Käärijä genuinely is a Eurovision entry that has star quality like we haven’t seen for a long time, and he did it while barely speaking any English. I’m really excited for what comes next in his career.
I've been a Eurovision fan since my teens in the 90s, and it doesn't feel like that long ago that countries had to make a song in their native language (turns out the language rule applied from 1977 to 1998). It adds a lot of character showcasing how each language plays out in music.
@@notgonnalie5963 if you watch his performances and concerts in the past month you would see that he has huge star quality! He's a phenomenal artist and performer! And even just from his eurovision journey you can tell that he does have star quality
@@clauu9370 yes! His stage presence is insane! Two of his gigs are on Yle Areena, and i have gone back and watched them so many times! Also his speeches between the songs are so funny!
also: this man got an international crowd to learn FINNISH lyrics by heart so they could shout and sing along. the finnish people are EXCTATIC. it's not a language - or country - that gets any international recognition. Käärijä put them on the map. Duolingo is getting an insane increase in finish-course entries because of this one guy! Finnish is HARD. but when he performed internationally people still sang along. and I think that's beautiful.
@@khronoskay2749 ah, you misunderstood. it's outside of the song Chachacha that people have been learning Finnish. it's not a language - or country - that gets any international recognition. Käärijä put them on the map! language apps have been experiencing an unusual, incredibly high increase in Finnish-course entries since eurovision 2023! Finnish is HARD. but people's interest has been sparked! and I think that's beautiful 😁🇫🇮
@@khronoskay2749 but you make an excellent point actually, the chorus of the song was perfect for audience participation, while still being entirely in Finnish. that's impressive! not a lot of non-English songs have made it possible for people to sing along 😁
You're quite right. Käärijä brought the Finnish language onto the map in a completely new way. Nightwish is a great band and I respect their work. However, they do not make music in Finnish. It's absolutely amazing that a person who makes Finnish-language music gets such huge popularity for his music. That has never happened before. On the contrary, it has always been thought that our language is not suitable for foreign distribution. The whole industry has now faced a new issue for us. In fact, people have traveled from all over the world to even small towns for gigs just because of Käärijä and learned the songs by heart in Finnish. Not just a Cha Cha Cha shout. Many have also started learning the language because of the artist.
It's also true that to many Europeans it's a festival rather than a contest, and it's a mistake to get too stressed who actually won the glass trophy that is the only prize on offer.
@@pjomono4579 "Tattoo" also managed to stay in the top 10 singles chart of several european countries for 1 MONTH after Eurovision, including the UK charts, which is not common at all for recent Eurovision winners (except Maneskin), so the whole argument of "The people prefer 'Cha Cha Cha'" really falls apart, because "Tattoo" has been a huge chart hit in Europe this summer.
@@pjomono4579Loreen had already won and has an established career outside of Eurovision. The song was also a radio friendly pop song sang in English. It is listened to by people other than the ESC audience. Cha Cha Cha is the most listened to Finnish language song ever, and the genre is very different. Also kääriä was not known before ESC even in Finland. Tattoo won because of a landslide jury vote, the public's vote was overwhelmingly in Cha Cha Cha's favor 🤷
@@MVUK358 "The argument of 'the people prefer Cha Cha Cha' really falls apart" Too bad no one had, say, a vote to determine who the people liked the most, before the attention boost of winning, and without treating listens from people who would listen to an artist regardless because they are already established, as if those were themselves votes of preferance. Ah, what a different world we might live in if such data were to exist.
Käärijä is the first person to admit that he's no Whitney Houston. He is a rapper, storyteller and entertainer much more than he is a singer. He has a great aggressive edge to his rapping and in his other music he does a bit of voice acting as a storytelling tool, there are a lot of little comedic elements without making it cheap humor music. It's really quite an interesting way of using the voice, his capability of expressing emotion through rapping is pretty special. I think he has a lovely tone when singing but he obviously can't compete with trained singers in technique. However, his style of music does not need perfect singing but a big attitude and that's what he's great at. He went to Eurovision and made every single person happy for a moment. And that's really really special. As much as I appreciate great technique, music and especially Eurovision is much more than just that. Btw if you watch the official music video you can turn on English subtitles.
@@AmberSweetPea cha cha cha isn't a song with just rapping, it's a mix of different genres which includes a rap verse, but the comment is talking about Käärijä as an artist overall and not just this song
the delusion in this comment is real. He has no vocals, he sucks at rapping and had no stage presence and performance. Loreen danced circle around. It just shows yet again you people are clueless
To be very honest, I am a vocalist, who has always been, and will always be, incredibly critical of vocality and skill... But I'm also a huge Eurovision fan. The reality is that - in terms of vocals - Loreen was not the best performer Eurovision saw this year. Alika, Blanca Paloma, Mimicat and more were all absolutely phenomenal and deserved more credit. Cha cha cha, though vocally unspectacular, was so entertaining. Every time. It brings a smile to my face no matter when I hear it. And yes, it was my favourite. But it was my favourite because it had a vibe nothing else this year really had. I loved it.
I do agree that Alika/Blanca were the best vocalist of the night. However, the juries also take consideration into other aspects of the performance. 1-Vocal capacity of the artist(s) 2-Performance on stage. 3-Composition and originality of the song. 4-Overall impression of the act. That's why I can understand why Sweden was ranked high because it has the full package. I would have ranked Spain higher than Estonia but I guess Eaea was too polarizing for many.....
@@venycal Tattoo song having the full package? I have a different opinion on that. - vocal capacity: top quality. - performance on stage: good (there were better ones, e.g. Spain or Serbia...) - composition and originality of the song: medium (using standard chord progressions and well-known melodies) - overall impression: that on each jury member, and on their tastes.
I think Cha Cha Cha was the hardest performance to do except possibly Israel's this year. Was anyone else dancing and running while also delivering their vocal? Israel of course had the dance break, but that came after she didn't have to sing any more.
