95% of F rank players are smurfs there to stomp on new players. With infinite accounts on a single id, B rank+ players keep a 1000 mmr account just to go vs occasional new player.
@ yup, I’ve discovered this lol. I worked through the smurfs and got to mid-E and have a much more comfortable time of having good competitive matches way more often. I just can’t play after midnight because i guess that’s about 6pm in Korea and thats when i routinely get smurf smashed now lol

I was fluctuating between F and D for 3 years having platinum in SC2, 1600 MMR WC3, 1000 mmr AoE4. Only in brood war you realize that 95% of player base still better than you and it’s harsh reality.
Watching this guy discover that there aren't new players on the ladder is pretty funny. My experience is that new players are found around ~800 mmr but new accounts start at ~1200 mmr so it's ugly starting off.

I find these low mmr series super entertaining, explaining the thought process of you going through the basic builds is the best way for a new player to learn imo, like the 2 fac opening in all match ups > explaining transitions into mid/late game etc is extremely useful. Exactly what u said near the end, instead of playing like a potato its much better when u play your build and just exlain as u go that shits amazing.

I'm high F/low E zerg and understand the concepts of seeing Protoss go forge FE vs gate FE and basics of muta micro and zergling run bys and contains and preventing toss or T from taking a third blah blah. I definitely don't have the game knowledge of higher ranked players, can't multi-task at all, and my micro is pretty trash. When he started off the video saying "you don't need to scout your opponent" and "you don't need upgrades, you don't need siege mode" and "just attack move and never stop making scvs and you'll win because no one here knows what they're doing" (and won the first game) I was like man what am I doing wrong! And then he got destroyed the next couple and I was like oh yea, that's more like it. I know he said this stream is garbage but I was having a blast
I'm in e/d rank and I hardly run into people that look like they have no clue what they're doing, even when I was f rank it was like that.. but I think it would be better (since the general skill level is higher these days) if you played like you normally would but slower and explained the build and why you are doing what you are doing.. maybe simple builds f thru d/c more advanced builds c/b thru s. I think that would be pretty cool.

I'm only 90 minutes in, but I think you overrated how "complex" getting upgrades is. It's actually a really easy concept to understand and tell new players. Make upgrade building, get upgrades. Simple. They obviously make a huge difference so just start doing that as soon as you start playing.

I'm confused why high level players expect low level players to be mentally handicapped. Low level players know what upgrades and expansions are. They know what hotkeys are. They're just bad not complete idiots. Even bronze players in sc2 can follow a build order up to mid game and do a timing attack.

I'm actually super relieved you found F/E to be stronger than anticipated, it was funny as hell too. I got completely decimated when I tried to ladder - placed in E playing my heart out and then got down to F, so I decided I have no business playing this game. Maybe it's just not super easy. I think the best thing you can do is just teach a standard build order with the timings and how to read basic cues on what your opponent is going to do. I struggled with the latter a lot. Also, when do I expand? Why? What's my cue? Also demonstrating a way of playing that is forgiving of poor mechanics and multitasking is always good, like Hawk would just build hatcheries next to one another you can box select 12 larva and build a control of hydras with one click. I can't think of what would be analagous for Terran though. Sorry for the wall of text.
Smurfing is real in StarCraft ladder, hard to know if you actually gonna be playing against same rank. Zerg's way of producing units is too different than Terran and Protoss. Since Zerg can produce mass amount of units at one time and the downside is you gotta wait for larva and check for larva if its there. There is no similar way for the other races, what you do is make multiple buildings preferably at one location and keep the unit production going steadily. The more buildings you have the more you can pop at one time simple. If Hatcheri can produce 3 units at time, you can build 3 factories to top that and so on i am thinking. As for expanding i am not sure someone can que in ..
I'm having the worst time trying to ladder right now. Opponents seem to start at 250APM. I can almost break 100APM but give myself a migraine doing it. Thinking 32 might just be too old to play BW. Too bad. Been playing since the 90s and would be nice to be able to play against other shitty old dudes like me.
Can you do this for zerg? I am low E rank and would love some zerg F-E rank structure. I know build orders but really lack execution and control. Muta micro tips and how to transition from 2 base to 3 base would be great
I used to play SC2 and was gold/plat at Heart of the Swarm on my shitty college laptop, been playing BW as Terran for 3 or 4 months now and am still around 1000-1100 MMR. The level of play you were looking for only happens below 900MMR in my experience, and most of those are Terrans of course. Once you get to 1200 and up,most players play the early and midgame very well. Agreed on just playing normal build with a bit slower apm and explaining thought process. I struggle quite a bit with deciding when to add extra factories or barracks while still on 2 base, so explaining when or why you add production after the initial opening would help a lot. Same for thought process when scouting and determining what may or may not come. P.S.: the no invisible auto wins is so true, I've noticed many F and E zergs going fast 2 base lurker, and it's hard to deal with it if going bio at this level even when I scout it.

As inspiration you (or other good BW players) could check the speedruns done in chess by chess grandmasters. They are very instuctive and I believe they can be done in every other competitive game with rankings.

I feel like your conception of the bottom of the ladder is based on 10 years ago. Now, nobody plays any video game, especially competitive games, without going through youtube tutorial hell and scouring the internet for metas and build orders... Dota2 has build orders built straight into the UI. Metagaming and min-maxing is just the norm. This is why its intimidating to be an actual new player coming to brood war, or quake, or counter strike, because people have decades of XP and I've played like 5 BW ladder games ever.
