Excellent - who knew they were this easy to make, Ive bought thousands over the years lol!. Rather than waste the mixture you could start with white, do a few stamens, put in say a pink, do a few more, add more colour, make some darker pink, add some red, do a few more, then add some blue and move to purple etc...same for blues, start with white, add a bit of blue, to baby blue stage, go deeper blue, then add some yellow and start with greens...before you know it you will have all sorts of colours xx

Thank you for this. One thing I have found is if you want fatter bulbs on the ends of the twine wait until the first drip is halfway dried and then dip again in the cornflower/glue mixture. Putting too much on at once tends to distort on the drying process as the mixture 'drips' slowly.

Great little tutorial. Even though I have lots of stamens I often find I don’t have just the “right” one. Making them is quite simple with your tutorial! Thanks. A couple of things I altered: when drying the dipped stamens I use a piece of double stick tape on a styrofoam block so if I bump it while placing another they don’t fall off.
Also, sometimes I make glittery stamens by dipping into micro beads.
Also, sometimes I want to color the twine so dye the twine first.
Making the stamens is half the fun!

Hi Ann! What an awesome idea! With the mixture- could you put a bit of cling wrap and store it for later? I was just thinking as you said that you made too much that it would be such a shame and a waste to throw it out. Thank you for sharing- I'm actually waiting on my Postie to deliver ones I purchased last week! Might be able to save some money and make my own! Thanks again!

  • @IAMGiftbearer

Great idea! I think this is better than buying stamens because you can make the exact colors you need to match your flowers. I wonder if mixing the Nuvo drops with the PVA and cornstarch mixture would create ends that are harder when dry than Nuvo drops alone would?

OMG, Ann, this is just BRILLIANT! Love that you also tried Nuvo Drops as well! I am Canadian and shop a lot on Amazon.ca and for me, stamens are not as cheap as you think so this is FANtastic! Because I was deterred from paying for these on Amazon, what I did was purchased a few different sizes of stamens in white, and then colored them with my Copic markers or alcohol ink. It also saves on having to store many different colors but I like your idea much more and as well, as you said, you could make them even bigger by giving them an extra coat or more! VIDEO REQUEST: I would love it if you could share how to use foamiran (not sure of spelling) to make flowers as I've never done that before. Thank you for sharing, dear!

Hi Ann, I was trying this last week after looking at various tutorials on you tube too. I ended up not using the colour as it was making up too much so ended up dipping in glitter, suppose you can dip in colour too x