I'm Irish and have grown up watching it and I cannot remember another act that has ever had people singing the lyrics in-between voting or even when the presenters are talking. Graham Norton had to stop speaking numerous times from the chants. The audience there and at home were just so annoyed that the audience vote was ignored completely. Sweden had so many votes from the Jury it's was almost impossible to win.
@@uikonimi ah yes 14th highest televote score in history, more spotify streams than every other 2023 song combined which is just embarrassing, was voted the best winner of the last decade with 50.000 votes, literally shat on käärijä in every way imaginable after the contest but you’re right he was the true winner
Great reaction! I was waiting for this. I have definitely played this more than 30 times a day. I know all the lyrics now and I don’t even speak Finnish 😂.
That is a lot. Perhaps before the ESC final I was listening to it 10-20 times a day because I watched reaction videos so much. After ESC it has been a few times a day on average due to the same reason. But one of the most incredible things for me is that people learn to sing it, not knowing the language, and some people actually starting to learn Finnish to understand it. It is quite mental that one song can have such an impact on people that they start learning a language hardly nobody speak in the world (around 5-6 million people). Greetings from Finland.

Now that you did Sweden and Finland, maybe you can complete the trilogy with Norway? Alessandra is really amazing, and you for sure will love her voice! It's very powerful!
@@kuinarorona8458 norwegian here, and i really do disagree. Loreen is a much stronger vocalist. her technique is way more advanced than alessandra in my opinion. what loreeen is doing takes a lot of power and technique. but a do think allessandra will get there in time.
Even though this was my personal winner, 2nd place is a win within itself. Finnish is not the most accessible language in the world and songs sent in Finnish have struggled in past years. So it's amazing that an out of the box (literally and figuratively) song like this did as well as it did. I'm very glad his rapping is appreciated when it comes to vocals since that takes ALOT of skill and still vocally demanding.
i've seen a lot of criticism towards his vocals because he sounds so out of breath in the pop part of the song, but i feel like a lot of that noise comes from people who don't know the metal growl and the rap are difficult & require trained skill... he was really consistent & good with both so i'm glad you pointed that out! and it's not like anyone's paying attention to his singing when there's a human centipede on stage 😭😭😭
The song is fun and Kaarja is a great happy guy, but You should also react to Alessandra's "Queen of kings", she was third in people's votes, but overall fifth, because the judges gave her so little points. And to me she was the best 💜
yes, I like it as well, although it does sound like a title song to a childrens hero cartoon ;-) I think, the jury voted for a different performance and also judged the staging a little differently I think. so all in all ok. The most gab in this regard for a almost similar kind of nordic song happened in 2018 (I think). again Norway - spirit in the sky. there was a huge gap 😀
Queen of Kings sounds too much like Running to the Hills from Klara Hammarström. She performed in Melodifestivalen 2022. I only think of it everytime I hear Queen of Kings. Even the Swedish commentator said something like it reminded him of it so I am not the only one.
@@vixikie fair enough. I thought Alessandra's voice was wayyyy stronger, and the song overall. Her persona was really powerful. Didn't get that feeling from Run to the Hills.
Eurovision song contest is not a SINGING contest, it`s a SONG contest. And Käärijä is a rapper, bear that in mind. If you think about some previous winners of Eurovision, it`s not the vocals that are important, it`s the feeling the song makes you feel. Cha Cha Cha makes you feel happy, and that is what we need right now. True winner.💚💚💚
I'm thinking about previous winners, from the televote+jury era, and all of them can actually sing. That's why Käärijä was never going to win with his lackluster vocals. The true winner is the one with the trophy. Spoiler: it's not Käärijä.
@@dav4811 There is no set formula for winning Eurovision, since uniqueness and deviance from the other contestants is of decisive importance. Previous winners have differed in vocal quality, charisma, stage presence, song quality, and performance style. Käärijä's televote score and jury placement were on par with that of a eurovision winner, in fact, he would have won most years with the points he ended up with. No hate towards Loreen, but don't treat Käärijä as an impossible winner when he was only 60 points short.
what about lordi who have very interesting technique or kalush orchestra? singing is not the only technique in music. there is rapping too. and kaarija is a rapper who not supposed to sing. tattoo is good song, loreen in talented singer but kaarija must be the winner.
@@casperix3741 And I would like to add, that iconic Loreen song Euphoria got less points from the juries while it won. And that was a year when there were no real contenders. Now she won by almost 170 points the jury votes the song that got second most jury points. It is like this year's songs were almost twice as worse than on her first try. What? Käärijä could have had won only by getting actually all the twelves from every country, and only then, hardly. It would have depended on so much on how much Loreen would have been getting from the televotes. So it is actually reasonable to ask: "WTF juries this year? What happened?" I do get it that it was much about the vocals and performance this year, but there are other criteria as well by which the songs should be judged. This year almost 60% of the jury members represented pop music (industry), and over 10% of the jury members represented classical music and those were the two most represented areas. Only a couple of jury members came from metal music industry, and none specialized on rapping. So actually, Käärijä broke through with Finnish rap and being the fourth after the juries. That is just amazing because I was waiting for him to get something like 40 points and quite long it seemed like he was not getting points at all. And that would have been another place for a riot: juries giving a song 0 points, and it winning the televotes with a landslide. Is the juries that do not understand music, or is it the public? 60 points behind Loreen this year, is not bad at all. Actually Käärijä's song did something Loreen could have never done. Nothing away from her victory and outstanding performance.
