 60D but it's only goes as far as 50 fps.
change it from pal to ntsc mode in the menu settings
You probably have it set in PAL. Change it to NTSC.
yeah buddy
Yea there is an easier way, but the way he does it gives you total control on your ramped slow mo
HE didn't need to because he's done it before. My settings and possibly other people's settings was on auto select graph and it selected the wrong graph. Just trying to help people who had the same problem; obviously yours worked correctly though...
Already Did
Never did it this way, very easy!!! But when I go to the graph I do not have the curves. It still looks great without it.
+skatertwig26 Look in the comments. The dude in the video commented: 'At the bottom, click on the little symbol two on the left from the Magnet (it's the Choose Graph Type button). Click "Edit Speed Graph" and you should be good!'
I was stuck on this too.
***** Okay, cool thank you!!!
+RF BRCK Nice one i was super stuck aha
is that possible in sony vegas?
Of course it is. Just search for "Ramped SlowMo Sony Vegas" on YT and you'll find what you're searching for.
most beautiful*
Sony vegas or Final cut? Btw i am a mac user
Sony vegas
Sony vegas on a mac? Nah dude. wont be able to run it
Use premier and After effects or even Final Cut. but you want this ramped slo mo so use after effects. Premier can do it too but not with audio i believe
Pretty Sweet is edited on Final Cut
he should do a time lapse tutorial
click COMPOSITION>ADD TO RENDER QUEUE
@blankbrian hook it up with the secrets then, man!
Man he ramps it the hardest way
