In 155lbs there are hughe fights for topuria: Majachev, Tsarukyan and Oliveira just to start. And Usman Nurmagomedov soon to enter the UFC. Never forget that Topuria is short but walks around 80kg naturally. He is an 155er cutting weight down like an animal. In the end, if his career is well directed, he will have legendary legacy. By the time he retires, he would have fought the best of his time at his weight range. And I see him with enough potential to wipe 2 divisions clear, as he is promising.
Max is a great boxer, but if Ilia only trained boxing, this guy could beat ranked boxers , that’s the difference. Ilia has only been boxing for a few years, that’s not even his main weapon and yet that’s how he has finished 90% of his fights in this division which is very scary, but the dude is a Graeco-Roman wrestler so his ground game is sensational and he hasn’t even showcased this skill and that IS SCARY. Respect for both champs, this is gonna be a great fight, but Ilia is a lot more well rounded than Max and if Ilia sees that there’s trouble standing with Holloway, he’s gonna take him down , so there’s that.

I'm a massive fan of Ilia, I'm from Spain, BUT I respect so much Max and I really know the dog and experienced fighter he is, plus the really good boxer/striker he is. Additionally is much taller than Ilia (the reach is a plus), and the high kicks could be a problem for him. I'm more than sure that Max is being prepared for that situation of the game (I guess ilia is smart enough to be to block that part out). BUT don't pull out Max on this fight, because styles makes fights, and Volks beating Max 3 times (with 2 very very close fights) doesn't mean anything. MMA is not maths, is styles, nights, moments and some lucky. So, for me this is a 60-40 in favour of Ilia.
I think Max needs to use his kicks more , spinning kicks and high kicks can make the difference, although Ilia’s ground game might be the game changer.

I hate to minimize his victory over Volk, but that was a fast turnaround for Volk, after that headkick KO by Islam. Aside from Volk, Ilia's biggest win was a 5 round decision against Emmett who is a fantastic fighter. However, Max is at a different level than Emmett. Being the first to KO Max would be crazy, and doing it in the first round would be insane. I don't see it happening. I think Max gets his hand raised after a 5 round war.

That doesn't mean he cannot be, but the odds are that his chin has been tested against some elite competition. As for being submitted, Max hasn't been submitted aside from his very first fight in the UFC against Dustin, which was over 12 years ago. I think you're underestimating Max. I'm not hating on Ilia. What I'm saying is we simply don't know what Ilia is capable of - his full potential. There's just not as many data points against elite competition, whereas Max has been going against Top5 competition for about a decade now. If Ilia does KO max - not necessarily in the first round but in any round - that's a tremendous achievement. It's going to be an amazing fight for sure.

That’s actually not true. You see, what had happened was that the UFC set up a BMF title fight between Max Holloway and Justin Gaethje at UFC 300. It was a hard fought battle but at the very last second of the last round, Holloway knocked out Justin Gaethje to win the BMF title. You might have seen the clip online. So actually, Max Holloway is the real BMF. Ilia was watching in the crowd though 😃

This is such an incredible match up. Holloway is very slick, so good in distance and countering. He seems to also be in top shape right now. And Ilia is just a new breed of MMA striker and fighter. Very technical boxing, good takedown defence,good octagon control and relentless pressure. It’s going to be a fight at the very top level

I'm a massive fan of Ilia, I'm from Spain, BUT I respect so much Max and I really know the dog and experienced fighter he is, plus the really good boxer/striker he is. Additionally is much taller than Ilia (the reach is a plus), and the high kicks could be a problem for him. I'm more than sure that Max is being prepared for that situation of the game (I guess ilia is smart enough to be to block that part out). BUT don't pull out Max on this fight, because styles makes fights, and Volks beating Max 3 times (with 2 very very close fights) doesn't mean anything. MMA is not maths, is styles, nights, moments and some lucky. So, for me this is a 60-40 in favour of Ilia.

I love Ilia, and appreciate his confidence. The Max fight will definitely let us know exactly where he's at. I hate to minimize his victory over Volk, but that was a fast turnaround for Volk, after that headkick KO by Islam. Aside from Volk, Ilia's biggest win was a 5 round decision against Emmett who is a fantastic fighter. However, Max is at a different level than Emmett. Being the first to KO Max would be crazy, and doing it in the first round would be insane. I don't see it happening. I think Max gets his hand raised after a 5 round war.

@@neton8471 I don't think it's crazy at all. Do you think Ilia hits harder than Justin? Max has gone 5 rounds a few times and been hit hard heavy hitters and never been KO'd. That doesn't mean he cannot be, but the odds are that his chin has been tested against some elite competition. As for being submitted, Max hasn't been submitted aside from his very first fight in the UFC against Dustin, which was over 12 years ago. I think you're underestimating Max. I'm not hating on Ilia. What I'm saying is we simply don't know what Ilia is capable of - his full potential. There's just not as many data points against elite competition, whereas Max has been going against Top5 competition for about a decade now. If Ilia does KO max - not necessarily in the first round but in any round - that's a tremendous achievement. It's going to be an amazing fight for sure.