So personally I love both Loreen anc Käärijä and im fully with you on the "its more engaging" vs "great vocals" both singers, obviously amazing but Loreen had more jury votes because she chose a song that absolutely encapsules her entire vocal range, from the low "violins playing ... " to the "i dont care about them all" high notes hence why she obviously outshined in the jury votes. Käärijäs song is more engaging, the Cha Cha Cha is singalongable for everyone and its just a fun song. Heck me as a german i started learning a bit of finish just because of this. Its very clear that he was an absolute champion for the public So if it was for me, i wouldve crowned them both winners and find an area near their borders to celebrate eurovision 2024 together xD
Finland not winning was honestly one of the most disappointing moments of my life 😂😪 My whole family gathered together to cheer Käärijä on… But, Käärijä and everything around it (Käärijä-themed recipes, Helsinki dressing railway station statues up as Käärijä..) has been an unique phenomenom without the win also! I loved this video, greetings from Finland 😏🇫🇮
Thanks Tristan for this video. I love that you give honest opinion and yes think this is more for europeans than other countries but i personally love it not only because i am from Finland also.
this dude got 18 time 12 from televoting ( the hinges place) that is really impressive even i prefer Sweden over him , you should watch the final where the audience screamed cha cha cha
You can tell he's already in to it from the moment the song starts! The only and true winner from this year! I hate how people think this is vocally easier than Tattoo. This is so telling how limited most people are to what is singing or not. Because his technique really is amazing! A translation to this song is basicly: an introverted guy (because apparently that's a Finnish thing) who wants to come out of his shell and has trouble doing so because of all the stereotypes that is expected of man (hence the pina colada reference) It is why he is singing low and introverted at the beginning and at the end he is going for it all the way with his pink dancers.
The lyrics of CHA CHA CHA: After a long hard work week, he goes to the bar and orders pina colada, and after some, his personality changes from stiff to a more relaxed one and pours champagne all over himself and dances cha cha cha on the dance floor.
One element that's missing from this explanation is gender norms. A pina colada is seen as a "girlie" drink, but metal is masculine. This is why the song transitions from metal to more tonal as he breaks out of his box.
You're absolutely right about the vocals, but as many people have already stated, that is only one aspect of Eurovision. The act, the staging, the feel of the song... All of that counts as well. And for Käärijä, who's actually a rapper, this is very impressive. His music and persona are engaging and uplifting and that's why he should have won. The crowd screaming cha cha cha during the presentation of the votes was proof of that 😂
I agree. He is growling with a low voice, rapping and also singing traditionally while running and jumping around the stage. Not anybody could do that.
I can identify myself with Cha Cha Cha more. I work hard during the week, and I need to be relaxed on the weekend. Loreen's emotions are unrelatable to me, a bit depressive. I don't want to love anybody like that, it's unhealthy. :D I think Eurovision should be about the people's choice, meanwhile the Grammies about the experts' choices. Eurovision is about fun and togetherness.
I enjoyed Cha Cha Cha a lot more than Loreen. It was simpley so much fun and Käärijä is such a cool and funny dude! (go watch some interviews with him, he is adoreable!!) :D
I listen to this song every day several times. I love it for work-out, it is a very happy, crazy party song. Cha Cha Cha should have won Eurovision. Loreen gave a quality performance, but I could not listen to that song that much and doesn't make me happier.
Well, Tattoo has the most daily streams, about the same amount as Cha Cha Cha, Queen of Kings, Solo, Unicorn, Due Vite and Évidemment (the 6 acts behind Loreen in terms of streams) COMBINED. People are clearly listening to it, and waaaay more than Cha Cha Cha. Loreen should have won, and did win, Eurovision.
@@dav4811Streams don't always compare well with performance quality though, since it mainly speaks to the repeatability and radio friendliness of a song, while many more things play into a eurovision performance (staging, charisma, choreography, camera angles, live vocals, uniqueness etc). Songs in a non-native language and without generic genres will also be at a disadvantage if you only look at streams. Käärijä's televote score and the fact his performance has been streamed more on TH-cam than Loreen's speaks for him deserving the win, no hate to Loreen though.
@dav4811 Really Tattoo don’t sound that good (not compare to one of my favorite songs like “Euphoria” that’s still on my playlist) Loreen is a great singer, yes been following her all these years - but there were GREAT singers this years whom did fabulous songs (love Blanca Paloma - that power and control of her voice❤) and of course - as a Finn I just think first time in years my country send a song that was perfect! I was rooting for this to be the winner, literally exactly what Eurovision is about! Loreen's performance was forgettable to me, but I can't fault her vocals or the song.
Loreen's peroformance was forgettable? And what performance did Kaarija give? running around like stupid and cant even hold his voice when moving. You people are weird and insane
That was the great thing about her performance imo, it was simple and effective. I feel like a lot of eurovision contestants do these really elaborate performances because their vocals are bad. I would rather have performances like Loreens, than I would have the 'Unicorn' girl.
Forgettable???? Yeah no, her passion and her drive translates to the more than 400 MILLION streams on her song on Spotify. It's a better constructed song than Finlands, that's why it won...

The first time I ever saw this, in the Semis, I fell in love. His vocals weren't his best, in the final. Apparently, the best vocals were during the Jury performance.
you said it yourself: it's the better eurovision song for so many reasons. native language, fun, a lil crazy, unique, not something you'd hear on any radio station, iconic, irraplacable. I do think Tattoo is a nice song - Euphoria was fantastic, and it won rightfully back in the day. the fact that they let a past eurovision winner compete again and then win by the jury votes, taking the opportunity away from someone new who brought everything we love about eurovision - it was honestly tragic watching it unfold. it was so, so sad. it felt like the rest of the competition didn't even matter, cause Loreen was gonna win regardless. she shouldn't have been there :/
It was SOOO sad to see his face when he lost the competition. Seriously, it was so painful to watch that I was glad the others went straight away to bring him some comfort. I would do the same if I was there.
