Too bad it ended suddenly, due to Higuchi's chronic overwork, perfectionism and consequent lateness. Hibari-kun is one of my fave anime from any year, thanks to endearing characters, ribald humour and often superb animation. Thanks for uploading this toon tune!

I would love to see a new Hibari Kun series but then again.... The message would probably be changed so much it's unrecognisable to the charm-filled original....
@@Butterstix2014 It even got a proper finale when they re-released it. The mangaka realized he never finished it, so he found an old storyboard and used it as the ending to avoid leaving it feeling like it just stopped
A remake would be fun but only if they respect the vibe of the original. That being, part of what makes Hibari-kun appealing I feel is that mix of cartoony gag comedy and genuinely heartfelt moments or storytelling. Lots of remakes or reboots these days kinda miss that mark (either by making the visuals and tone too rigid and "serious/proper" or, by leaning too hard into the comedy and becoming kind of empty). At least personally, for as dated as some aspects of the series are, seeing a fun gag manga treat it's trans lead (and her relationships) with genuine respect was the core draw. I've yet to see anything like it before or since.
I say it all the time. It was Japan who started all this pride, trans, and gender weirdness. They did this back in 1983 when all the other countries were either trying to heal homoxesuals with Heather Locklear or dancing with them in Blue Oyster. But Japanese do it only because it´s funny and perverted (this is country where 10-years old anime girls have breasts and serve as an objects of fanservice, and where the most popular film of the year after E.T. was Cannibal Holocaust). North America and Western Europe took it seriously! Please, no reboot. This was done as a crazy comedy (even crazier than Takahashi) and because of that it´s so much fun. But reboot would be nothing more than gender propaganda.

This show needs a reboot.

No. Lest normies and tourists pollute it even more.
@@Erybadynotat Shut up, more people need to know this anime!

No. Too many "uwu they/them" people have ruined this show merely by knowing about it.

I wouldn't go that far but it is definitely really great for the time.
I love this anime, it's too much fun.
This got a very Urusei Yatsura vibe to it!
Hibari-chan is so kawaii.

@@superplushtiman7ti075 maybe not! I mean, you never know… also, apparently the manga still went on after the anime ended.

This is the theme song of an animation that was broadcast in Japan in the 1980s.
How do you know this animation?

You had gay movies and underground culture in 70s usa too, it was just more controversial because of religion.
