NIGHTMARE [Ranger Theme]

- My interpretation of what would be Ranger's (Quake Champions) theme song! I was kind of envisioning how fighting game characters have their tracks that play while I made this. With Ranger originating from Quake 1, I knew it's soundtrack needed a heavy presence in this one. I threw in references to the tracks Quake Theme, Aftermath, Hall of Souls, and Life. Going with the sort of Gothic theme that Q1 had, throwing in a little pipe organ wouldn't hurt either as the Volkerh mapset utilizes it as well.
A good chunk of the Q1 OST is in the key of D, and deviating from that ended up sounding wrong, so in order to get my guitars as low as I wanted them to... I didn't use them. The heavy parts are actually a bass guitar using electric guitar processing. In my mind, this track is my impression of Sonic Mayhem and Mick Gordon interpreting Trent Reznor's classic Quake OST.
Ranger has a tragic story, as he was ripped from his family and tossed into the nightmarish world of Quake from which he can't seem to awaken. I wanted to reflect this in the somber tone of the chorus in this track (and inadvertently ended up giving a subtle nod to the Max Payne theme). Part of me wanted this song to end on a looping fade out to sort of reflect him being trapped in hell.

@@rikybj0276 well, on the top left there is an icon with book (or piece of paper, I dont remember) and when you click on it, you will see sections of champions, gods and I guess QC lore. If you want to find a Ranger lore, just click on champions sections and choose a character which you want. Not all scrolls are availbe. If you want to collect all scrolls for each champion, you will need to spent lots of gems on.... upgrading (~80 I think)? Except scrolls, you can collect paints, armors.... only cosmetics + lore artifact for each champion (its the same as scroll but with model to see for example: Daisy's foot).

Imagine a single player mode where every level you play as a different champion, each of them having their own story
Most of them already have their own series haha but I agree, those that aren't featured in campaigns should absolutely have their own. I would love a Doom/Wolf style single player Quake reboot, as long as it retains the original Quake 1 style of art design.
They all do have their own story though ;)

if ID would ever want to make Quake a story-mode franchise again (which is unlikely, since Wolfenstein is story oriented franchise at the moment) i would have wanted next Quake chapter to be something that creates link between all previous Quake parts, something that unites continuation of Ranger's story and "Strogg vs. Humankind" story.
Mokugaia I know there's a connection between the crates from Q1 and Q2 but there's no in-between story to help us.
I like the heavy distortion on the original Quake theme. It feels like it's been degraded by the passing of twenty years.

Ranger killed the unkillable. He isn't a monster. He's a being that even Elder Gods should be rightfully terrified of.
People should start badgering Bethesda about giving the original Quake game the DOOM treatment.
Sure, Quake Champions is a reboot of Quake III Arena, but I'm sure people would LOVE to see Quake or Quake II get the DOOM treatment.

I agree 1000% and would easily pay $60 for the PC version of a Quake reboot as well as another $60 for a Switch port.
Replace glory kills with some sort of head shot mechanic, force the player to become more accurate through the campaign and make the game even faster paced.

The way they blended the game play with that gloomy world (not even Doom is that dark), it has so much potential. The other day I saw this Mod of classic Quake using the Doom 3 engine; th-cam.com/video/cmAvyk8S_V4/w-d-xo.html , it fucking rocks man and it's just a mod, just imagine what they could do with a Doom wise production.

When the classic, Quake theme yelling came in around the middle, I couldn't help but smile. This is fucking brilliant.
Even before reading the description I knew that the tune was from Q1, now that's the mark of a good soundtrack. If they are ever going to make a new singleplayer Quake I would want you to make the OST.

Quake 2? Yeah, that I can see; it was more fast pace and aggressive. Quake 1 was far more darker and otherworldly. Even now I think Reznor's soundtrack stands while Sonic Youth's is a bit dated.

The diehard Quake 1 fans are tired of seeing Quake 3 Arena regurgitated 20 different ways. We want Ranger, we want a dark Lovecraftian world full of muddy colors and strange elder gods and nerve-nibbling atmosphere, and we want a single-player campaign that isn't a COD ripoff.

Personally, this is my favorite of the character themes. There's something about the Quake 1 soundtrack that makes it interesting to listen to. Also love Zlive's channel music and the QC:DE soundtrack. I'm excited to see what Quake/Doom mix will come up with Doom Slayer.

You took something already legendary, put it on a table, deconstructed it to its bare components, brought more to the table and assembled something otherworldly that stays true to its original form yet adds layers and texture that made this a total ear gasm to listen to. Like an artist retouching a masterpiece and doing an artful work of love. 10/10. Never thought I'd hear a remake of this caliber. Would love to hear it in an official ID project if they ever brought Quake back to its lovecraftian roots.

Wow... That was... an experience... i'm in tears and covered in sweat! This. IS. Quakes' remastered theme. You encapsulated every nuance of the originals' atmosphere, perfectly! The terror, the hopelessness, the pacing! The brutality! THE FUCKING ORGAN! (Dammit, that's was fucking great!) The Max Payne cord didn't distract. At all. It was an excellent choice. Max Payne's theme is tragic as it is. It really added to the already oozing atmosphere.
Truly. The wings of this masterful piece carried me to valhalla. I. LOVE. This track. So much! Thank you.

Damn this is really good. Iv been on a id software binge lately, and i would love a new dark fantasy fps/rpg with swords and sorcery so much. Quake is a really wierd but 90's product in terms of setting. Its got that "hooah, guns! Awesome to the max!" and then the obvious Sandy Petersen influence of wanting lovecraftian mystery and grimnes. A shame that they ditched fantasy ideas but i guess it's a taste and markets matter.

I hope Quake champions will one day add a small mini campaign that you can buy for each champion.
@@RoadskiN That's what I want but for all characters maybe an origin story mission for all champions where you unlock lore scrolls for completing challenges in the levels.
Quake 1 needs a squeal or remake, I really want to a Deathknight mission to show the Pagans stuff from Quake 1 but in a different perspective too