People keep forgetting that Loreen was a second place after peoples vote. It was not like she was at the bottom. And the rules are they way they are regarding peoples votes and jury votes. If only the public decided we would have had some crazy winning songs. The public doesnt vote on only song, performance etc their votes are usually personal. Like they understand the lyrics because its close to their own language, votes on neighbouring countries and so on. So thank god we have a jury that also has a say in actual quality
I just wan't to say that the world is full of amazing singers who can sing perfectly never missing a note, but there is only one like Käärijä. I have seen him performing live and he is truly amazing, the charisma is off the charts. And in my opinion he sang very well and I just love his voice. ❤
I saw Käärijä preform in July. If I have to be honest, that was the time he won over my heart. Because he was so engaging with his audince. Made some really fun jokes and asked questions. And also, I even remembering him taking a lost child up on stage to help him find his parents in the middle of the concert! I don't know, it really was sweet in a way 🙈
As a Finn myself, I feel like your opinion really reflects how most people around here feel about Sweden winning. Is Loreen a great vocalist and performer? Yes, obviously - but her performance didn't scream "Eurovision" the way Cha Cha Cha does, and I really feel like as the people's favorite Käärijä deserved to win. (Though I fully admit I am biased!)
The people's favorite post-contest is clearly Loreen, since Tattoo has been massively outperforming Cha Cha Cha (and all other Eurovision songs) with streams and radio airplay. Tattoo is now the 8th most streamed Eurovision song EVER as well. Cha Cha Cha is nowhere near entering the top 10 lol. Loreen is the actual people's winner, as it turns out ;).
@@dav4811 If you're so convinced that Loreen is clearly better one of the two, why do you feel the need to argue with random strangers in this comment section? You should let her performance speak for itself - if it's as great as you say it is, Loreen doesn't need you defending her :)
The thing is, it's a SONG contest, and the truth is that overall, Sweden song was better constructed and melodically well arrenged, Finland song is good, but it lacks in some technical qualitys, specially on the harmony construction... People will like it regardless (Look Gangnam Style for example, it was not the pinnacle of music but it was a HUGE success), but it doesn't mean that it's technically good. And if a SONG contest should rate technical aspects of songs, them Loreen won
Oaky, I personally wanted Käärijä to win, but I'm happy for Loreen she did an amazing job and she is a phenomenal artist! BUT I have a few things to say to all the people that continue criticizing and hating Käärijä: 1. Eurovision is NOT a "best singer" contest, it's a song contest, it's about the whole package and not just vocals 2. Käärijä is a RAPPER not a vocalist 3. He was literally running around the stage and headbanging like crazy so ofc his vocals at the end are not gonna be flawless and perfect, he's not superhuman.... 4. People need to stop acting as if his vocals at the end were that bad! It was not perfect but it was also not bad 5. For all those that are saying that cha cha cha is a joke entry: just because a song is fun, a bit crazy, in an other language and not a typical pop song it DOES NOT mean that it's a joke entry!!
It's not a vocal contest, but the contestants are required to sing live. So you need to be able to deliver proper vocals. If you know you're going to be running and dancing around, then you need to work on your breathing technique and stamina (like Loreen and Noa did, for example). Sure, Käärijä is a rapper, but his song has a pop part in it - and again - he needs to be able to deliver it. Why else add it? For shits and giggles? As for 4.: his vocals were bad. The only other contenders for worst vocals on finale night were Mae and Luke Black. Compared to the other competitors, Käärijä's vocals were subpar, to say the least. Cha Cha Cha may not have been a joke entry, but it was for sure presented as one, which is what helped it stick out to the general public who look for short-term, one-night, entertainment on a Saturday night in May. I mean, lifting your leg up as if you're a peeing dog? Twirling your tongue around? The centipede? It was gimmick after gimmick to ensure a good televote result (which it did, I'm not denying that - it did, because of the joke-y presentation). It's clear now, post-contest, that Tattoo is the song with the bigger longevity and the more deserving winner.
@@dav4811 1. Käärija sang live so idk why you put that in 2. Like I said Eurovision is not all about vocals, ofc it doesn't mean they're not important, and that's why I also said his vocals at the end of the song weren't perfect, but for you to say that they were that bad is just pure bs! 3. For you to completely disrespect not only cha cha cha as a song but in a way Käärijä himself is disrespectful and disgusting! It was not presented as a joke entry! Just because the song is a fun song, a bit crazy and you don't understand the meaning of the song & Käärijä as an artist it does not give you the right to shit on him like that 4. Not once did I say ANYTHING negative about Loreen or her song...like I literally said that she did amazing and she's a phenomenal artist and person so I don't understand why you're commenting this shit about Käärijä and saying that he was not a deserving winner and thay his song is not memorable when it's not the truth...
@@dav4811 wow you are so childish...like here I am praising Loreen and you have to reply to my comment with random hate about some one I like for no reason at all...why?? It's so unnecessary and it makes you a horrible person
Eurovision is all about connecting people with music and performance and Jere definitely did that. Which is why I think people were little salty about Loreens win on top of her already winning once. This would have been Finlands second ever win and people were rooting for that too, and not just Fins. And that next year will be ABBA's anniversary of their eurovision win and now Sweden gets to host the event is little too convenient imo. The jury in every country just giving top points to sweden was also little weird especially since swedens performance wasnt really that outstanding from many other amazing vocalists in the competition. About this song, you really need to read the lyrics. They might sound silly at first but it has deeper saying in it. And after understanding the lyrics the performance makes more sense too 😆
Personally I think Loreen was amazing, but not spectacular. Without the hype she got from Euphoria, her previous victory, I don't think she would have stood out. On the other hand, I think its kinda sucky that even though Käärijä won the televoting by a landslide, he couldn't overturn the jury votes. Televoting costs money, and people were willing to pay to see him win. Meanwhile Loreen wasn't #1 in televotes in any country. I think Loreen is a megastar and Käärijä has potential to be one, and the voting system just ain't balanced correctly.
You're forgetting that people voted for Loreen too, paid money for her too, and saw their winner pick actually win. You vote with the risk of it not paying off. Loreen still came second with the televote, so you need to stop acting like she was flat-out last, and won solely on jury votes.
