This was a meal my family and I had at Banzaan Fresh Food Night Market in Patong in Phuket Thailand. Banzaan Night Market is open every night from 5pm till 11pm and its Google Maps coordinates are: goo.gl/maps/jF...
The meal we had in the video cost 1,980 baht for the seafood and drinks.
The market is not far from Junceylon Shopping Mall and the Thai food there is delicious! At this market you can find loads of Thai street food, authentic Thai cuisine and mountains of seafood! The seafood is sold by the kilogram and the vendors will cook the food fresh for you. The seafood we bought in the video cost 1,900 baht. Behind each of the street food stands is a restaurant area where you can sit and eat. It's a lot of fun and a great night out in Patong and the staff seem very friendly. All the food we have ever eaten at that market has been delicious!

I finally made it to Thailand last summer! It was amazing and I went to this market. I had quite a few delicious things and returned many times. I stayed at the Alexander Hotel around the corner. Can't wait to go back to Thailand. Also tried green curry in Phuket town and it was made with delicious Thai Eggplant in it.
I'm from the Caribbean..... so seafood is my LOVE.... So seeing all those different type of seafood made me want to jump on a plane lol .... I would enjoy that night market.... Next thing i love is the fact you can buy your seafood raw and get it cook right in the back and eat it without going far ..... Great stuff......

Absolutely true what you say about the dipping sauces (around the 18:00 mark). My mouth literally watered when I saw the dip, not the food!

Thanks Gina! Not all the markets we feature are close to home. This one is about 2 and a half hours from home when there's no traffic. Last week's market is about the same distance from home, but 2 hours north from this market. It depends exactly where we are, some of the markets are close to home, others aren't. But we do have lots of markets near home, and heaps of great food to choose from :)

Hi Darren. Pity I didn't check out that market when I was in Patong. Noticed all Thai stall holders spoke English as you'd expect in tourist central. You're as bad as me wanting to pay the right price for food. Worth the effort with seafood which can set you back. Have a great Xmas. It's stinking hot in Cairns. Thai weather would be a relief.
Yes, there are plenty of food choices at that market. Not so many Thai vendors though, most of the staff there are Burmese. Hope you have a great Xmas too Doug. Yes, we're certainly enjoying winter ... going for a chilly 34C today here :)

Keep doing what you’re doing Darren you should have at least 100k subscribers by now. You have moved up the ranks in my book. Mark Weins and you are my go to food shows now. Food ranger is ok but comes across pretentious and somewhat goofy a lot. You are straight to the point. Great shots of the people in the market and the food of course. Keep up the good work!
Darren, why do you ask for your mantis shrimp more alive? my partner and i are wondering, and trying to remember if our dinner was actively live before it got cooked and served. 😊 we are coming back in 11 weeks! Cant wait.
I explained that in the video - A chef told me that they need to be alive because mantis shrimps degrade very quickly once they're dead. His restaurant is probably the best seafood restaurant I've ever eaten at (Rim Lay Seafood in Nakhon Si Thammarat) and he told me for the best mantis shrimp experience use the big ones and they need to be alive prior to being prepared.

I see they still using old double stack the strainer to add weight. I was surprised one night when I went one night to see how much these things weigh. Bought a lobster and then looked back at the scale. It was almost 426 grams just from the strainers.

@@darrenb3 1900 Baht is like AUD $80. For all that fresh seafood it's cheap. I suppose haggling between the sellers is the way to go.
Yes, you certainly wouldn't get as much seafood for the same money in Aus. At touristy markets like this one haggling is expected and factored into the price, unless the price is displayed, in which case haggling usually won't get you anywhere.

Cheers mate. Patong (where this video was filmed) is one of the most expensive places in Thailand. Having said that we got a 900 gram crayfish cooked for $22.67 Australian ... that's a pretty good price in my humble opinion.

Foreign like me looking around each seafood vendors seem like expensive. I think I prepare to go to restaurant. But, Its a good idea of your by saying cheapest to the other market...if they knew your are tourist they charge you more. Is that make any different if you can speak their language Darren?? 🤔
At touristy markets like this one haggling is expected and factored into the price. I had seen mantis shrimps for the price I said at a market down the road the night before, which is why I said that. Their language is Burmese, many of the people at this market are not Thai. I don't know if it would help if you speak Burmese, I don't think so. Probably having good haggling skills would help more.
I just left and 800 baht for a large lobster is cheap and you will not get that price in the US.
