I only discovered this wonderful island last year after having lived in Japan for 22 years! It's now my favourite place and I've since been back twice more. You would never know you were only a 2 hour flight from Tokyo. It's a great destination for a mini break with it's subtropical climate, white sandy beaches and crystal clear water. And the best part, virtually no tourists.😊👍
I've been to the Caribbean. That is the same blue, clear water seen there. After a week of the BLIZZARD in parts of Japan, this was a welcome escape. What a great vacation plan! Thanks for sharing - I feel warmer already.
So hard to believe this is the same country the Brawny got frozen in this time last year! 😅 We’re thankful to have avoided massive amounts of snow (so far!) this year, but I wish we could have enjoyed the warmth a teeny bit longer! 🥶😆
Wah I loved this one! Such a great feeling of adventure, travelling around with you guys on the island. All the scenery was so beautiful, especially seeing Sakurajima from the air!
I was there in October 2018. Most of the viewpoints were overgrown with plants. As a solo traveler, swimming at that time of year is not really recommended since I was alone. (But it is up to each person) You can't do much there except kayaking 28:26 and enjoying the view (if you can find a well maintained place). Best viewing point are on the west side. But what you have to admit. I have nowhere met such friendly people as there. Students bow when saying hello or crossing the street. And I was invited to dinner by a stranger. In the end, I would recommend this island only in summer. Otherwise, there are nicer places for swimming/snorkeling/diving like Miyakojima or Ishigaki.
It’s definitely a place to enjoy a slow pace of life haha we found a lot of places a bit overgrown too (I was definitely too scared of snakes popping out to roast themselves in the unseasonably warm sun to do too much exploring 😅), but I feel like it somehow adds to the island charm. Totally agree about the people too! We totally gushed at the students bowing and how little gestures like that must make the island a happier, friendlier place to live than the big cities! I’m hoping we can visit Okinawa for a full comparison soon though too 🤭
Guys, please keep coming south to Okinawa. Just general info, the Habu are active in the summer after the rainy season. They really aren't that active in the winter. Also the Awamori, you can drink it straight, but I like it with water and ice. See you guys soon in Okinawa!

I think we both forgot how much we love swimming (minus my absolute flapping getting in each time in case there was a hidden sea snek or something 🙈)! It’s been far too long and it was such a welcome change to wearing thermals and scarfs to sleep 😭😂. The excitement definitely came through in the video haha ❤️

奄美には3回行ったけど沖縄よりも好きです💙
黒糖焼酎も色んな種類があって美味しいし、鶏飯も美味しかった。何より海岸線を一周ドライブするとヤギを連れた小学生やおばあちゃんがお辞儀をして迎えたことを思い出します。
沖縄と違うところは山があってゴジラの映画の撮影に使われたり、夜の山には山の蛍や緑色の鳩などツアーで連れて行って来れたことをおもいだします。あと、早朝の海岸でヤドカリが海から陸にサワサワと移動していった風景がとても可愛かった！