Somehow I missed that you did this video at all!!! Can't believe I missed this! :o But yes, Cha Cha Cha isn't really about the vocals. It's worth learning what the song is about. I think it spoke to a lot of people. As a heterosexual guy who likes a lot of more traditionally "feminine" things, and who spent most of my childhood being taught that boys were supposed to be a certain way, I can relate to a song about breaking out of the box. This is represented in music via a transition from the metal start of the song to the more tonal part later. Essentially moving from masculine to more feminine. And then it's just so much fun for audience participation, which is a big winner at Eurovision. Bonus points for him being a super likable person.
Please please listen to Queen of the Kings by Alessandra. She has an amazing voice and is a fantastic performer. Preferably her performance at Melodi Grand Prix (Norway's song selection contest) as her energy is amazing. She was sick for the Grand Final so it she didn't perform at her best.
4:12 That is exactly why this song is such a fan favorite, especially over Swedens song. Eurovision is supposed to be a fun show, displaying all the range and artistic expression the world has to offer. While Loreen was pretty good vocally, her performance was, dare I say it... boring. Having bombass ballroom dancers suddenly do the crab dance to your chorus is hilarious. 5 years from now all I will remember of this years Eurovision is Käärjä and my native contestant Alessandra. The last top contender I remember like this was Israels Netta, who won with Toy. Crazy, zany and colorful stage displays are such a joy to watch.
it doesnt really sit with me, when a very popular former winner comes back... like, of course everybody was losing their minds like "ohhhhh queen loreen... " And the sus part to me is not her winning the jurys vote, but the huge amount of points she got (so basically no one could catch up) and the big gap between her and other countries, like come on... she wasnt the only one, who could sing, no way she was that! outstanding! What about m. mengoni/la zarra/b. palona/alika/gustaph etc pp, so nobody could sing except her? yeah sure..... *abba tourism* here we come
Cha cha cha is almost like an anthem, loreen's tattoo is also good but it doesn't have that vibe,it's just a simple pop song .As a european i prefer risky and ethnic songs,,and also what important to me is all about stage and performance. Many people think just like me that's why he won the televote with a huge gap and that's why people in the arena was chanting cha cha cha the whole time.
Yes Cha cha cha was way more fun and ok the song from Sweden was beautiful but I've already forgot the name of the song I think it shows How much cha cha cha was original and unforgetable.
some of our favourite esc winner only won because of jury votes, like duncan laurence's arcade... the public votes aren't always "right", in my opinion (and the jury isn't the only one voting strategically either, fyi), and in the end i never take it as seriously as so many have this year... though, i also think finland should've won, sweden was up there as well, loreen did good~. c:
Was Loreen objectively a stronger vocalist than Käärijä? Yes. But its a SONG competition, not a vocal ability competition, and Sweden's song was just a stock standard clean and polished ballad (and VERY reminiscent of the old song she already won with). No one had EVER done what Käärijä did at ESC before, it was completely unique, it was crazy, it was party, it was forever memorable. If Sweden had sent that song with anyone other than Loreen singing it, they wouldn't have won. Finland had the better song, a more charismatic performer, and the more hype performance. Loreen just happens to be graced by god in terms of vocal ability and saved what was otherwise an utterly unmemorable ballad into something great.
Speaking as a fellow American , I appreciate your Eurovision reactions. Would love to get your reaction to Belgium's Gustaph performing Because Of You. #PrideMonth #12PointsFromPittsburgh [PS: anyone interested in what happened at the 2014 Eurovision after Russia passed anti-gay legislation should check out Conchita Wurst's winning entry Rise Like a Phoenix (Austria).]
Cha Cha Cha was the only song that got the audience fired up If you watch the course in the rehearsals you will NOTICE HOW MUCH the audience was screaming it And as a somewhat German I consider EV as more of a performance contest hence why I and many people believe that he got robbed the win + that was loreen's second EV entery and she won the one before that is why we believe that it was unfair because she had a winning fan base from the beginning
Then why didn't Lena win in 2011? Or Alexander in 2018? Stop making excuses, please. Loreen wasn't that big of a name (now she absolutely is, because of her iconic two-time winner status), so you're overinflating the size of her fandom pre-contest. Loreen gave a never-seen performance, with a heavy platform hanging above her head... It was the most impressive package of the night and that's why she won. Käärijä wasn't robbed of the win, because it wasn't his win to begin with.
@@dav4811 oh com'on The moment loreen was announced a contestant everyone immediately knew she was going to win because 1. Euphoria 2. Previous winner 3. ABBA's 50th anniversary Regarding the performance It looked impressive ON CAMERA sure but everyone who was there agrees that nobody was able to hear or see her And Eurovision is a performance contest and sorry not sorry but her performance can't in any way shape or form compete with the others Even Poland had a better engaging performance and Poland was shit this year

I DO care a lot about who wins. I am not sure Loreen was an undeserved winner, she did came second in the public votes. BUT the amount of points gives by the juries were not deserved. There were other good vocals in this contest as well (Spain, Italy etc). But every year the juries seems to be bias towards good, but mainstream pop-songs in english. And the country that does this best (in the ESC) is Sweden. I guess that is why the juries seems to have an extra bias towards the Swedish entries - year after year. The juries needs to be more open to non-pop, non-english, non-commercial entries as well. In my book Sweden might be the deserved and at least expected jury winner - but the fact that she won with such a landslide in a pretty good year is beyond my understanding. The juries need to be more diverse, more people in each jury - and representing more genres that pop.
He is a rapper and a very good rspper, he has actually an amazing voice. This song is actually very difficult to sing vocally and he is also constally moving around.
Well you said Finland was more engaging to watch but Sweden had better vocals. That’s why Finland won the televote and Sweden won the jury. Loreen came 2nd in the televote so she still did well in that vote as well as jury so that’s why she won. Finland sent a song that not very jury friendly but still came 4th in the jury so I don’t know why people are complaining when a lot of people thought Finland wouldn’t even be top 10 with the jury. Anyways Loreen has had the most success after Eurovision out of all the acts this year by far. And it’s fair for a winner to compete again. Many winners have come back and nearly all of them lost when they returned except two: Loreen and Johnny Logan
Lets be real, he was extremely lucky to get that 2nd spot to be honest - 150 points were way more than everyone expected (comparing to previous years) Sweden the rightful winner and I'm so happy for her success even now after the show.
This was a million times better than the winner if you ask me. Only thing that Loreen had over Kaarija was the vocals but she lost in all other aspects. Finland received 376 points from the public vote, the 2nd most of all time behind Ukraine last year (a lot of them were pity votes let's be real) vs Sweden that only got 243. It was indeed a jury win.
Uhm, Sweden was second with the televote. It was not a jury win, because if Israel's and Sweden's televote scores were swapped, Sweden would have lost by 1 point. You need to come to terms with the fact that the people also liked Tattoo a lot, and that's why Loreen was able to pull off this win. Stay mad and tasteless!
@@dav4811 People liked Sweden but at the same time the televote shows that it was by far from 1st the 2nd most loved act. It was not even close to Finland. I have come to terms that with the current system Sweden won. That doesn't mean it was the best song. People's opinion matters more than some random jurors. If it was close in the televote I wouldn't say that but the gap was large.
@@dav4811 There's no winner that can win only by juries there has to be some televote help too. But margins matter. She was 2nd by far. The difference between 1st and 2nd in the televote was chaotic. The outcry was expected. But let's move on I guess...
We all loved it so much, because its not that perfect, but super catchy and funny. And in my opinion loreen was not THAT great. It was lame and boring.
As a Finn, I would like to open up a little about the background of this song and why the singer became so popular (at least from my perspective). The song practically sings about how a man goes to a bar and drinks until the "icy outer shell is destroyed". We Finns are known as very friendly, but introverted people. Alcohol is a strong part of our culture and I myself would describe it as a Finnish "medicine", with which we turn ourselves into social butterflies, from wall roses to kings and queens of the dance floor. Even though Käärijä and his music doesn't meet my preferences, I completely understand why Cha Cha Cha got such huge attention and popularity both in the people and in the media. In addition to the melody, the singer's role is also important to me in music, and Käärijä's vocal side does not falter. However, from the point of view of Eurovision, Cha Cha Cha was actually the perfect choice: it is an entertaining, self-ironic and crowd-possessing entity. In addition to that, Käärijä himself is a very genuine person, who with his honesty in the media has certainly gained even more supporters. So, I agree, the wrong country won. What makes this even more unfair is that Sweden has won Eurovision before (in 2012) with Loreen as well. Hopefully the Eurovision rules will change and the audience's votes would have a clearer meaning in terms of the win, because Käärijä was the overwhelming favorite of the audience and still Loreen won. And of course, this also raises the question of whether the victory was even genuine from the judges end, but that's a story of its own...
The right country won, sweetie, don't get it twisted. Sweden won and you can forever stay mad, while your little green man fades into irrelevancy with his arrogant demeanor and behavior post-contest. Loreen still came second with the televote, and is outperforming Cha Cha Cha massively in terms of streams and radio exposure. She was the actual people's winner, as it turns out now. Stop acting like she came last with the public lol. Cope!
@@dav4811 -You sound as if you were answering the same person who annoyed you earlier, it is not. Loreen won the contest, I as a Finn must accept it. You should not disparage Käärijä as he does not disparage Loreen but says he loves her. I am at a loss as to what you mean with "arrogant demeanor", I have never seen Jere arrogant. You should give him the same deference as I and Käärijä give Loreen. It is not he who suggests she did not win. Irrelevancy? Certainly not in his native Finland. Finland is more important to him than Eurovision. Peace!
As a finn myself, at first I thought cha cha cha was a bit weird tbh. But the more you listen to it, the more you like it, and it's currently like my favorite. I guess you just hear it better the more you listen. And this song is exactly what Eurovision is for me, this energy, this vibe, the whole crowd yelling "cha cha cha" and everything. Even tho sweden was amazing too, I will forever be mad about sweden's win, because Loreen was already a known singer, Käärijä rose to fame in a crazy short time and won people's hearts with this catchy performance
Great reaction as always~ definitely more songs from this year that you could do~ Norway, Australia, Czechia, and Slovenia off the top of my head for sure sure~
Eurovision is not about vocals. Its about the song. And if it was purely about vocals, loreen wouldnt have won 😅 spain for example was so damn impressive and beautiful as were many other performances.
The thing is.. people wanted this to win because it was different. That's it. But try listening to and watch this 10 times in a row and see how you feel. If we just go by, "OKAY SO YOU WILL ONLY SEE AND HEAR THIS ONCE!" Then maybe Finland should have won, but as like..a song and the performance vocally? No way.
Depends on what you listen to normally I guess. I love Rammstein and my first thought was that Cha Cha Cha sounds like Tatto by Rammstein. That's why I love it haha
Did you expect Loreen to come back with a rap song? Rock? Dance bop? That's literally her main style, and it payed off with Euphoria - so obviously, she'd want a song from an adjacent genre...
@@dav4811 not at all. Off course she'll sing in her style. But the actual melody is too similar to other songs like The winner takes it all by ABBA or the song by the Ukranian singer Mika Newton
The only problem that I have with Tattoo, is that it’s so generic. Angels crying, violins playing, don’t care about the pain, crying in the rain… who self respecting writer thinks that is anything else than going from where the fence is the lowest? In this ai-infested time the whole song sounds like you write a prompt asking for Swedish Eurovision song and this is what computer would give you. I've been a Eurovision fan since my teens in the 90s, and it doesn't feel like that long ago that countries had to make a song in their native language (turns out the language rule applied from 1977 to 1998). It adds a lot of character showcasing how each language plays out in music.

It's worth noting that Eurovision is not singing contest, but SONG contest. And in this category, Käärija really captured the audience the most.
It's also true that to many Europeans it's a festival rather than a contest, and it's a mistake to get too stressed who actually won the glass trophy that is the only prize on offer.
but tattoo has more streams on spotify so im not really sure you can make the argument that he has the SONG, it´s more like he has a performance.

@@MVUK358 "The argument of 'the people prefer Cha Cha Cha' really falls apart"
Too bad no one had, say, a vote to determine who the people liked the most, before the attention boost of winning, and without treating listens from people who would listen to an artist regardless because they are already established, as if those were themselves votes of preferance.

But it was my favourite because it had a vibe nothing else this year really had. I loved it.
I do agree that Alika/Blanca were the best vocalist of the night. However, the juries also take consideration into other aspects of the performance.
1-Vocal capacity of the artist(s)
2-Performance on stage.
3-Composition and originality of the song.
4-Overall impression of the act.

Käärijä could have had won only by getting actually all the twelves from every country, and only then, hardly. It would have depended on so much on how much Loreen would have been getting from the televotes. So it is actually reasonable to ask: "WTF juries this year? What happened?"
I do get it that it was much about the vocals and performance this year, but there are other criteria as well by which the songs should be judged.
@@tommilaitinen5555 Käärijäs song actually united europe by music!
So personally
I love both Loreen anc Käärijä and im fully with you on the "its more engaging" vs "great vocals"
both singers, obviously amazing but Loreen had more jury votes because she chose a song that absolutely encapsules her entire vocal range, from the low "violins playing ... " to the "i dont care about them all" high notes hence why she obviously outshined in the jury votes.
Käärijäs song is more engaging, the Cha Cha Cha is singalongable for everyone and its just a fun song. Heck me as a german i started learning a bit of finish just because of this. Its very clear that he was an absolute champion for the public
So if it was for me, i wouldve crowned them both winners and find an area near their borders to celebrate eurovision 2024 together xD
that's a great solution ahah
Tornio-Haparanda supremacy😂
Now THAT would have been an amazing solution for the whole drama hahahah
This song gets SO much better once you know what the lyrics mean, and the whole performance makes so much sense, and I appreciate it more every day.
My European friends I studied abroad with told me this song represents everything Eurovision is about
I start my morning listening to CHA CHA CHA
this dude got 18 time 12 from televoting ( the hinges place) that is really impressive even i prefer Sweden over him , you should watch the final where the audience screamed cha cha cha
It was crazy!
Second highest televote total in Eurovision history
Sweden didn't even get any 12 points from the televoting and hardly 10 points as well.
@@oldvlognewtricks yes second with Salvador Sobral and he won!
@@MsMeyara And yet, Loreen still came second with the public. It's about the overall sum, not the number of 12 points.
You can tell he's already in to it from the moment the song starts! The only and true winner from this year! I hate how people think this is vocally easier than Tattoo. This is so telling how limited most people are to what is singing or not. Because his technique really is amazing!
A translation to this song is basicly:
an introverted guy (because apparently that's a Finnish thing) who wants to come out of his shell and has trouble doing so because of all the stereotypes that is expected of man (hence the pina colada reference) It is why he is singing low and introverted at the beginning and at the end he is going for it all the way with his pink dancers.
@@d_dave7200 Interesting thoughts! I like it. :)
The crowd screaming cha cha cha during the presentation of the votes was proof of that 😂
I think Blanca from Spain had the best vocals this year by far, but this song from Finland was amazing
+1
What about Switzerland?
Three different styles of singing and still doing good in all of them. Käärijä sure is a great vocalist imo.
Good? Please check your ears...
I agree. He is growling with a low voice, rapping and also singing traditionally while running and jumping around the stage. Not anybody could do that.
@@sarzik2896 He's singing, yes. But he's not singing well. Anybody could actually do that, because missing the notes doesn't require any talent.
@@dav4811 Well he is basically a rapper, and believe it or not that takes some serious skills.
United by music💚💚💚💚Even ppl not speaking Finnish was singing along😂😂😂 That’s for me is Europe United by Music❤💚
@@casperix3741 you thinking that youtube is more importany than official charts and performances all over Europe, on different shows, is absolutely laughable. Keep thinking that Käärijä is more successful. He just isn't and that's a fact. Loreen has the trophy xxx.

I've seen Käärijä live twice after Eurovision and his vocals and personality are so much more enticing irl 🥺
I was rooting for this to be the winner, literally exactly what Eurovision is about! Loreen's performance was forgettable to me, but I can't fault her vocals or the song.
Tbf, to me Loreens performance was not forgettable at all. It brought back some childhood nightmares after i watched 'Giger's Alien' way too young.
@@vladasilva bla bla, you guys always bring the irrelevant argument about streams 🤡💀 enlish song vs finnish song, ESC winner vs nobody, what do you even expect 😂 the most stvpid argument about better song... Käärijä is still people's winner (won public vote) with ease.
I do think Tattoo is a nice song - Euphoria was fantastic, and it won rightfully back in the day. the fact that they let a past eurovision winner compete again and then win by the jury votes, taking the opportunity away from someone new who brought everything we love about eurovision - it was honestly tragic watching it unfold. it was so, so sad. it felt like the rest of the competition didn't even matter, cause Loreen was gonna win regardless. she shouldn't have been there :/
I agree, yet the juries always vote for the English songs that sounds like any other song on the radio... it's just boring.
its a mess of a song.
It was SOOO sad to see his face when he lost the competition. Seriously, it was so painful to watch that I was glad the others went straight away to bring him some comfort. I would do the same if I was there.
I became so obsessed with this strange funky song
@@Massuli she doesn't. I'm just making sure delusional people know the truth xxx.
BUT I have a few things to say to all the people that continue criticizing and hating Käärijä:
1. Eurovision is NOT a "best singer" contest, it's a song contest, it's about the whole package and not just vocals
2. Käärijä is a RAPPER not a vocalist
3. He was literally running around the stage and headbanging like crazy so ofc his vocals at the end are not gonna be flawless and perfect, he's not superhuman....
4. People need to stop acting as if his vocals at the end were that bad! It was not perfect but it was also not bad
5. For all those that are saying that cha cha cha is a joke entry: just because a song is fun, a bit crazy, in an other language and not a typical pop song it DOES NOT mean that it's a joke entry!!
Also have you heard his performance in the show for the juries? He actually maintained much better breath support in that one
Käärija sang live so idk why you put that in
Just because the song is a fun song, a bit crazy and you don't understand the meaning of the song & Käärijä as an artist it does not give you the right to shit on him like that
4. Not once did I say ANYTHING negative about Loreen or her song...like I literally said that she did amazing and she's a phenomenal artist and person so I don't understand why you're commenting this shit about Käärijä and saying that he was not a deserving winner and thay his song is not memorable when it's not the truth...

I agree with every word of your comment hahahah I loved them both, and my third place went for Portugal hahaha
Omg I’m from Finland! I’ve been a subscriber of yours for years, this is an awesome way of two of my worlds colliding!!!
I am still glad, there is a combo of public and jury and not just one group of voters.
Fun fact. Cha cha cha got 4 mil streams this week and tattoo got 14 mil streams this week.
Might it have something to do with the fact that Cha cha cha cannot be seen only be heard. It is after all important visually.
The real winner with a totally unique entry!
it doesnt really sit with me, when a very popular former winner comes back... like, of course everybody was losing their minds like "ohhhhh queen loreen... *abba tourism* here we come
Cha cha cha is very much in the spirit of Eurovision. Engaging, fun, easy to remember and follow. That's why many liked it. Visually AMAZING.
Yes Cha cha cha was way more fun and ok the song from Sweden was beautiful but I've already forgot the name of the song I think it shows How much cha cha cha was original and unforgetable.
i mean that´s fine but it´s certainly an unpopular opinion that tattoo has a forgetable song since it´s getting recordbreaking streaming numbers.
some of our favourite esc winner only won because of jury votes, like duncan laurence's arcade... the public votes aren't always "right", in my opinion (and the jury isn't the only one voting strategically either, fyi), and in the end i never take it as seriously as so many have this year... though, i also think finland should've won, sweden was up there as well, loreen did good~. c:
I am here in 2024 and still obsessed with Cha Cha Cha !!!!
I love this song and i love the winner. Also LOVED Norway. She was awesome, you watch her too
Was Loreen objectively a stronger vocalist than Käärijä?
Eurovision never had a voting where the whole crowd made party for one song.
It was so amazing how much love he and the song got.
It's called eurovision SONG contest for a reason
Speaking as a fellow American , I appreciate your Eurovision reactions. There won't be another Käärijä in 10+ years. Unless the jury system changes it's all downhill from here.
Yes, I was waiting for this! I love this song. I understand why Sweden won, but for me Finland was the winner.
Cha Cha Cha was the only song that got the audience fired up
If you watch the course in the rehearsals you will NOTICE HOW
MUCH the audience was screaming it
And as a somewhat German I consider EV as more of a performance contest hence why I and many people believe that he got robbed the win
+ that was loreen's second EV entery and she won the one before that is why we believe that it was unfair because she had a winning fan base from the beginning

Thank you. ❤️ I'm from Finland and I just love Käärijä.
Sweden deserved it way more obviously but this performance was fun.
He is a rapper and a very good rspper, he has actually an amazing voice. This song is actually very difficult to sing vocally and he is also constally moving around.
You should listen to Käärijäs other songs. Dope! ( i am Swedish, but going to Finland twice this summe bc of him)
Well you said Finland was more engaging to watch but Sweden had better vocals.
I think people forget that this is a SONG contenst and not only singing contest😅 He won the crowd and is the winner in our hearts❤

Lets be real, he was extremely lucky to get that 2nd spot to be honest - 150 points were way more than everyone expected (comparing to previous years)
Sweden the rightful winner and I'm so happy for her success even now after the show.
Estonia had really good vocals this year. It is worth to listen to :)

And if it was purely about vocals, loreen wouldnt have won 😅 spain for example was so damn impressive and beautiful as were many other performances.
exactly and we can see which song has been charting the highest and its not the drink alcohol song
bich WHAT? loreen‘s vocals are amazing, there are many performances for semi finals, finals etc. and she had some pretty good ones.
No way.
I've never heard crowd react like that ever EVER... and that's only 43yr experience. 100% non judge winner.
"Tuhota " means destroy. He said it is time to destroy this facade.
Loreen is amazing but i still dont think she should have won. The song is too similar to other songs. Can yoy react to Israel next? 💜💜💜💜
Depends on what you listen to normally I guess. I love Rammstein and my first thought was that Cha Cha Cha sounds like Tatto by Rammstein. That's why I love it haha
@@Marinaswe never thought about it but yes, the vibe is similar
Loreen as a singer and performer of course is amazing, I think she would have deserved better song.
I had no doubt Loreen will win but Cha cha cha is a lot more fun and exciting, the crowd went absolutely crazy. With Tattoo? Meh. Not so much.
Just do the Cha Cha Cha!
I would love for you to react to Italy's entry, Marco Mengoni! He is a GREAT vocalist and performer, you'll see x
Loreen is better vocally, he has admitted that himself, but This is So much more entertaining, engaging, and "Eurovision ". No other entry has made me smile as much as this one ! And the song stays in your head ! My Winner 👑
1:27 that's it. That's the whole Eurovision summed up
Who wants an euphoria reactionnnnnnnnn?? (first time winning eurovision song loreen)
Sweden was definitely the most deserved winner!! Thank you Tristan for yet a competent analysis!
Finland had an awesome song, a bit Rammstein and Im a big fan of Rammstein but I still feel like Loreen is the winner. To our neighbor country we are both winners! ♥
